Piper is a 5 year old Pomeranian girl who weighs about 16lbs. Piper is eager to bond with one person and follows her foster mom everywhere. Piper was used for breeding and has never known life as a loved pet. She is very unsure of leashes and taking walks may not be her cup of tea for quite a while. She loves watching people cook, or do anything at all and will happily rest nearby on the floor or couch. At this time she is fearful of being left outside but when accompanied by a person she gets the idea of pottying outside. In her foster home she has access to potty pads which she will also use since this is such a big life transition. She would thrive in a home were the people are not gone for long periods of time. She is large/small dog, cat, man and older respectful child friendly, but it should be noted that kids will want to pet her and she is still fearful of that and strangers. Piper likes being carried and sleeping with a human. She can be quite vocal if crated, which can require patience but will likely change as she acclimates to being a pet. Even though she can be fearful, she has never nipped and shows a laid back and happy personality. Due to the neglect, her fur was so matted that she was shaved but in a couple of months her full beautiful Pomeranian hairdo will return. She is very patient while having her fur or nails groomed. Once she masters the leash and crate she will be a loving and devoted companion, and will accompany her person everywhere in the house and yard. Due to her lack of leash skills a securely fenced yard is a must, and another dog in the home would help her trust and learn to be a pet. She's still learning what it means to be part of a family, but her bright eyes and happy tail wags show she's full of hope and ready to find her perfect home. Penny's safe space is her crate — it's her cozy retreat where she feels secure. She sleeps peacefully there at night, and during the day, she likes to relax inside with the door open. Occasionally, Penny will venture out to explore her surroundings or head outside for some fresh air. As she gets more comfortable she will get more confident. While Penny isn’t yet ready to curl up beside you on the couch, you can see in her eyes that she’s dreaming of the day when she feels brave enough to try. Patience, soft words, and gentle head rubs are the keys to her heart. Penny loves spending time outdoors, so a securely fenced yard is essential to keep her safe and happy. Only complete & qualified applications will be considered or contacted for adoptions. We are a 100% foster-based rescue. Applications can be found here on our website. We do not allow shipping & do not transport. You must live within 350 miles from Maryville, IL & able to drive for a meet & greet. Dottie is a sweet girl just waiting for the right forever home. She came from a life of breeding, so everything has been new for her, but she is doing well adjusting. She is nervous and shy until she gets settled in which can take several weeks so she will need a patient home. Because of her being timid, she needs a calm somewhat quite home. Older, respectful children will be fine with Dottie. Dottie loves playing with the other four-legged friends. A home with another dog of Dottie's size is required. Dottie looks to her foster canine siblings to learn commands & feel safe. We are happy to say that she responds rather jubilantly & has fun playing. Her favorite thing in the whole wide world is to zoom all over the yard, run & run & run & run! At this time, Dottie is still not comfortable on a harness and leash. For her safety, you must have a secure physically fenced yard. Any fence with gaps will need to be reinforced around the bottom area so Dottie is not able to get through the spacing. Additionally, we will make sure the adopting family has a plan to prevent any door-dashing. We have a lot of experience in this, & we can make easy recommendations to help keep Dottie safe. Her forever home will need time to teach her that she is safe. In her foster home she has shown this is possible, time & patience is key. Dottie plays & runs around like a happy dog should. She will even lay on her back & expose her belly while playing! You can find FAQ on our website regarding adoption.
