Story
About Me: Name: Rexie Breed (or best guess): Shih Tzu mix Approximate Age: 3 years Gender: Female Approximate Weight: 14 lb Adoption Fee: $400 ($450 - $50 sponsored) Requirements: another small dog, fenced yard, patient adopter Why In Rescue: puppy mill surrender Profile:   Rexie came from a commercial breeder/puppy farmer who was no longer going to use her for breeding.  She is a very shy girl and will need time and patience to understand and enjoy human companionship.  She is happy when she is in her kennel run with another dog, but very unsure of human touch.  She does need to have another dog in her new home to make her comfortable.  A secure fence will be needed as well.  Dogs from commercial breeders are generally undersocialized (often very scared/shy/skittish) and probably never lived in a house.  They will need to learn things like how to walk on a leash, go up stairs, and what things like a television are.  They need a patient adopter who will give them the time they need to adjust and to learn to trust people.  Every baby step forward needs to be celebrated, and the dog needs to be accepted for who they are at each step.  Some dogs can adjust quickly and learn how to be a loved pet pretty easily.  Others can take a long time to even be comfortable with things like walking through the house and being in the same room as a person.  No matter how far and how fast the breeder dogs progress, they are wonderful dogs and deserve a great home after their life on the puppy farm.  A fence or at least a secure fenced in potty area is highly recommended for the dog's safety, and may be required for some dogs.  Another small dog in the house can also help many former breeders adjust faster to life in a home, and also may be required in some cases.  We do put the needs of the dog's first, so it is nothing personal if we determine a particular dog isn't suitable for your specific home and living situation. If considering adopting a former breeding dog, the following article is good to read to help you understand the special needs these dogs may have.  http://nowisconsinpuppymills.com/mill-survivors.html If interested in adoption, the first step is filling out the pre-adoption application at http://www.bichonrescues.com/pre-adoption-form-dog  If link isn't clickable, please copy/paste or visit http://www.bichonrescues.com.  Please note, filling out inquiry forms on Petfinder or Adoptapet and/or their application forms does not constitute an application for one of our dogs.  Priority in responding to inquires and applications is always to the applications filled out on our website, time constraints limit the number of other inquires we can reply to. We do our best to evaluate the dogs while they are with us, but they sometimes act different in the shelter environment than they do in a home.  Many times we do not know the actual breed/mix or age of the dog, in that case we use our best guess as to breed and age.   We are located in Mukwonago, WI.  Adopters must come to us, we do not ship our dogs.  Please do not apply for a dog until you are ready to adopt.  Once an application is approved you will be notified by email to make an appointment to meet the dog.  All dogs are seen by appointment only. The adoption fee through Bichon and Little Buddies Rescue is $450 for most adults and up to $650 for puppies which includes Wi State Sales Tax.  Included in this fee is your new companion who will be spayed/neutered, have a current Certificate of Veterinary Inspection (as required by state law), current on age appropriate vaccinations, heartworm tested (if old enough) and started on preventative, microchipped, and given a general wormer.  Other medical needs will also have been taken care of, such as dentals and treating ear infections.  To assist you and your new pet in adjusting to life together, you may chose to take an 8 week age appropriate obedience training course at For Pet's Sake Dog Training in Mukwonago, WI for $75 (up to $230 value).  You may opt to take Puppy Kindergarten, Adult Beginners, or Small Dogs Big Hearts.  You must register for the class within 90 days of adoption for the reduced fee.  For more information on the classes visit www.forpetssake.cc  More important information: ***We are a Wisconsin based rescue and do not ship our pets.  If you are considering adoption you must be willing to drive to meet and adopt the pet, as well as bring the pet back to us if the adoption doesn't work.  We adopt primarily in WI and IL, but will consider applicants in MN, IA, and MI.*** ***Please do not set up an appointment to meet the animals until you are ready to take your pet home.  If the meeting results in a match, you can often take the dog/cat home the same day or within a couple days if the medical care hasn't been completed.  We are not able to hold pets for adopters beyond this time.  Thanks for understanding.*** ***While we hope all of our adoptions lead to permanent homes for the animals we place, sometimes things just don't work out.  We do have a 30 day trial period.  For the first 30 days, if you or Bichon and Little Buddies decide that the adoption isn't a good match for either the humans or the pet, the adoption fee will be refunded minus $75 within 30 days of the return of the dog.  Bichon and Little Buddies also requires adopters to return the pet to us at any time that they are unable or unwilling to care for the animal anymore.*** ***We do not show dogs without an appointment.  The first step in adoption is filling out the pre-adoption application at http://www.bichonrescues.com/pre-adoption-form-dog  Please do not call/email until AFTER you have filled out an application.*** Bichon and Little Buddies is a State Licensed Rescue # 268555-DS August 18, 2024, 2:40 pm

About Me: Name: Kobe Breed (or best guess): Shih Tzu Approximate Age: 4 yr Gender: Male Approximate Weight: 13 lb Adoption Fee: $450 Requirements: Patient adopter Why In Rescue: owner surrender Profile:  Koby was surrendered with a number of other dogs when his owner lost their home.  Koby takes awhile to get to know new people, and is adjusting to life at the shelter.  He has another small female dog as his friend, he isn't super playful with the other dog, but seems to like the company of another dog.  He doesn't love getting groomed, especially his face, so he will need work with that (and a patient groomer).  He has been neutered and had his teeth cleaned as well as vet care updated.  He is a funny guy and will pounce towards you to play, and sometimes you will catch him chasing his tail, but mostly he is happy to lay in his bed and chill out.  He isn't use to walking on a leash so a fenced yard would be best.  If you think you may have just the right home for Koby, please fill out the pre-adoption application. We do put the needs of the dog's first, so it is nothing personal if we determine a particular dog isn't suitable for your specific home and living situation. Story
Meet Kronk! Oh! Well, hello there, my name is Kronk, and I'm so pleased to meet you. I was recently brought in to animal control as a golden oldie, and I was one hot mess! I needed to be shaved down because I was so matted. I'm working on getting my skin healthy, so I'm not quite so itchy anymore. I'm just a little guy, at 16 pounds, and I need to gain a few pounds. I love food, though, even if I do need the flavors switched up once in a while. Who wants to eat the same thing day after day anyway? I get along with other dogs quite well, and I go outside to potty. I haven't met any kids or cats, but I love humans, and if you have older, teen aged kids, I could live with them. I found out that I'm what they call blind, and I don't hear so well anymore, so little kiddos might be a little much for me. Being that I'm older, I have a bit of a wonky gait, so I take some meds for arthritis, whatever that is. I'm really good about taking my meds, and that includes the ones I take to keep my eyes clean! Foster mom says I'm the bestest boy! I really enjoy wandering in the fenced-in yard here in my foster home. It lets me use my sniffer, and it keeps me safe at the same time. Even though I can't see a darn thing, that doesn't stop me from always being able to find my human if they're in a different room. I really like being close to my people, especially if that means I'll get pet by them! I would make a good snuggle buddy, too! Now I'm just looking for my forever home with my forever people. I hope you have a lap that need to be kept warm! *Kronk is being fostered in the Green Bay area. Albert's Dog Lounge is a specialty rescue focusing primarily on senior and special needs dogs. Story
Meet Augy! Hello friends! I’m an affectionate 12 lb senior Shitzu mix that’s looking for a home to call my own. I’m a bit unsure about cats, but am friendly with other dogs and love the company of adults. I have great house manners, potty outside and am trusted to free roam when I’m home alone. I am also great on a leash, walking outdoors lets me strut my stuff! I’m happy to be silly and play with toys and explore a yard, but when it’s time to relax my expert cuddling skills really shine. Though I have quite a zest for life, I was once a stray and found after being attacked by another dog. I lost an eye in that scuffle and my remaining eye has some cataracts, but it doesn’t slow me down much at all! Because of my vision, I should live in an adults only home and would prefer a home without stairs (or a home willing to carry me up and down the stairs). I’ve lost a few teeth and have a bit of a sensitive tummy, so I’d prefer a soft diet and supplements to keep me healthy. I’m more than just a cute face, I’m happy to show you I’m a cuddle champion as well! I am ready for my next chapter and a forever home that will spoil me like the treasured pet I am. Are you ready for some quality cuddles?! Augy is located in the Appleton area Albert's Dog Lounge is a specialty rescue focusing primarily on senior and special needs dogs. Meet Haku! Breed: Shih tzu Age: 5 Weight: 19 pounds (but looking to lose a couple pounds) Good with: Dog and cat friendly, kids should be respectful and calm Houstrained: almost! Crate trained: Haven’t tried one, I snooze while you are away Special needs: mill pup, needs a calm and patient home to show him how to be a dog I’m a handsome pup who is just as sweet as I am cute! I am gentle and calm and love asking for pets and cuddles. Living in a home is new to me, I’m adjusting to a potty schedule and looking for a quiet home to help bring me out of my shell. I am working on my leash skills, so a fenced in yard would be ideal so that I can explore and potty safely. I’m getting curious about treats and toys, is your home a safe place for me to learn how to be a loved family member? *Haku is being fostered in Waukesha, WI.
