You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. All of the animals posted on our site have been temperament tested. While not all are in the immediate area, once we have processed and approved your application, we will move the dog to our adoptive area for you to meet, greet and hopefully adopt. Sometimes we will have more than one application on a dog. That does not mean it automatically goes to another family but you should be aware of the fact that until you are approved and set up for the meet/greet.. the dog could get adopted by another applicant.NOTE- ROSA IS LISTED AS A COURTESY FOR ANOTHER RESCUE ORGANIZATION.  PLEASE SEE CONTACT INFO BELOW. Rosa is a mature adult Rotteweiler who may be 7-9 years old and weighs about 90 pounds. Even though Rosa was missing some hair and hasn't been taken the best care of, someone taught her how to sit and shake hands. She's a sensitive girl who was been upset by losing her family and is comforted by the presense of her foster mom. She would even happier in her very own home with a new family!Rosa is a strong girl who will need a physically capable adopter as she can pull pretty hard on leash. She has been reactive to other dogs and cats in her foster home so being an only child will set her up to be the most successful! We know there are so many great people out there how love rotties! We just need to find one that will give Rosa the happy ending we want for her!A reduced adoption fee of $100 does apply for Rosa, our seniors, special medical and behavioral needs dogs and other 'slow to adopt' dogs!Augusta Dog Adoptions is an all- volunteer, foster- based rescue. We take applications online schedule adoptions in Waynesboro, VA. A $175.00 adoption fee ($300 for puppies under 6 months old) helps us take care of all the dogs we rescue. All dogs are spayed/neutered, tested for heartworm and tick borne diseases (if old enough), microchipped, and vaccinated for rabies (if old enough), distemper/parvo and bordetella. They are also treated for internal and external parasites. Many dogs also receive extensive medical care such as dental work and major surgeries. DISCLOSURE: The adoptable pets in our program are still in the care and custody of owners who wish to re-home their pet. Owners have enlisted Rescue Well to provide marketing and screening of applicants as a service, free of charge. All fees and adoption conditions are determined by the owner. We advise that adopters do not send payment or deposits for pets prior to adopting.  ***** Beautiful Redd Potato is 1yo, weighs 88lbs, is spayed, is up to date on her vaccines, and is microchipped.  Redd Potato knows sit, stay, & off; she does well during car rides; she fears and/or dislikes thunder and loud noises.  Redd Potato's guardian adds:        "Redd Potato is very welcoming to friends and family alike, always the first to greet you at the door with her wagging tail and charming personality.  The coonhound in her is sure to immediately detect whether you will be the one to provide her beloved belly rubs, any toy, or a special treat - she's not picky.  Finding treats in puzzle toys (Kong, Woof, etc) is a favorite pastime.  When she smiles and looks at you with those beautiful amber eyes, you can't resist giving her an extra treat or two.  She loves a fenced yard and running back and forth or in circles.  When she gets tired or wants some quiet time, she retreats to her crate on her own. The groomers have not had any problems with her baths and nails, always reporting good behavior.  Redd loves to be loved and will love you right back. If you need a hole dug, she's your girl!  She will not climb a full flight of stairs but two or three is not a problem.  She needs some more practice on a leash, but doesn't do terribly bad."   Redd Potato's guardian explains why she has made the difficult decision to rehome her:   "Interdog Aggression - raised with canine sister she was found and adopted with; LOVED each other until two weeks ago.  Now they growl at each other and must be kept seperate." BITE/SCRATCH/LUNGE/ATTACK INCIDENTS:  On 12 & 13 July 2023, Redd Potato bit her canine sister, the bite broke the skin, but animal control was not involved.  Redd Potato's guardian explains the circumstances surrounding the incidents:  "1st (incident) - Dogs were playing in the yard, and became overly aggressive with one another; both came out with injuries (bites and scratches).  They were fine the remainder of the night and next morning with each other.   2nd (incident) - The following night, after the girls had played together and eaten dinner, I was inspecting her for bites and scratches to apply first aid to, when her sister walked over and they lunged at each other and began to fight again. They separated willingly.  New scratches and bites from this incident were treated." Redd Potato's guardian offers a brief medical history: "Scrathes and bites from two dog incidents are healing are healing well.  Waiting for fur to grow back over where vet shaved and treated.  Cutaneous histiocytoma on chest should disappear on its own within a month or two." Redd Potato's guardian states the following regarding children:  Redd Potato lives with a 15yo child, but her guardian doesn't recommend her living with children, stating "Wags tail, wants attention". Redd Potato's guardian states the following regarding dogs:  Redd Potato lives with her canine sister, but her guardian doesn't recommend her living with dogs, stating "At most recent vet visit, left them [other dogs] alone.  If dogs walk by the house, she will bark at them from our fenced yard."  Redd Potato's guardian states the following regarding cats:  Redd Potato hasn't lived with cats, so her guardian doesn't recommend her living with cats, stating "Barks at cat that walks outside of fence." Redd Potato's guardian describes her as: Very active Barks alot Playful Friendly Affectionate Fearful Indoor dog Nervous House-Trained Crate-Trained Digger Redd Potato's guardian describes her ideal future home:  "No dogs, no other pets, no young children, fenced yard." Owners have enlisted Rescue Well to provide marketing and screening of applicants as a service, free of charge. All fees and adoption conditions are determined by the owner. We advise that adopters do not send payment or deposits for pets prior to adopting.  ***** Athena is a serbian rottweiler, is 7yo, weighs 75lbs, is spayed, is not up to date on her vaccines, and is not microchipped.  Athena knows the following commands:  sit, stay, lay down.  Athena dislikes/fears the vet, being approached aggressively; some men make her nervous.  She is kept in the home during the day and sleeps in her crate at night.  She loves car rides, as she gets excited and loves the windows opened.  Athena's guardian adds:  "... extremely loyal, fast learner, eager to please and loves affection.  We have had a dog behavioralist (Tony) take her almost every weekend for the past year to help socialize her and ease her anxiety.  If you have an interest in adopting her, we ask that you meet with Tony so he can make sure she is a good fit for your home.  We will provide all the supplies you will need to take care of her. A kennel, dog bed, leash, collar, dog food container, brush, dog hair vacuum, ect." Athena's guardian explains why she has made the difficult decision to rehome her:  "We can no longer take care of her." Lunge incident:  on 1 September 2003, Athena lunged at a neighbor's cat; there was no contact; animal control was not involved.  Athena's guardian explains:   "She never touched our neighbor.  I had her on a leash out for a walk.  He came around his car and approached her aggressively.  She was barking at him but he still kept coming closer.  She then lunged at him when he came within 2 feet of her.  He backed off after that.  I have had a dog behavioralist take her every weekend since then." Athena's guardian states the following regarding children:  Athena lives with young children, ages 2 and 4, so her guardian doesn't recommend her living with smaller children, stating...      "Athena is extremely patient with small children. My two children have played with her ears, grabbed her from behind, grabbed her face, played with her paws, cuddled her in her bed, given her treats, etc. Her only downfall is not realizing her own size. If she is excited to get outside and the children are in the path, she might graze them and knock them over with her shoulder."     Athena's guardian states the following regarding dogs:  Although Athena has lived with dogs, her guardian doesn't recommend her living with dogs, stating...      "Athena has lived with a small Shih Tzu and a Black Lab mix in her first home. She has also been introduced to a few different dogs in the past year and been totally fine with most of them. There have been a couple times though that she does not get a long with another dog and can become aggressive. If the new home does have another dog, an introduction would need to be done to make sure they get along." Athena's guardian states the following regarding cats:  Since Athena hasn't lived with cats, her guardian doesn't recommend her living with cats, stating "She chases them and tries to grab them with her mouth". Athena's guardian describes her as: Playful Affectionate Protective Nervous House-Trained Crate-Trained Athena's guardian describes her ideal future home:         "Athena would do great in a chill home environment, she is a bit of a homebody, she loves to cuddle and get a lot of love and affection, a nice yard that is fenced in would do great for her excercise as she loves to play fetch and sniff around the outdoors, it doesn't take much for her to get tired out though and after a few throws she will be happy to chill next to you and enjoy the company." Owners have enlisted Rescue Well to provide marketing and screening of applicants as a service, free of charge. All fees and adoption conditions are determined by the owner. We advise that adopters do not send payment or deposits for pets prior to adopting.  ***** Cleo is 5 months old, weighs 37lbs, is intact, is up to date on her vaccinations, but is not microchipped.  Cleo is left alone at home each day for not more than 10 hours; she is kept outside, in her crate, or in the living room with her guardian.  At night, she sleeps in her crate.  Cleo rides pretty well in the car; she experiences a bit of anxiety by no motion sickness.  Cleo's guardian adds:   "Cleo knows "sit" and "wait". "Wait" was taught to her so that does not automatically run towards the person who has her bowl of food.  She also knows "come" and "go home".  "Go home" is the command that is used when it is time for her to go into her.  Cleo doesn't have any fears per se but, she doesn't like being in the store shopping carts.  She gets anxious and withdrawn.  She is sweet, gentle, and mild mannered and loves just having physical contact with a human being." Cleo's guardian explains why she has made the difficult decision to rehome her:   "I have been managing with her being the last one of the litter my rottie had for some time, so I can keep her for longer but with her- I have 5 dogs in my house now.  I have 3 of my own dogs and a 4th one who I was also trying to rehome with no luck so, I am going to keep him and have found a kennel that works with my outside space so that all of my dogs do not have to be confined to one room all together." Cleo's guardian offers a brief a medical history:   "Cleo was treated for some diarrhea around 4 weeks old, the cause was not determined as it cleared up and a fecal examination ruled out any parasites." Cleo's guardian states the following regarding children:  Although Cleo hasn't lived with children, her guardian recommends her living with children, stating "Cleo is very sweet, gentle and mild mannered and she exhibits the same personality traits with young children". Cleo's guardian states the following regarding dogs:  Since Cleo lives with dogs, her guardian recommends her living with dogs, stating "Cleo is curious of dogs outside the home and has always been neutral or excited when introduced to dogs outside the home". Cleo's guardian states the following regarding cats:  Since Cleo hasn't lived with nor otherwise been around cats, her guardian doesn't recommend her living with cats. Cleo's guardian describes her as: Very active Playful Friendly Shy Affectionate Always at your side House-Trained Crate-Trained Likes men Likes women Cleo's guardian describes her ideal future home: "Cleo would thrive in a home where she can get lots of attention and pets.  I think she would do well with any kind of family structure but, I think she could have an extremely beautiful bond with a child as she loves being with my younger sisters who are 7.5 and 6.  Additionally, though Cleo is sweet and mild mannered, she does love to play outside on occasion and loves being outside even more when getting to play with more than one dog."
