Story
This is Sam, a 5-year-old dog with some specific needs. He was my service dog in training until I retired him over a year ago, and he has since been living with a nice family. However, they are no longer able to care for him, and I am unable to take him back until I graduate in December. I am open to him being adopted by someone who can provide him with the care and attention he needs. Sam has some food aggression and recall issues, and he can be an escape artist. He has a high prey drive, especially when it comes to chicken and squirrels, and he is not suited for homes with young children. He does well with cats if introduced properly, and he is house trained and good indoors, but he does need regular exercise. Despite his issues, Sam is a playful and attentive dog, and he was excellent as a service dog in public places. He is not destructive, but he does love his toys.

Story
Iris was found by a good Samaritan who tried, without success, to find her owner. Iris is about 1-2 years old and only weighs 27 lbs. She knows simple commands including sit and shake and will start training class on Saturday. She walks well on a leash and is good with people and children over 5. She has not been crate-trained, but her foster mom is working on that. The person who found Iris took her to an emergency vet to make sure she was ok. They did bloodwork and x-rays. Bloodwork was fine. The x-rays showed that she has previously had FHO surgery. Everything else checked out fine. She still needs her vaccinations and a current heartworm test which will be done before she goes to her new home. Iris is waiting to find her new home and is hoping you are the right person for her. We are a RESCUE GROUP, not a shelter, and all of our animals are in foster homes. To start the adoption process, email us at adoptions@earstexas.org requesting an application. Submitting an application does not commit you in any way, but helps us make the best match between people and our available dogs. Your current or past dogs must be inside dogs who have been spayed/neutered and are on heartworm prevention. All of the dogs in our program are inside dogs and are completely vetted including all vaccinations, spayed/neutered, free of internal parasites, microchipped, heartworm negative and on prevention before adoption. Our adoption process includes an application, check of vet records or personal references, interview, neutral site meet & greet with the dog and your family, and a home visit.

Story
Meet Phoenix! Phoenix is a 5 year old shepherd mix who came to DPA with her 2 puppies. Her babies have since been adopted and it is now time for momma to find her loving home! Phoenix might be a shepherd mix, but as you can see by her pictures she is quite petite at only 50ish pounds. Phoenix LOVES her doggy friends and loves space to run and play with them. Phoenix also has been exposed to children as young as 3 years old and is good around kiddos of all ages who respect her space and know how to be around dogs. She LOVES her doggy friends and would definitely prefer to have one around. Phoenix is potty trained, and sleeps in her crate. She is the type of pup who will take some time to warm up to you, but will be so grateful to her new family. Can Phoenix be your new family member? Apply to adopt Phoenix today! Story
Meet Smokey Joe - a very sweet gentleman who will make a wonderful companion. At approximately 11 years old, he's obviously beyond the puppy stage. He loves going for walks and is more of a 'stop and smell the roses' kind of guy. After a walk, he's perfectly content to take a nap. Smokey Joe gets along well with dogs and cats, and should do well with both after proper introductions. His foster home has two adult dogs and four adult cats, and he's just part of the pack. He even lets one cat tease him and he doesn't seem to mind. He prefers to be near his people, so he'll happily follow you from room to room to make sure he's not missing out on anything. He will bark from time to time, but he quiets down before long. If you're looking for the company of a sweet soul, apply to meet Smokey Joe! A generous family has made a donation to sponsor Smokey Joe's adoption fee! All Dallas Pets Alive adoptable pets are spayed or neutered, microchipped, and up to date on vaccines upon adoption.
