Story
Meet Romeo! Romeo is a 5-year-old Pomeranian weighing in at 6-7 pounds of pure love! This affectionate little guy adores snuggling and cuddling with his humans. He’s incredibly friendly and social. Romeo also does well with other dogs and cats too! He’d be happy to have a furry sibling! Romeo is learning to do his potty business outside and is making progress with positive reinforcement. He does fine on a leash and is continuing to improve with practice. Despite being new to his environment, Romeo has shown he’s a great sleeper—he sleeps quietly through the night in his crate! If you’re looking for a sweet, gentle, and loyal pup who will love to be by your side, Romeo could be your perfect match. Apply today to meet this charming little fluffball!

Story
AURORA - Pom Mix, 1.5 years, 12lbs, Spayed  Our Team Says: "Aurora came to us with a significant limp. Upon a physical exam the vet could not elicit a pain response from her leg but did not that her limp was significant.  We had x-rays completed and sent out for review by a radiologist. Overall the radiologist didn't find anything super concerning  - no broken bones or fractures.  They did find an effusion at the wrist. An effusion is a build up of fluid usually from inflammation. We don't know if the effusion is happening because of an old injury or because of the way she walks. Next steps are to start her on anti-inflammatories and rest (so short walks). And see how she responds to a course of anti-inflammatories. Interested adopters will need to be ready to complete a joint tap and/or a consultation with an orthopedic surgeon if she doesn't show much progress with the course of anti-inflammatories." Level of dog ownership experience needed:INTERMEDIATE: This dog will need significant structure and plenty of daily exercise, training, and mental stimulation – 90 consecutive minutes of movement in the morning plus potty break walks and brain games throughout the day. The adopter must have relevant primary care experience with a similar breed, temperament, and/or energy level. (Primary care experience includes ownership, fostering, or dog sitting as an adult, not a dog you grew up with.) Energy levelLOWER: Pretty chill indoors and won’t demand endless amounts of stimulation and exercise but still needs a few walks a day (10-30 min each) for potty breaks and to stretch their legs MEDIUM: Needs a daily 60-90 minute walk or window of quick paced exercise (minimum) in addition to potty break strolls (10-30 min each). Also needs significant socializing opportunities outside the home and mental stimulation at home like tricks training practice, chew items, and puzzle toys. (This is regardless of dog size – many small breeds were designed for lots of activity and will exhibit unwanted behavior when they’re understimulated.)  HIGH: Needs a daily 2-hour (or longer) window of quick paced exercise each morning in addition to potty break strolls (10-30 min each). May also need another 40+ minute walk in the afternoon. Also needs significant socializing opportunities outside the home and mental stimulation at home like tricks training practice, chew items, and puzzle toys. (This is regardless of dog size – many small breeds were designed for lots of activity and will exhibit unwanted behavior when they’re understimulated.)  Potty trained?Probably! Adults usually are, but all will have transitional accidents for the first week or so. A consistent walking route and schedule plus finding spots with grass or dirt can help. Social with other dogs?Yes, but we don’t know to what degree yet. Some like to wrestle with every passing pup, others can coexist well but prefer to keep to themselves. We’ll learn more soon. Social with cats? Not sure yet! Some breed mixes that are generally NOT great matches for homes with cats include large hounds, huskies, and shepherds.  Comfortable with children?  (ALWAYS requires adult supervision)We’re not sure yet, but we try to err on the side of caution. Respectful kids ages 8 and up are probably a safe bet. Children must always be monitored and taught to interact with dogs of any age respectfully.  Okay in the city?We don’t know yet. Most adult dogs do well in the city after they’ve had time to adjust to a new environment, but some never adapt and need homes in the burbs.  Medical statusPlease read information at top of adoption listing :) Up to date on their DHPP, Bordetella, and Rabies vaccines; spayed/neutered; microchipped; treated with dewormer upon intake  How this dog ended up with Social Tees:Most of our dogs come via partner groups who help us save them from shelters where they are at risk of euthanasia in Tennessee or St. Thomas. There are very few spay/neuter resources there and many more animals in those areas than there are people to adopt them. Rescue groups like ours bring them to the northeast where the desire for pets like these allows us to save their lives.  PLEASE NOTE: We cannot guarantee any breed mix, exact age, or full grown size (if the dog is under a year old). We do our best with very educated guesses though!  This animal is not at the Social Tees office, all are in foster homes. Story
Blaze is a 1-year-old terrier weighing around 12 lbs, and he’s truly a special dog! Despite his young age, Blaze is remarkably sweet and chill. He loves curling up on a pillow for a nap or cuddling quietly in your lap, but he’s also full of playful energy and enjoys a good game of fetch. Blaze is well-mannered and responds to commands—he listens when you say “no” or “stop.” He sleeps soundly through the night in his crate and greets people and other dogs with respect. Blaze gets along well with dogs of all sizes and walks beautifully on a leash. He eats well, loves treats, and is quick to learn when motivated by them. He’s the perfect mix of playful and calm, making him an ideal companion for a loving home! Approved adopters interested in Blaze can email adopt@hbrdogs.com for more info. If you're not approved yet, apply today at hbrdogs.com!

Good with dogs,
Story
This pretty little Pomeranian arrived at an NCCR foster home on 1/17/25. She is an approximately 6 ½ year old female, weighing around 9 lbs. full-grown, rescued from a life of producing puppies for profit. Her foster mom reports: “She’s content, lovable, calm, pees on training pads, doesn’t have separation anxiety, bonds with humans easily, eats well, and loves to be petted. Smiles and wags her tail when she sees me. Loves her crate for sleeping. The only thing is that she does not like the outside and is very content to pee on a pad. Maybe in the warmer weather she’ll do the outside for peeing and pooing. Right now, she runs to get back in the house when I put her down on the ground outside. She has a very sweet disposition. She’s ok with other dogs. I’m dogsitting my stepson’s dog for the weekend and neither one of them were phased with each other, no barks or growls.” If you think you might be interested in adopting, your first step should be to complete an  Adoption Application found on the website at caninerescue.org.  *After you have completed your application, you will get a confirmation that we have received your application. It takes a lot of time to process the applications, so we ask for your patience while we do so. If you see that the dog you were interested in has been adopted it means there were many applications for that dog and we did not get as far as processing your application before a home was found. We welcome you to apply again if you see another dog that interests you.   If you have a question, please email your question to adoptions@caninerescue.org. It is much easier and quicker for us to respond by email as we receive many phone calls each day. We do adopt out of state, however we do not transport or ship dogs. Potential adopter must be able and willing to travel to the Rescue to meet the dog they are interested in. *PLEASE double check all of the phone numbers that you provide as if they are incorrect, we will be unable to process your application. Please also let your references know that someone from NCCR will be calling them. Most adoption team members call from their personal phone so advise your references that there may be an unknown number or a private number calling them. NYS Registration #RR028
