Jacks is a 13 pound, 6 year old, hypoallergenic Poodle / Maltese mix. Jacks has a bite history and will need an experienced owner who is willing to work with him to build trust. Jacks has been patiently waiting for his forever home since his rescue from the local shelter in April 2022.    He is very loving and affectionate and loves to kiss and nibble noses, ears, and mouths if given the chance. He loves sitting right on your lap, snuggling as close as possible to you. He loves to be touching you, but doesn't love to be touched BY you. He is not a dog that likes touching or petting and will react out of fear and bite hands if provoked. We do not recommend he be around children or people who are unable to understand not to touch him. Don't mistake his fear for aggression, he has never gone after anyone for no reason. All bites were the result of being approached by hands (even with the best intentions). Despite his fear of hands, he does quite well in first encounters with strangers and has never bitten a stranger or the vet.    Jacks is extremely smart, he learned to use "Hunger For Words" talking buttons very quickly to communicate his basic needs such as "dinner", "outside", "play", and "water". He considers his crate as his safe space, where he can go when he's feeling overwhelmed. He walks very well on a leash and can walk at heel. He does great on walks and doesn't react to other dogs, cats, or humans even in busy/loud places. Jacks is very calm and well behaved during the day while his foster parents are working from home, mostly sleeping with a few potty breaks. However, he can be very vocal when he's ready for his evening walk or play time, or when his favorite person leaves the room. He does not like to be left alone and bonds very quickly.    Jacks is very playful and active. He loves to run, hike, and walk. He can go far distances at a fast pace. He does best behaviorally when he gets at least a 30 minute walk per day, although we recommend even more activity if possible. He loves to play with toys including antlers, plush squeaky toys, and other chew toys. He is somewhat treat-motivated and loves going through his tricks such as sit, shake, high five, hold hands, up, lay down, roll over, and even going "over" and "under" hurdles.    Jacks currently lives in a foster home with 2 other dogs. He is very submissive to other pets and has never bitten another animal. He is potty trained, but he may mark in an environment with other dogs if there is a smell of past pee.    He takes anti-anxiety medication Trazodone daily for his anxiety. Plan on getting Jacks groomed every 6-8 weeks. He has a special sedating medicine that can be used, and we can recommend a groomer in San Diego who is familiar with his needs.    With a lot of love and dedication, Jack will make the perfect dog for the right family. He is neutered, microchipped, and current on vaccines. His adoption fee is $300. All Second Chance Dog Rescue dogs are spayed/neutered, are up to date on vaccines and have microchips prior to adoption.   Adoption fees vary depending on age of dog. Fees help Second Chance Dog Rescue cover spay/neuter costs,   vaccinations, medical treatments, food and supplies. He loves to lay close to his people, getting pets whenever he can. His love language is bring his favorite toy to play fetch with, which he can do for hours as he follows you around the house. He will even hand you his toy with the command “toy.” He can also sit and shake. When its time to relax, he will find his guarding spot, usually at the foot of the bed or edge of the couch. Cubbie is not a big barker, however he may bark once or twice when he hears a noise outside. He does not have an ounce of separation anxiety, he will chill by the door until you come home and he will be so happy to see you. He is potty trained and has not had an accident in his foster home yet! Cubbie is low energy, but gets so excited for his daily walk around the block, which is about all he needs. He is the perfect apartment dog! Cubbie is good on leash. He may benefit from some training to not pull. He loves to meet other dogs on his walks. However, he does not need to meet every dog and does a good job walking past with out barking or pulling towards them. He sometimes is more interested in the smell of the environment than the people and dogs he’s meeting.  Cubbie loves to seek refuge in small enclosed spaces, like his crate or under a chair. He is not crate trained but loves to have his own space where he can reside for some alone time or too self soothe.  Cubbie has loved every human and dog he has meet so far. However, he is the king of his own personal space. He is slow to warm up to be handled. He loves pets when he approaches you for them but does not like to be approached unannounced. He does not like to be handled for grooming so he would do best with someone who is patient to work with him to give him the grooming he needs, or being taken to an experienced groomer. He does do well with a brushing but when he’s done, he is done for the day. He has some resource guarding around his food but settles in once he is comfortable and knows it won’t be taken away from him. He struggles to see in low light and may become defensive if he does not know what is happening. His fosters have had success talking to him so he knows where they are. He would do best with patient people who can read his cues and give him the space he needs and should not be in a home with young children.  He is neutered, microchipped and current on vaccines. His adoption fee is $300. All Second Chance Dog Rescue dogs are spayed/neutered, are up to date on vaccines and have microchips prior to adoption.   Adoption fees vary depending on age of dog. Story
Dante is a 2 year old neutered male Terrier Husky Mix located in Camarillo, California. He weighs around 70lb. He is good with people and would do best in a home with older kids and possibly bigger dogs. He is a bit of a rough player. He is not good with cats or little dogs. He is a very sweet dog! He is active and enjoys biking, hiking, and walks. He has basic training as well as fun tricks and is crate trained. He is brave but easily distracted while out and about (i am are working on that). He would do great with dog sports, or an active home but needs a confident handler.
