Story
Tiffany was in pretty bad condition when we picked her up from the PG shelter in December. She weighed just 6 ½ pounds and had recently been shaved due to being matted. Her eyes were in AWFUL condition and as a result, she has had multiple eye surgeries. She had her left eye removed and can only see shadows and movement with her right eye. She will need to continue with eye drops multiple times a day for the rest of her life. She doesn’t mind getting the drops in but does not like to have her eye cleaned. She also has some allergies and is currently receiving a Cytopoint shot as needed and periodic medicated baths. She lives with 2 other small dogs and gets along well with them. I am not sure about cats and she would be best with kids over 12 years old. When the dogs start barking, she joins in and continues even after the “threat” is gone since she has no idea why she’s barking..lol. Tiffany adjusted to her surroundings quickly and has her own room where we feed her and have pee pads laid out for her. She LOVES to eat!! She will let you know when it is mealtime and we have not found any food she does not like!! She has free rein of the home and is non-destructive when left alone (on average about 6-7 hours a day). She sleeps in my bed at night along with the rest of the dogs! I have not crated her at all. She needs to be carried down the stairs but is able to go up the stairs on her own. If there are stairs in the home, there must be a gate to prevent her from falling. We use steps for her to get on and off the couch. She loves to be on the bed and will let you know when she needs to be lifted up. She has recently started playing with toys and tries to play with her doggie siblings every once in a while but she just keeps barking in their face and they don’t understand what she wants. She gets happy feet when she gets excited. She also greets us at the door when we get home! She walks well on leash but is rather slow because she loves to stop and sniff everything. She also has a doggie stroller that she likes to sit in and also likes to be carried. She wants to be in the same room as you and prefers to be laying on a pillow or on your lap. We think she should have an older doggie sibling so she is never alone. She definitely likes to be part of a pack. If you would like to add her to yours, apply today! Story
Due to the large number of applications we have received for Emma Jane already, we are not currently accepting new ones until we have a chance to process the existing ones. If you have already submitted an application, we will be in touch sometime in the next week or so. Emma is a 1 ½ yr old spayed Shih Tzu/Bichon Frise mix. She weighs approximately 10lbs. She will have a wavy/curly coat as it grows out. She will require regular brushing, grooming and vet care for the next 10+ years. Emma was given to me as an owner surrender and PGSPCA then took her into rescue. Her previous owner did not have time for her and she was “too active” for them. She had not been vetted beyond her initial shots and was completely matted. Thankfully a friend of mine was able to shave her within a couple of days and it made her feel so much better! She will need to be groomed on a consistent basis (every 6-8 weeks). She is now fully vetted. She lives with 4 other dogs ranging in age from 5-11. She gets along well with all of them, especially the beagle! They are obsessed with each other!! They love to run around the backyard, wrestle and share their toys with no issue. She gets the zoomies daily and will need to be able to run and get her energy out. I am not sure about cats (although she was non-reactive to the feral cats outside). She has only met kids once while on a walk but was completely fine with them. Emma is ALL puppy, so make sure you are prepared for those antics! She is super friendly and doles out kisses frequently! Most mornings and every time you come home, she greets you with lots of squeals and wiggles and demands to be picked up and cuddled on. She is a bit of an attention hog but that’s only because she has so much love to give. You may try to resist her, but her smile and joy will win you over and next thing you know she will be in your arms!! She has free reign of the home and is mostly non-destructive, maybe shredding some paper here and there if it’s in her reach. She currently is only left alone for about 6 hours a day. I have not seen any food aggression from her but she will steal food from another dog if it is on the floor or left in their bowl. Because of this, I feed her in a closed room. She will also steal food from you if you leave it unattended! She doesn’t know any commands but is food motivated so it would probably be easy to train her. She will go to the bathroom outside but is not house-trained yet. She runs back inside quickly and then I find special surprises in the house, ugh. She will need someone that has patience and will continue to work with her and teach her the proper areas to go potty by using positive training methods. She sleeps in my bed at night along with the rest of the dogs and sleeps through the night! I have not crated her since I’ve had her. She walks great on leash and is non-reactive to other dogs or animals. She rides well in the car and is very social so she would be easy to take on adventures! I think she would prefer to have another dog with medium/high energy to play with. And I think she will most likely do well with children over the age of 6 (just because she’s a little jumpy trying to get attention). A fenced-in yard would be preferable so she can run and get her zoomies out and then she will sleep soundly through the night. She makes us laugh every single day and is one of the most lovable dogs I’ve ever seen. She is a special dog that will make a family happy for years to come! My Profile Weight – 10.5 lbs Age - 20 mos (as of August 2024) Good with kids: Most likely Good with dogs: Yes Good with cats: Unknown/non-reactive to feral cats Fenced yard required:  preferred OK for townhouse or apartment: Yes for townhouse/No for apt House trained: Not yet, working on it Crate trained: No Barks when left alone: Not sure Chews inappropriate items: No but gets into things Training: None Activity Level: Medium/High Meet Me If you are interested in Emma Jane, consider letting us know by filling out a (no-obligation) adoption application.
