Story
Apply to Adopt Me! Peanut Butter is the sweetest girl! This 5yo, 7.6 lb. Chiweenie is very timid at first and will need time to get to know you before she will commit to being your friend. But once she does, she is your bestie! She favors women, is skittish around men and may never warm up to a male in the home (did not after 4 years), so for that reason we are adopting her to an all-female home only. She loves to cuddle in the human bed at night (this is a must for her) and sleeps all through the night under the covers. With her short legs, she will need stairs or a ramp onto the bed and couch. She is house trained and loves, loves her daily walks, doing a happy dance when the harness and leash come out. She enjoys her brisk walks, except to stop and sniff, and is energized when she sees a squirrel teasing her. She also loves searching out lizards. She is non-reactive to people and dogs on her walks. Belly rubs are also a favorite. She is dog and cat friendly (ignores a cat), and gains comfort from having another friendly dog (large or small) in the home, so that will be given preference. She loves meal times and getting treats. She cutely stands on her hind legs waiting for her treat. She loves chewing on a Benebone or chew bone. One of her favorite things is sun bathing on the screened-in porch area. She isn’t a big barker, but does bark when she perceives danger. She does well riding in a car in her doggy booster seat. Once she gets used to her new situation and comes out of her shell, she is a happy and fun little dog. She is sad when she is left behind, and cries for a little while, so we are wanting someone for her who is home most of the time. We want a smaller fenced yard for her to run around in, but with her tiny size, it must be totally secure with no gaps where she can squeeze out. Due to her small size, we prefer an all-adult home for her, but if the home has a child, an older respectful child will be considered. Whoever adopts this sweet girl is truly getting a gem. If you live in the Central Florida/Orlando area, match all of her qualifications in this profile, and believe you have the perfect home for Peanut Butter, please complete an app and tell us more about you.  March 12, 2025, 11:26 am

Story
Apply to Adopt Me! Meet Nikky, a loving and affectionate approx. 3yo, 12-lb. female chihuahua mix looking for her forever family where she can soak up all the attention. Nikky is very timid at first, and will need someone who can just let her "be" until she feels settled and comfortable in her new home. Once she gets to know you though, she is a true companion who adores being around people and thrives on love and affection. She has a big heart and plenty of love to give—she just wants a family that will cherish her as much as she cherishes them. She enjoys cuddles, belly rubs and spending quality time with her favorite humans. She is house trained, walks well on a leash, rides well in the car and sleeps through the night. She's not much of a toy gal, but does love a yak chew. Nikky would do best either as the only dog in the household (she prefers to be the center of attention) or if another dog, they have a calm personality and not an in-her-face style. She ignores cats. She would do best in an all-adult home. If you’re looking for a loyal, affectionate and devoted best friend, Nikky may be your perfect match. She’s ready to fill your home with love and happiness—are you ready to make her part of your family? If you live in the Central Florida/Orlando area and believe you have the perfect home for Nikky, please complete an app and tell us more about you. March 15, 2025, 3:06 pm

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. PJ came to PRBJ when his family had to move and they were unable to take him. He is a shy dog that takes some time to warm up to new people. He is not used to being on a leash and is pee pad trained. We are working to get him potty trained outside. Going out with another dog is a big help for him as he tends to imitate.  Due to his nervous behavior, we are recommending an adult only home with someone who is patient and willing to give PJ the time he needs to come out of his little shell.  Foster update: It takes PJ a while to warm up. He was very scared and unsure when he first arrived. We fed him by hand for a couple of days and that helped!  He is also very treat motivated though if he is scared he may not take offered treats.**Since his neuter, he has gone backwards a bit and is not wanting to sit on laps or go outside.   We are working on it! He likes to be close to people but not necessarily to be touched.   He will shriek if you try to pet him when he does not want to be.    We have been working on "touch" training.   We say kiss or touch and he comes up and boops our hand.   His body language is getting better and better with it and even acting a bit playful.  He spooks fairly easily and needs to be on a leash or in a fenced yard as he can slip out of his collar. We recommend a slip leash or harness as he would be very difficult to catch...running away is his first instinct.    He does not like being picked up. He can be very underfoot - on or off leash, so this is something to consider for anyone not steady on their feet. He is not fully housetrained, but is learning the concept of going outside.  Because he does not like the leash we would recommend that he have a home with a fenced yard where he can be let outside to continue on his housetraining.   PJ can tend to get distracted and forget why he is outside so it's best to supervise whether he has gone or not!   His crate is left open when he is not in it and he likes to go lay in it, especially in the evenings before bed time.   His foster home has small and larger dogs and he is not a huge fan of the big dogs if they are running around.    He has been sleeping in a dog bed in the bedroom at night.   We do close the door or he likes to wander.    We have a pee pad in the hallway and some nights he makes it through dry, others he will use the pee pad.     He just had a dental, so his pearly whites are looking good!    Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.March 3, 2025, 9:18 am
