Meet this handsome young boy, Bogart. Bogart is typical shih-tzu with all that personality! He of course likes to be in charge. He is two years old and 20 pounds. He is looking for a family who understands his breed, no small children, and possibly another doggie to play with. We will evaluate each application on an individual basis to see what is best for the dog/puppy and the potential adopter. Puppies are very fragile and not toys. We recommend children be at least six years old to be considered to adopt a puppy. Small breed dogs ( such as chihuahuas, yorkies, shih tzus , etc) we recommend children be at least eight years old. Herding, working breeds we recommend children to be at least 12 years old. Again these are recommendations. Adoption Procedures: We will travel up to two hours ( one way) to do physical home visits and we do not do virtual home visits. Most of our dogs come from bad situations and we want to know where their forever home is going to be. While we do not require fencing on all dogs, certain dogs that need a fenced in yard, will not be adopted unless potential adopter has one. We also adopt some dogs to people who live in apartments ( as long as the landlord approves) but not all dogs. We do not adopt to anyone under 21 years of age. We also do not feel college students are the best fit for most of our dogs. Most of our dogs again, come from bad situations and need lots of attention. Most college students have financial responsibilities and we feel need to be focused on school. Our goal is to match the dog with a family that fits the dog’s needs. We are solely focused on what is best for each dog in our rescue. These dogs have had enough moving around, dumped out like trash, and we want to ensure they find their forever home. We do require you sign a contract and if at any time you cannot continue to provide for the dog, the dog comes back to the rescue. Your first step to adoption is filling our our on line application. You will then get an automated email stating we got your application Next our adoption coordinator will be in touch either by phone or email If your references check out, a home visit will be scheduled. Nova will thrive in a variety of living situations, whether in a house or apartment. She’ll fit right into any household—whether you're a single person, a couple, or a family. If you have kids, she would do best with children aged 10 and up who can be gentle and respectful. Nova would also be happy with another dog, as long as they’re calm and not overly energetic. She enjoys spending time with you and will let you know if you’re not giving her enough attention—she’ll gently place her front paws on your leg, as if saying, “Hey, I’m down here! I need some love!” Her favorite place in the world is in your lap, and if she can’t get there, she’ll happily settle next to you on the couch. Though we’re still learning if she knows commands or how well she walks on a leash, Nova is eager to please and should pick up on training quickly. Spending time working with her will not only help her learn but also create a strong bond between you. How do I act when I first meet new people? Loving. Nova will eagerly approach you for pets and will jump into your lap if you allow it. Expect her to jump up and place her front paws on your legs as her way of saying, “Hey, I’m down here and I need your attention and loving.” She simply loves being close to you! Other tips and tidbits: We don't know Nova's exact birthdate.  Her owner did not, either.  Records at her previous vet show an estimated birthdate of 11/23/2017. House trained? Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule if a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained.  A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule. Teddy is a sweet senior who turned up at a local shelter as a stray.  We think he is about 10yrs old.  Teddy is visually impaired, but doesn't let that stop him from getting around.  He is still adjusting to his foster home and as he settles in he gets comfortable cuddling.  Teddy is good with other dogs and cats.  Due to his age and vision, we don't recommend a home with very young children.  He his working on his housetraining as he continues to acclimate to his new foster home.  Finding himself in the shelter at his age has been tough on Teddy - he will need an adopter who is willing to let him adjust to his new environment.  Your patience will be rewarded with a new best friend.     Applications can be filled out at www.piedmontanimalrescue.com/adopt!  Petfinder and Adopt-A-Pet does NOT send us Applications.   We receive many applications and many never respond after processing GREATLY delaying the pets forever home.  Please only apply if you are serious about adopting.  Please also make sure your pets are up to date on you species applicable Vaccines (rabies, Distemper/Parvo, FVRCP, Bordetella), spayed/neutered, and on Heartworm prevention if a canine.   The adoption fee includes their age appropriate vaccinations(DA2PP and Bordetella), Dewormer, spay/neuter, microchip, heartworm test as well as the registration of their microchip information to you. Meet Sushi! Sushi is a super sweet dog! He is doing great at his foster home. He gets along very well with other dogs and like to play. Sushi is definitely a lapdog and loves human affection He is not a fan of the crate and would live an owner who is home more often than not. . Sushi is  very well potty trained even goes to the door to go out back when he needs to. This previous boy would make a wonderful companion and can't wait to find his forever home!
