n the last couple months we have seen an increase of FeLV+cats. This is from 2 separate home on different sides of Elkhorn and then a home in Whitewater. What is FeLV? The technical name is Feline Leukemia Virus. Like FIV it can weaken the cat's immune system and shorten their life. Is FeLV contagious to other cats? Yes it is! It's easily transmissible between cats by saliva - grooming each other, sharing the same dishes. Cats that are positive are looking for a home with no other felines. They are able to live with other animals such as dogs. **There's a vaccine that may help the current cat in the home but you would need to reach out to your veterinary to discuss this.Best placement for FeLV kitties? ·Someone able to keep the cat indoors only·Taken to regular checkups - maybe even more than normalHow long can they live? Cats can live anywhere between 2-5 years, maybe even longer. It's not something the shelter sees often. Strangely we see more FIV cats enter our shelter. Paula Birthday: September 16th, 2023 Sex: Spayed Female  Breed: Domestic Shorthair Traits: Good with adults that have experience with cats, unknown with dogs Fee: $150 . She comes vet checked, spayed/neutered, microchipped, vaccinated and dewormed! About Me : Paula was found living under a friend of the rescues 4 seasons room. Once we caught her, we quickly realized she was definitely someone's pet at some point as she was very friendly towards other people. No owners ever came forward around that area. Paula is very nice 95% of the time, but sometimes if you over stimulate her she will turn around and nip. We think that someone had her and did not like this about her and put her outside. She was very skinny outside and wasn't doing well and she really does enjoy people, but she is a princess and you gotta follow her rules.  She does not like other cats so far while in our care. Paula is very food motivated and treats and food will make her your best friend. We have had 2 vets look at her and one said she is 1 year old, and the other vet said she was under a year old. We understand she is a pretty cat, but she is going to need a very special and understanding home. We want to make sure wherever she goes will follow her rules so this doesn't happen again to her. She will need to go to a home without children or other cats. Probably not dogs either, but we have not had any dogs around Paula yet. Alexa was found as a local stray that was TNR'd and released by another group despite having an unusable and painful back leg. When we received her, we immediately scheduled an appointment for amputation so she could live a painfree life. Alexa is a sweet, curious girl who is doing really well adjusting to having 3-legs.
