On September 11th, 2015 Sonny was hit by a car in Chicago and taken to Chicago Animal Care and Control.  He sat there for almost a week.....his euthanasia date was set but that didn't stop ICARe president Margaret from doing everything possible to save his life.  After many, many phone calls and emails we got Sonny to safety and more importantly to see the vet!  Tests were done showing a spinal cord injury that will not heal.  Sonny had no use of his back legs.  He also could not urinate on his own so his bladder had to be expressed manually.   Let me tell you how amazing this dog is. He can now urinate on his own AND even more amazing is Sonny is getting therapy and regaining the function in his back legs. He can take several steps and stand on his own! Sonny has some wheels to help him get around on longer walks as his front end is very strong and he is perfectly capable of going all over!  Sonny needs a special, special forever home.  A family that will love him and treat him like a king.  August 17, 2024, 8:13 pm

Meet Spider! Spider is a ten month old Shar Pei/Lab mix that came to us as a stray. He was quite the bouncy boy and immediately wanted to play bow and play with staff. We were surprised when no one came looking for him as he is such a people person but no one came back for him. He is now ready to start over and find his forever family and cannot wait! Spider loves to wrestle with other dogs. He has made lots of friends in the meantime and is a key member of our large playgroup. Spider loves to hop around, race, and wrestle with his furry companions. He didn't seem to mind cats so with a slow introduction, he should do fine. Spider loves all toys and cannot wait to have a toy box of his own someday! His adoption fee is $235, which includes his vaccines, fecal exam, deworming, heartworm test, current flea/heartworm prevention, registered microchip, and neuter.
