Story
Murphy Joe, rescued on 1/13/24, is an extremely sweet but still a little shy, black and tan, male yorkie born on 3/31/22. He loves to snuggle once you pick him up and he is starting to act playful with his foster mom. He weighed 8.4 pounds on 1/15/24. Due to his small size, he will not be considered for homes with young children. He was neutered, had a small growth removed from his eyelid, and given a dental on 2/9/24. He is up to date on vaccinations, heartworm negative and microchipped. His adoption donation is $800 which includes the $165 transport fee. If you would like to adopt Murphy Joe, please complete the first step in the adoption process by filling out an online adoption application. You can find a copy of that application here. We sometimes receive a lot of interest on an animal and can't always reply to each email in a timely manner. An application does not obligate you to adopt from us, but it does show that you are serious about the adoption process. Please remember we are all volunteers. After you submit your application, please allow a few days for a volunteer to review your application. During this time your vet reference will be checked and a volunteer with determine if it is the best match for you and the animal. Applications are not approved on a first come, first serve basis. We match up the best home for the animal, so even if the pet has other applications, this does not mean he/she will be adopted to that home. Once your application has been approved a volunteer will contact you to set up a phone interview. This is the perfect time for you to ask any questions you have about the adoption process and the animal you are interested in.

Story
We have a wide range of sizes, breeds, and personalities who have been waiting for a long time to find homes in which to live out their lives. All have been vet-checked, spayed/neutered and updated on shots. Some are in great health and hopefully will have many years to enjoy with their new owners... others are being treated for some medical issues and need some extra care to keep them happy and comfortable for whatever time they have left. We do not have a shelter- all our pets are in foster homes and can be seen by appointment only during the week, or at our weekly pet adoptions every Sunday at the Animal Clinic of Morris Plains from 12:30 to 3PM at 3009 Route 10 East next to 5 Star Car Wash (formerly Boulder Car Wash) in Morris Plains (Denville on GPS). To help us better match a pet to your household, we request you fill out an application on our homepage www.secondchance.petfinder.com and copy and paste it into an email, or print it and bring it to our adoption day when you come. Local inquiries only please- we do not do long distance adoptions. Can't adopt but still want to help this dog? Click on the "Sponsor Me" button at the top of this page to donate toward his/her care! All donations are tax-deductible and go directly toward the care of our rescue dogs. Thank you for your support!

Story
Meet Reeses, as in Reese’s Pieces 🍬 When we first met her she was terrified and wanted to rip us to pieces, but give her a few days and she will love you to pieces instead! Nothing is more rewarding than earning the trust of these scared little ones whose instinct is to lash out when scared, and watching their entire personality change once they realize they can trust you. This under 2 year old scruffy yorkie/Shih tzu mix has plenty of reason to be so distrustful. Her owner never socialized her with other people and would go on vacations and leave her alone in her apartment for days at a time. One day she got evicted and just left this scared little girl behind. Luckily authorities found her before it was too late and healthwise she’s just fine. Her emotional trauma from being left alone so much and getting proper socialization as a puppy are much harder to overcome. Once she loves you, there is no better snuggler. If she could somehow melt into you or fuse herself to your lap like some kind of siamese twin she would do it in a heartbeat. Velcro dog isn’t a strong enough term, she’s more like a magnet 🧲 who will do whatever it takes to get to her person. No gate can hold her, she climbs out of any expen, leaps or squeezes through extra tall baby gates (we haven’t witnessed all of her magical escapes, just know she’s always somehow popping up places she’s not supposed to be 😆). Luckily she’s (grudgingly) cratable though not quietly and will need some practice being left alone- it takes her some time screaming out her protests but she does eventually settle and go to sleep. Unless you want to come home and find her walking around on top of your kitchen counter or refrigerator like a cat we definitely recommend sticking with the crate training. Reeses is looking for a patient adult home that will love this crazy little monkey 🙉 flying squirrel 🐿️ cat 🐈 hybrid, for better or worse, and have a sense of humor about her antics and adventurous spirit. Email njwoof@cs.com to meet Reeses in Northern NJ Since COVID-19, we are no longer holding our Sunday adoption events until further notice, but we are scheduling meet and greet appointments with a specific dog or dogs at our meeting spots in Northern NJ. To streamline adoptions, all communication before, during, and after the adoption process is done through email only: we have limited volunteers able to return phone calls. Submit an application from our website www.secondchance.petfinder.com to speed up the adoption process and email any questions to us at njwoof@cs.com. Please check your email regularly for next steps. All our dogs reside in foster care in Northern NJ until adoption and we do not have a central shelter location. We are a small all-volunteer organization focused on rescuing local dogs from area shelters, as well as accepting some surrenders and puppy mill rescues.

Story
Frankie wants you to know he’s enjoying being able to see with the mats trimmed from over his eyes! He’s been neutered so his breeding days are over at last, and needed a bunch of teeth pulled during his dental due to premature decay from his living conditions. He’s under 10lbs, a Yorkiepoo, 3 years old, and shy but inquisitive. He loves the ladies and is looking for a calmer adult home with at least one other compatible doggie friend in the household. He was rescued from a puppy mill so walking on leash, housebreaking, and living in a real home are all foreign concepts to him right now and he will need some patience as he adjusts. Email njwoof@cs.com to meet him in Northern NJ Since COVID-19, we are no longer holding our Sunday adoption events until further notice, but we are scheduling meet and greet appointments with a specific dog or dogs at our meeting spots in Northern NJ. Story
Meet Rex! This cute 18 month old Yorkie mix was surrendered because his owners were moving that day and couldn’t take him. He can be a little nervous at first but bonds quickly and is a sweet guy once he’s comfortable. He is fine with other small dogs, was used to wee wee pads as well as going outside, walks nicely on a leash and asks to be picked up. He looks like mostly Yorkie, under 10lbs full grown but with more of a wiry terrier coat and unique coloring. Please email njwoof@cs.com to meet Rex in Northern NJ Since COVID-19, we are no longer holding our Sunday adoption events until further notice, but we are scheduling meet and greet appointments with a specific dog or dogs at our meeting spots in Northern NJ. Story
This adorable scruffy guy is Hermes, a 1-2 year old Yorkie/terrier mix. He was running loose and pretty freaked out; animal control used a snare pole to catch him which freaked him out even more but once he recovered from that trauma he’s been a pretty nice friendly guy with people and dogs and picks up a routine pretty quickly. He’s about 10lbs full grown, neutered, updated on shots, and hoping to find a responsible loving home where he will be kept safe and secure for life. Story
Zee, a working girl that was recently retired, is a precious little female Maltese that LOVES to snuggle. Her date of birth is 5/15/19. She was obese when rescued and needed to lose a couple of pounds before her spay so that it would be less traumatic for her. She is now spayed, up to date on vaccinations, heartworm negative, had a dental and is microchipped. On 7/1/24 she weighed 10.4 pounds which is a healthy weight for her. Zee is being fostered in Arkansas. Her adoption donation is $1000 plus an additional $165 transport fee. She can walk on a leash but much prefers to be carried, like the little diva that she is. If you would like to give this little girl a fairytale retirement forever home, please complete the first step in the adoption process by filling out an online adoption application. You can find a copy of that application here. We sometimes receive a lot of interest on an animal and can't always reply to each email in a timely manner.
