Story
Meet Hamilton!! This very sweet and cuddly boy is looking for a family willing to love him for the time he has left. He's currently happy and loving life however he does have kidney failure. This requires no special daily care aside from specific food to eat and some eye drops for unrelated dry eye. He's still full of life and would be a great companion for you in the time he has left. Per the vet there is nothing more to do medically aside for loving and spoiling him until he declines past a good quality of life. Hamilton is an approx 10 year old male Shihtzu mix. He weighs 9 pounds. (Still has some staining on his feet but it should fade over time.) He has recently been updated on vaccines, neutered and microchipped. He has had a recent heartworm test and was negative. He has also had a recent grooming and a full dental surgery done. He is all set on his vetting for a while and will come with a good supply of his special food. All he needs is your loving home to share. Despite his age he is still fun and happy. He's a sweet guy that is so loved by everyone that meets him. He still gets the zoomies around the yard. You'd never know there was anything medically wrong with him. Hamilton is very friendly with people. He does fine on car rides. He is crate trained and has done very well with potty training when let out often. He will also use puppy pads if he's left inside longer than he can hold it. He's good about leash walking if you use a harness. He loves to explore and wander around. He's still very full of life. He does well sleeping in a crate overnight. He's not extremely vocal but has some short bursts of barking then settles down quickly. He loves being outside. He doesn't care about rain at all. His foster says he's a dog you just fall in love with instantly. He eats well and is an easy dog to have in the home. He was great for the groomer and his foster giving him a bath. Hamilton takes some time to adjust to other dogs. He needs some time to see they are safe and won't hurt him. After a day or so he starts to open up to new doggie friends. He has not been around cats yet. He would likely do good with older and calmer kids. Kids that won't treat him like a toy and will give him space when he needs it would be the best fit. Despite being older and having the kidney issues this sweet boy is any easy companion. He is loyal and loving and just want a safe place to share his love with you. He is fairly low maintenance but still fun and outgoing. A good mix of playful and relaxed. Please consider giving him a great home for the rest of his years. Vet and home checks required. Located in Hampton VA. (He will need to be adopted within a 2 hour drive radius) ‼️Please message VillageDogResource@gmail.com directly with questions or to get an application.‼️

Story
Fanta is one of the 60 Shih-Tzu recently surrendered by a breeder. They were all flea-infested and living in very unsanitary conditions. Most of the dogs lost almost all of their hair, but you can see this cute guy managed to keep most of his. Fanta is 5-6 years old. He's come a long way since arriving a couple of weeks ago. He was very skittish but is so much better. He has no problem meeting new people as long as they are patient with him and let him come up to them at his pace. His personality is starting to come out and he is starting to play and can be very amusing and goofy. He is a little nervous around the cats in the home but doesn't try to chase them. The foster family does not have any other dogs but we know he lived in a house with 59 other dogs his size so he may be OK with small dogs, but it would probably take him awhile to warm up. He would do good as an only dog. He loves to curl up on the couch with his foster mom and loves to be next to her all the time so he does need a home where someone is home a lot. He doesn't like being in a crate, but he is housebroken so no need to crate him. He does walk well on a leash. He does have some corneal density in his right eye which impairs his vision but he sees around it and that shouldn't change. He is vaccinated, neutered, negative for heartworms and micro-chipped. Fanta would do great with a person who wants a companion to be with them all the time. Young children would not be good since he is still skittish. We can see he is already doing so much better than when he arrived, and we know he is going to make a great companion for someone. If you are interested in Fanta our application can be found at www.homesfurhounds.org. He is located in Williamsburg.

Story
Sprite is now available! She is one of the 60 Shih-Tzu who were surrendered by a breeder. She is a shy 6yo little girl. Despite her living conditions before arriving, she's sweet as can be. She has become curious but is still skittish and startles very easily. Surprisingly she is really good with the younger child in the house. She would probably do OK with well-behaved, somewhat calm children. Does not do well with sudden movements or noises She was a little bit shy around the other dogs in the home when she arrived but is now getting along with dogs and cats of all sizes, including the foster family's big dog! She is eats well… Goes in her crate during the day when no one is home but prefers to cuddle at night. She always wants to be with her favorite people. She loves to give kisses or nose touches and always wants to know where everyone is. She is not 100% housebroken yet and is still learning to walk on a leash. She actually lost the most hair of the dogs we took in so her hair still looks a little sparse, but it is growing back and she is starting to look very cute. She is vaccinated, HW negative, spayed and micro-chipped. If you are interested in meeting Sprite our application can be found at www.homesfurhounds.org. She is located in Williamsburg, Va.

Story
Dr. Pepper is now available! She is one of the 60 Shih-Tzu who were surrendered by a breeder. Dr. Pepper is a shy 3yo little girl. Despite her living conditions before arriving, she's sweet as can be. She has become curious but startles very easily. The sofa is her current safe space, and she spends a lot of time there. Dr. Pepper is a "velcro" dog and does not like to be alone. She does get a bit anxious and shakes if her person leaves her sight. She does not like being on a leash, but when taken out, she quickly does her business and heads for the door. For the most part, she is doing very well with housebreaking and has only had a few accidents. Given how easy Dr. Pepper startles a quieter home with no young children would be best. She would do O.K. in a home with another laid-back dog her size to show her how to be a dog. She has suffered significant hair loss due to flea infestation. While a lot of her hair has started growing back and she looks much better, we can not guarantee that it all will. But we think she looks cute just like she is. Dr. Pepper has been spayed, is up to date on vaccinations, micro-chipped and HW negative. We know the right home is out there for this young, sweet girl. If you are interested in meeting her our application can be found at www.homesfurhounds.org. She is located in Williamsburg.

Story
O'Malley is available for adoption. According to his owner, the shelter, my vet and a groomer here is a guess at what breed(s) O'Malley is: Shih-Tzu/Havanese/Schnauzer/Miniature Dachshund/Chihuahua/JRT mix. So in other words we have no idea! O'Malley is a happy, handsome 1-3 year old. He is a sweet, cuddly guy. Great with other dogs. We do not know how he is with cats. He is a little shy until he gets warmed up. He does bark at people coming into the home until he warms up to them. O'Malley shows no signs of aggression over food or toys. He is on more of the submissive side. He does ok in a crate for a short time. He does just fine being left alone without a crate. He is marking at this time, so a belly band is currently being used. This will hopefully improve now that he is neutered. He does, for the most part, do his business outside. He does great on a leash and enjoys his walks. He does sleep in a bed and sleeps all throughout the night. O'Malley is currently learning basic commands and has picked up sitting for treats. He's a big fan of treats! He has been listening quite well. Given O'Malley's breed(s) please keep in mind that he will need regular grooming. We have found that he does very well at the groomers. For an application go to www.homesfurhounds.org. He is located in Williamsburg, Va.

Story
Mighty Handsome Milo is our happy offering in the Shih Tzu loving dog world. It is rare to have such a young and healthy male to offer.  He is only 3-4 years old and 14 pounds and came to us as a very raggedy boy that you could not even see his eyes under all the hair.  He was a neglected surrender and we were so happy to take him in and transform his life.  He is the sweetest thing ever and he loves everyone he meets.  Dogs, cats, people, it doesn't matter two legged or four. He just wants to be everyone's friend.  Mighty Handsome Milo has been around kids around 8 yrs old but not toddlers and so we will not consider families with young young children for everyone’s best interest.  He loves to play with other dogs his own size so a playmate would be a plus if you have another small dog. He would like to have a fenced in yard as he likes to roam around the yard and play with his foster roommates.   A constant leash walk might be confining and ultimately no fun!!!! He walks on a leash really well and is crate trained and doing good on his house training. Milo didn't know about steps until he came here and now goes up and down 4 steps to the yard like a pro.  He is adorable and loves to cuddle and give you all the kisses you want in life.  Toys are a favorite pastime to wile away the hours.  Don’t miss this rare offering in a young Shih Tzu who has a good 12+ years to add to your lifetime of loving a dog. If you are interested then please write to us about Critter Cavalry Rescue,  ccrnewengland@gmail.com PLEASE NOTE:  Our dogs are transported from Tennessee to meeting places in the states where we have posted.  Further information about us is given on our Adopt-A-Pet site.  The adoption fees vary and will be provided as well as noted on the application you receive.  Contact us at 615-661-5333 or ccrnewengland@gmail.comAugust 19, 2024, 8:06 am
