Story
Christmas came into rescue Christmas 2023. She was kept on a chain with no minimal food, no water and no shelter. Before that she was kept in a dirt floor basement. She weighed 27 lbs on intake and was totally matted and had to be shaved down. She is approx 2 years old and 45 lbs. She is a sweet girl who is active and mouthy like many poodles. She needs an experienced standard poodle owner. One that is familiar with her groomng needs, energy level and being mouthy. She loves to sit in your lap and would like to be a lap dog! She has learned to sit and wait for her food. She is crazy about eating (understandably) and needs to eat by herself. She gets along fine with the dogs, however she is very active and some dogs don't like that. She never got to be a puppy and learn proper dog manners. She is a quick leaner and with the right owner will be a fantastic pet. She needs a 6' fence and stays in a 5x5 kennel when the foster is not home. She does ok in a crate at our adoption events. She loves toys and bones! Walking well on a leash. Freds Mission Rescue has an adoption radius of 100 miles from Cincinnati. All dogs are fully vetted, altered, current on flea/tick/heartworm/wormer, and microchipped. The rescue does not adopt out to properties with invisible fences or tie outs. Story
Marcel is a 2.5-year-old, 45-pound standard poodle who was born and raised in an Amish puppy mill. His early life was far from ideal, as he spent his beginning in a confined and stressful environment, used solely for breeding. Despite these tough beginnings, Marcel's gentle nature has always shone through. He is skittish, a trait shaped by his limited exposure to the outside world and human interaction. Loud noises and sudden movements can easily startle him, but beneath this nervous exterior lies a sweet and loving soul. With a soft touch and kind words, Marcel quickly warms up, revealing his gentle disposition. Marcel is making significant strides in his new life outside the mill. He is adapting well to crate training, finding a sense of security in his own space, and is house broken. This small, safe haven helps him feel more comfortable as he learns about the world around him. Every day, Marcel shows progress. He follows his foster mom around the house and even rested his chin on her knee for pets. With patience and care, he is slowly discovering the joys of being a cherished pet rather than a breeding dog. His journey is one of resilience and hope as he learns to trust, love, and be loved in return. Marcel is fostered in the Cincinnati, OH area. His adoption fee is $450.00. Story
Meet Umbra! She's a one-year-old, 33lb standard poodle. Umbra was found as a stray, severely underweight, and with matted fur, suggesting she had never been groomed in her life. Her very puppy-like behavior indicates she has not been well-socialized. Umbra enjoys in the company of dogs of all sizes and ages in her foster home, where she's learning the ropes and embracing the companionship. As she continues to adapt to her foster home, she is learning the joy of playing with toys and romping in the yard with her canine friends. She very much enjoys playing fetch with tennis balls. Umbra also enjoys being as close to her human as possible. While she's already comfortable with both women and men, she hasn't had the chance to interact with children or cats. Umbra is currently working on learning manners. She's very affectionate and will invade your personal space to show her love, but she responds well to redirection. With medium to high energy, Umbra would thrive in an active household where she can burn off her puppy energy. She does well in a crate and is doing great with potty training. Umbra already knows how to sit and shake, walks well on a leash, and with consistent structure and training, she will blossom into an amazing dog. Umbra is fostered in Liberty Township, OH. Her adoption fee is $450.00.
