Story
Apply to Adopt Me! Willard has been with our rescue for almost 2 years! He is wondering if there is anyone out there who will give him his forever home.  Willard is a 6-year-old Walker Hound mix that weighs 52 pounds. When Willard came to Lil Rascals almost two years ago, he was paralyzed in his back legs, had infected sores and wounds, an untreated UTI, and was emaciated, weighing less than 40 lbs. His owners at the time said he had sudden onset paralysis 5 months prior, took him to UF where surgery was performed on his spine. The surgery did not help him, so his owners rightfully began taking him to rehab. But they soon abandoned rehab for him because they no longer had the time and he sadly reverted to where he was. Lil Rascals got him back into rehab right away, where he had to start all over with therapy, this time weekly. He has not only gained strength, muscle mass and mobility, but he has also gotten joy back in his life. He now has a cart which has given him mobility again. He is a sweet boy that always wants to be near his person. He loves taking naps under the desk while his foster moms work. He lets you know when he has to go out with a distinct vocal bark. He is incontinent and has accidents so he wears a belly band. His favorite thing is going outside with his “wheels!”  He can go anywhere in his wheels and loves to go on walks and even runs sometimes. He attempts to bear weight on his back legs but he can not use them to walk. Willard enjoys car rides and meeting new people. He’s been around multiple cats and both small and medium-sized dogs and gets along great with them. He’s always ready to eat and takes daily probiotics. He enjoys busy bones like yak chews and bully sticks. He currently takes medication but the vet has been decreasing those. He loves hugs and attention but is also content to lie on his bed beside you and nap. Willard needs a family who will love and spoil him but be sympathetic to his special needs. He will need to continue to attend weekly rehab therapy so he doesn’t decline, but he is definitely making progress. He needs a home without a pool or stairs, and a home where someone can be home with him most of the time. If you think you can give this special boy a special home, please complete Willard's app and tell us more about your family. January 3, 2025, 7:37 pm

Story
Maggie is around the 11 month age range and was found as a stray with her siblings! She's very sweet, cute and the biggest sock thief around! Incredibly affectionate but also very energetic and needs lots of attention. She hasn't gotten along the best with my resident dog, however. Outside the apartment, they're best friends and love to play together but inside the apartment, Maggie doesn't care about her most times until resident dog has a toy, then Maggie needs to take it. This bullying turned into (what I believe to be) resource guarding outburst where she snapped at my other dog and tried to fight her over toys. It happens at the most random times and usually never happens but we've also been watching her like a hawk. Because of this, I believe she'd be best in a one dog household or an experienced household. Again, its not aggression and I believe this behavior could be worked through, I just don't have the time, money or commitment to get said necessary help. She's a great pup!

Story
Luna needs a family that loves to include their dog in adventures. She was born in Maine and came with me to Florida when she was 1. She doesn’t do well cooper up in the house all day, she needs a lot of exercise. If not, she will find her own sources of entertainment like hunting for food scraps in the kitchen, or sleeping somewhere if she’s tired enough. She can be a cuddle bug, she loves to give hugs. She’s afraid of loud noises like smoke detectors, oven timers, and any kind of smoke. She and I both endured an abusive home, so she has her own quirks. She needs someone who can giver her all the adventure she deserves, she makes a great protector as well. She knows “look at me” to get her attention, “wait” while you’re getting her food and “get your breakfast/dinner” as her release command. She can catch things in her mouth, and she’s great at finding things you want her to search for. Despite her breed, she’s never assisted in hunting. She’s just a love bug who loves to chase things

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Duke is a very sweet dog, who needs a quiet household. It takes him a while to become acclimated to new people. He is currently in a foster home with a wonderful man who came to visit him here at the shelter multiple times to spend some time with him before he was ready to take him home. Duke is very happy in his home and loves to explore the yard. He has discovered that Duke does not like to be left alone for very long. He does not tear things up or destroy anything, he just gets nervous and shakes when he's alone for an extended period of time. We would like his permanent home to have someone home most of the time (work from home or retired) to keep him company during the day. Since he does not do well meeting new people he should not be walked in a busy community where strangers might want to come up and pet him. He will either need a backyard where he can safely run and play or live somewhere there is minimal walking traffic. Duke is a good dog and it is definitely worth the extra time it takes to get to know him :)  Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.November 5, 2024, 2:38 pm
