Story
Lively 14-lb. 10-year-old rat terrier Mitzi has vocal skills that are as cute as she is. Once she knows you, Mitzi will greet you with a wagging tail, but far more amusing are her 'tough-guy' barks as you're unlocking the door, followed by little grunts of excitement when she sees it's you! No matter how long you're gone, her delight at your return is the same. Now, if you try picking her up, especially under her arms, you may be admonished with a sharp squeal. She also seems a little sensitive to touch on her legs, although there's no medical explanation. But when she rolls over and wiggles, it's time for a belly rub. She wants touch on her terms and will let you know what those terms are!  Mitzi doesn't care much about toys, but she's interested in chasing squirrels she sees outside. She loves the outdoors almost as much as snoozing on the sofa near her humans. She also enjoys walks and lying in the grass to soak up the sun. On walks, she doesn't bark at unfamiliar dogs, and in her foster home, she gets along with the other dogs, although she may nudge closer to her people if she thinks the others are getting all the attention. She would do well in a home with or without other dogs. Mitzi sleeps and travels nicely in a crate, but she's house-trained and can be left uncrated when you're out. Mitzi's perfect home would appreciate her gentle nature and match her devotion with their love and attention. She would likely be fine with older children who can understand and respect her desire (or lack thereof) to be touched. Story
Zoe is the sweetest rattie girl you'll ever come across. Though she was skittish when she first came to rescue, she's now an independent and quiet 8-year-old. She is undemanding and will nap while her foster mom has to work. She's happy wherever she is - on a chair, in her bed, in her crate. Once she gets to know you, she will begin to follow you around and curl up as close to you as she can. She is completely house-trained and loves to sniff around on her leashed walks. She will go out in the yard too, but would prefer if you came with her! She has been accepting of visitors to her foster house, although she keeps a little distance from strangers until she gets to know them. She gets along with other well-behaved dogs, mostly by ignoring them, and may shy away from a more assertive pup. Her most energetic moments are when it's time to eat, and if you're late with her dinner, she'll shake her head and put up her paws as a reminder that it's time to eat — NOW! Though she's petite at under 13 lbs., she has a healthy appetite and loves her treats. Zoe is a quiet little love bug who over time will reward her adopter with a close and affectionate bond. If you want the life of the party, best to look elsewhere, but if you're in the market for a sweet, well-behaved companion, Zoe's the one! Story
Andy is a spunky, 1.5 years old, 18 lbs. rat terrier mix. He was brought to the rescue as a stray and is currently spending his time at his foster parent's boarding and training facility. When Andy first entered his foster home, he was overwhelmed by all the new things and the constant change of dogs each day. Since then, he has learned better coping behavior and is no longer afraid. Andy will need additional training and socialization if his adopters intend to take him to public places where he will meet new dogs and people. He may bark and jump when over-excited and his greeting behavior can be read as aggressive to some dogs. However, he is improving with training that will need to be continued. Once people and dogs are no longer 'new' to him he is a good friend and playmate.   Andy is VERY trainable and wants to do the things his people ask him to do. His foster parents think that he may do okay in a home with cats with close management and boundary setting. He is house-trained and has had no accidents in his crate or in the dog room of the boarding facility, though he would like to be let out often while he's new with you. Andy loves to snuggle and will rub against you like a cat. He walks nicely on leash and comes to his name, and is ready to learn more. He's a great young boy with a happy future ahead of him once he finds his forever home!
