Story
Give a warm welcome to Maria, an adorable 2-month old, 11-pound (as of 3/22) Redbone Coonhound mix who is super sweet, friendly to everyone, very cuddly, and as playful as can be. Maria is a big fan of toys, but is somewhat partial to the squeaky ones which she finds totally irresistible. She loves to horse around with other dogs and she’s lovely around humans of all shapes and sizes, including young children. Maria has been working on her housebreaking skills and is making excellent progress. She uses pee pads when necessary, and her leash-walking manners are very good. Maria seems to enjoy the outdoors, and is especially fond of fenced-in yards where she’s free to romp, roam, and run around. When Maria is finished playing, she turns into a total snuggle-bunny. She loves being pet, she lives for belly rubs, and she will never refuse the offer of an ear massage. If you want to get Maria’s attention, treats are a sure way. In no time at all, she has mastered the commands come and sit, and is capable of learning so much more. If you’ve been waiting for that one special puppy to come along, Maria might just be it. She’s solid gold, in both color and personality! And how cute are her little white booties? Story
Meet Maneater (Manny)! At just 3 months old and 18 pounds of pure squish, Manny is a happy-go-lucky Hound mix with a heart as big as his floppy ears. This playful pup is full of energy, charm, and cuddles—and he’s ready to find his forever home! Manny is the kind of dog who turns heads and hearts. With his constantly wagging tail and cartoon-dog energy, he’s always ready to play, explore, and make new friends. He’s never met a stranger—he happily trots up to anyone willing to give him a little attention. Manny loves other dogs and plays for hours with his foster brother. Toys are even more fun when another dog is playing too! While he’s still young and learning the ropes, he’s already crate trained, house trained, and puppy pad trained. He’s been on a leash in the apartment and is getting used to it—though he’s still figuring out that it’s not a chew toy. Cuddling is one of Manny’s favorite pastimes. When he’s done playing, he’ll snuggle up next to his foster mom or try to curl up with his foster sibling for a cozy nap. He’s also a big fan of belly rubs, head scratches, and Wellness puppy treats. This sweet boy hasn’t shown any signs of barking, resource guarding, or unwanted behaviors. He’s super responsive to “no,” and loosely follows commands like “sit” and “come.” Manny does well on the subway and is still getting used to car rides (he may get a bit carsick), but overall, he travels just fine. Manny would thrive in a home with another playful pup or a human who’s ready to keep up with his fun-loving energy and cuddle-filled naps. If you’re looking for a best friend who’s playful, affectionate, and absolutely adorable—Manny might just be your guy! Story
Map - 15lbs & 12 weeks (as of 4/11), Redbone Mix, Neutered Expected to be about 50lbs Full Grown  This puppy is eligible to join our foster-to-adopt program. Please email fostertoadopt@socialteesnyc.org with the animal’s name in the subject line if you are interested! Want to straight up adopt? Submit an adoption application at socialteesnyc.org. Thier Foster Parent Says: "Map is a wonderful dog, very cuddly and sweet. In a few days the neighborhood has fallen in love with him energy and adorable face. Every day he seem to learn new things and he seems to rapidly adapt to city life and bathroom breaks. He has not barked so far. He likes being around you and cuddling." Level of dog ownership experience needed:INTERMEDIATE: As an adult, this dog will need significant structure and plenty of daily exercise, training, and mental stimulation – 90 consecutive minutes of movement in the morning plus potty break walks and brain games throughout the day. The adopter must have relevant primary care experience with a similar breed, temperament, and/or energy level. (Primary care experience includes ownership, fostering, or dog sitting as an adult, not a dog you grew up with.) Relevant puppy care experience is a huge plus, but bare minimum the adopter must have TONS of time and patience. Raising a puppy can be a lot of fun, but it’s also  tremendous work. Puppies’ personalities and exercise/stimulation requirements change dramatically between now and when they’re a year old as their bodies and brains develop, so an active lifestyle and the ability to adapt to a pup’s evolving needs are a must. We strongly urge professional dog training with a rewards based trainer from the get go. Adults only or kids ages 8 and up – all puppies go through a mouthy, rambunctious phase and often accidentally hurt children when playing. PLEASE DO YOUR OWN BREED RESEARCH to make sure you have a better understanding of the kind of temperament and exercise requirements this dog may have as an adult. Energy levelMEDIUM: Very young puppies sleep and nap a lot, but their energy level skyrockets when they become teens (4 months to around a year). As an adult, this dog will need significant structure and plenty of daily exercise, training, and mental stimulation – 90 consecutive minutes of movement in the morning plus potty break walks and brain games throughout the day at a minimum. (This is regardless of dog size – many small breeds were designed for lots of activity and will exhibit unwanted behavior when they’re understimulated.)  Potty trained?Working on this skill. Puppies under 12 weeks old are often on track with their wee pad skills, but they’re too young to walk outside in public NYC areas yet because they haven’t finished their puppy vaccine series. Puppies older than 12 weeks are usually learning to do their business outside. Potty training takes a lot of patience, consistency, and clean up.  Crate trained?Nope. None of our new puppies have been formally trained, but many of our foster parents/adopters choose to crate train. It can be a great way to keep puppies safe and teach them independence. Social with dogs?Yes. Some puppies are shy, others are bold, but all have the potential to be taught healthy socializing skills. It’s a huge part of raising a puppy and must be done carefully. How they interact with other dogs depends largely on how their humans help them learn to.  Social with children?  (ALWAYS requires adult supervision)Yes… but most puppies are not a great match for a home with kids under age 8 because they go through intense mouthy play and rambunctious phases and often accidentally hurt young kids while playing. Children must always be monitored and taught to interact with dogs of any age respectfully.   Social with cats?Yes. Almost all puppies have the potential to be friends with a cat. It’s on the adopter to know their cat’s temperament and preferences and to teach their puppy respectful manners.  Mouthy play: High! All puppies go through phases where they chew your stuff and grab your hands, arms, feet… puppies naturally explore the world, play, and test boundaries with their mouths. (It also happens when they’re teething.) Their teeth are super sharp though, so it can be a very painful phase for humans and other animals in the home. Proper training, outlets, and socialization are key. Leash manners:None. :) Will need to learn this skill.   Separation anxiety:MEDIUM: Most puppies have some level of separation anxiety as they learn to self soothe. Often they cry the first 10+ minutes when they are left home alone or in a crate. Consistent training and alone time is crucial. Medical status:Healthy as far as we know. Up to date on their DHPP and Bordetella vaccines (for dogs under 4 months old, adopters will need to finish the DHPP vaccine series and administer the Rabies vaccine at 16 weeks of age), spayed/neutered; microchipped; treated with dewormer uponHow this dog ended up with Social Tees:Most of our dogs come via partner groups who help us save them from shelters where they are at risk of euthanasia in Tennessee or St. Thomas. There are very few spay/neuter resources there and many more animals in those areas than there are people to adopt them. Rescue groups like ours bring them to the northeast where the desire for pets like these allows us to save their lives.  PLEASE NOTE: We cannot guarantee any breed mix, exact age, or full grown size (if the dog is under a year old). We do our best with very educated guesses though!  This animal is not at the Social Tees office, all are in foster homes. Story
My name is Luke and I am a 2 1/2 yr old redbone coonhound. If you know the breed...I definitely follow my nose and I would not be good around small animals...such as cats....squirrels, chipmunks. I would do best in a home without other animals. I arrived at the shelter in rough shape and I was just a bag of bones...since being at the shelter I have put on some serious weight and I look sooo much better!! I am a loving dog to my humans, and have come a long way with my leash manners. Of course I have hound sound too!!!
