Story
One Sweet Dog. One Treatable Condition. Meet Shoney. Shoney is approximated to be a 6-year-old, 43-pound beauty with a heart of gold (and unfortunately, heartworms too—but more on that below). Big news! Abby and Amie have both headed off on separate trial adoptions! Join us in wishing these two sweet girls the very best as they begin this exciting new chapter. We’re keeping our paws crossed for happy tails! She’s as sweet as can be, and we can’t wait to share more about her as we get to know her better. If you notice the marking on Shoney’s side, that’s not just a patch of fur—it’s a brand. At some point in her past, someone used a hot iron to mark her. It’s heartbreaking to think about what she’s been through, but what matters now is that she’s safe, loved, and on a new path to a better life. We’re so grateful to be part of her journey. She’s gentle, loving, and social—great with other dogs, adores people, and even gives cats their space. Her warm, kind eyes say it all: she’s ready for a second chance. Let’s Talk Heartworms. Heartworms are transmitted through mosquito bites and live in the heart and lungs. If left untreated, they can be serious—but the good news is that heartworms are treatable, and many dogs go through treatment successfully. Treatment typically includes a course of antibiotics and a series of injections to kill the adult worms. During this time, dogs need to stay calm and have their activity restricted to help reduce the risk of complications—but they can still enjoy lots of love and snuggles along the way. Why you shouldn’t be afraid to adopt a heartworm-positive dog: • Shoney will see the vet tomorrow to start her care plan. • Hound Rescue will continue to pay for her heartworm treatment at Emancipet in Austin, even after she’s adopted. Shoney is currently being fostered in Georgetown, Texas, and she was recently gifted a DNA test—we can’t wait to find out more about her unique mix! Let’s find this beautiful girl the home she deserves.

Story
Henry is a 10–12 month old, 28 lb beagle mix with a bouncy, playful personality and a big heart. He’s healthy, recently neutered, and heartworm negative. Henry is very affectionate—he loves to be pet, enjoys toys, and happily chases them when thrown. He gets along well with other dogs and is good with cats, but he’s still learning not to jump up when excited, so a home without small children would be best. He’s working on potty training and leash manners and will continue to thrive with structure, patience, and routine. Henry is treat-motivated, eager to please, and ready to become the best boy in the right home.
