Story
Have you ever wanted a lap dog? And not just a Great Pyrenees who thinks they’re a lap dog (because we all know that’s a delusional 100-pound lie), but an actual lap dog? Well, meet Bailey Blue—the only lap dog who follows strict terms and conditions. She will sit in your lap. She will soak up your love and affection. But the second those pets stop? She’s out. Gone. Vanished like a toddler who just heard the word “bedtime.” She’s got things to do, places to be.
Bailey Blue is a 2-year-old, 22lb Sheltie/Corgi mix with the legs of a Corgi and the fluff of a Sheltie. She found herself in the shelter after an unfortunate run-in with a vehicle. A kind volunteer saw her and reached out, worried that her pelvis might have been injured. And, well, turns out they were right—Bailey had multiple pelvic fractures. Since the fractures were far along in the healing process, surgery wasn’t recommended as it would mean rebreaking everything again. However, Bailey Blue struts around without so much as a limp, like nothing ever happened so it is safe to say she has pretty much recovered. Now, let’s talk about the future: Bailey may develop arthritis in that leg down the road, which means she’ll probably need some pain meds on the occasional "ouchy" days. She will probably also milk it for extra treats and guilt you into upgrading her to the finest orthopedic dog bed money can buy, which the cat will probably claim and she will never use. So, if you're the type to baby your pets with plush pillows and "just one more cookie," Bailey will absolutely take advantage of your weakness.
Bailey Blue gets along just fine with other dogs—because, really, who wouldn’t want to be in her fan club? When people come over, she’s all "OMG, new people!" and then promptly flops onto the floor like a pancake, waiting for her personal petting session to begin. No jumping, no frantic barking—just the calmness of someone who knows they deserve all the attention, and they’re not about to waste energy chasing it. As for cats? Well, Bailey’s never had the pleasure, but we’re pretty sure she’d regard them with the same level of interest as a snooze button on an alarm clock—completely indifferent. And small children? Let’s just say she’s not exactly built for the "love-you-so-much-let-me-squish-you" type of kid. Sure, she’s small, but that doesn’t mean she’s a stuffed animal. Due to her past injury, she’s not the dog for a household with tiny humans who think picking her up in weird angles, carrying her around like an oversized burrito, or using her as a pillow is an acceptable form of bonding. If your kids understand the concept of personal space and don’t feel the need to test her flexibility, she’ll probably be just fine. Otherwise, she’ll politely request a home where she can maintain her dignity (and spine alignment) in peace.
Bailey’s energy level is a solid 6 out of 10, which puts her somewhere between a golden retriever on a caffeine high and a house cat who occasionally gets the zoomies but then immediately regrets it. She loves spending time outside, sniffing every blade of grass, and exploring the yard with her BFF, Cooper. They’ll bounce around for a bit, engage in some very official dog business, and then—like true professionals—clock out for a nap. In fact, she and Cooper often nap on the same dog bed, because personal space is clearly overrated. Bailey is the perfect balance of active and lazy. She’s all for a little backyard adventure but also firmly believes in the importance of beauty sleep. She’ll happily go outside, enjoy the fresh air, maybe chase a bug or two, and then decide that’s quite enough exertion for one day. Inside, she adores people and loves a good lap-sit session… but only on her terms. She’ll graciously accept pets, soak up the attention, and then—when she’s had her fill—she’s out. No emotional support duties beyond that, sorry. She does enjoy a good game of fetch… for approximately three throws. After that, she figures she’s made an effort, and it’s your problem if you wanted to keep playing. So, if you’re looking for a dog to train for a Frisbee league, keep moving. Bailey is not the dog for someone wanting an all-day jogging partner or a high-energy adventure buddy. However, if you’re looking for a part-time explorer, full-time couch companion, and professional nap enthusiast, Bailey Blue is ready to move in and judge your snack choices.
Bailey Blue is potty and kennel trained, which means she’s a civilized lady with good manners—most of the time. The only time she finds her voice is when someone has the audacity to pull into the driveway (how dare they?) or when she spots a mysterious creature lurking behind the fence. Could be a squirrel, could be a leaf blowing in the wind—either way, she’s on it. Whileher foster family is gone, she has the run of the sunroom and family room, and guess what? She doesn’t destroy anything. That’s right—no couch-shredding, no shoe-chewing, no "I got bored so I remodeled" moments. She just hangs out, probably pondering life’s mysteries or napping in a sunbeam like the elegant little queen she is. Now, let’s be honest—she’s not some perfect little angel. If the trash is within reach? Well, that’s just an opportunity she simply cannot resist. After all, if you were kind enough to leave behind delicious-smelling leftovers, why shouldn’t she investigate? She’s basically doing a quality-control check on your disposal habits.
