Story
Leo and Piper 6 years old 11 and 9 pounds Leo is good with dogs and loves to play Piper is calm and is a little possessive of her home. Leo has a playful heart and wants to fetch and play with his BALL constantly. After several throws, he may get tired and hide his ball so that he can rest. Leo is such a good boy and needs attention that he no longer gets since all of the children have grown up and moved away. He has an ear that always stands at attention and is slightly larger than the average Yorkie weighing in at about 11 lbs. Piper is calm and loving compared to Leo...who is energetic. She prefers to cuddle, snuggle and be petted. She is eager to find a bed to lie on, preferably on top the highest pillow, and will be devoted to her human forever. Piper is the smaller of the two being around 9 Ibs and takes on more of the traditional Yorkie look. Despite their separate demeanors, it is preferred that they remain together for they have never been separated. They both walk well on a leash and we will only adopt them to the same home...we will NOT separate. Story
We have a wide range of sizes, breeds, and personalities who have been waiting for a long time to find homes in which to live out their lives. All have been vet-checked, spayed/neutered and updated on shots. Some are in great health and hopefully will have many years to enjoy with their new owners... others are being treated for some medical issues and need some extra care to keep them happy and comfortable for whatever time they have left. We do not have a shelter- all our pets are in foster homes and can be seen by appointment only during the week, or at our weekly pet adoptions every Sunday at the Animal Clinic of Morris Plains from 12:30 to 3PM at 3009 Route 10 East next to 5 Star Car Wash (formerly Boulder Car Wash) in Morris Plains (Denville on GPS). To help us better match a pet to your household, we request you fill out an application on our homepage www.secondchance.petfinder.com and copy and paste it into an email, or print it and bring it to our adoption day when you come. Local inquiries only please- we do not do long distance adoptions. Can't adopt but still want to help this dog? Click on the "Sponsor Me" button at the top of this page to donate toward his/her care! All donations are tax-deductible and go directly toward the care of our rescue dogs. Thank you for your support!

Story
Meet Reeses, as in Reese’s Pieces 🍬 When we first met her she was terrified and wanted to rip us to pieces, but give her a few days and she will love you to pieces instead! Nothing is more rewarding than earning the trust of these scared little ones whose instinct is to lash out when scared, and watching their entire personality change once they realize they can trust you. This under 2 year old scruffy yorkie/Shih tzu mix has plenty of reason to be so distrustful. Her owner never socialized her with other people and would go on vacations and leave her alone in her apartment for days at a time. One day she got evicted and just left this scared little girl behind. Luckily authorities found her before it was too late and healthwise she’s just fine. Her emotional trauma from being left alone so much and getting proper socialization as a puppy are much harder to overcome. Once she loves you, there is no better snuggler. If she could somehow melt into you or fuse herself to your lap like some kind of siamese twin she would do it in a heartbeat. Velcro dog isn’t a strong enough term, she’s more like a magnet 🧲 who will do whatever it takes to get to her person. No gate can hold her, she climbs out of any expen, leaps or squeezes through extra tall baby gates (we haven’t witnessed all of her magical escapes, just know she’s always somehow popping up places she’s not supposed to be 😆). Luckily she’s (grudgingly) cratable though not quietly and will need some practice being left alone- it takes her some time screaming out her protests but she does eventually settle and go to sleep. Unless you want to come home and find her walking around on top of your kitchen counter or refrigerator like a cat we definitely recommend sticking with the crate training. Reeses is looking for a patient adult home that will love this crazy little monkey 🙉 flying squirrel 🐿️ cat 🐈 hybrid, for better or worse, and have a sense of humor about her antics and adventurous spirit. Email njwoof@cs.com to meet Reeses in Northern NJ Since COVID-19, we are no longer holding our Sunday adoption events until further notice, but we are scheduling meet and greet appointments with a specific dog or dogs at our meeting spots in Northern NJ. To streamline adoptions, all communication before, during, and after the adoption process is done through email only: we have limited volunteers able to return phone calls. Submit an application from our website www.secondchance.petfinder.com to speed up the adoption process and email any questions to us at njwoof@cs.com. Please check your email regularly for next steps. All our dogs reside in foster care in Northern NJ until adoption and we do not have a central shelter location. We are a small all-volunteer organization focused on rescuing local dogs from area shelters, as well as accepting some surrenders and puppy mill rescues.

Story
Meet Benji! This aptly named little senior terrier is at least 13 but still has some spunk and was probably quite the little hellion in his youth. He’s friendly and craves attention, isn’t happy being crated or gated away from the action and demands to be around his people. His teeth were rotting and he only had 6 remaining after his long overdue dental. He’s 11lbs and some kind of Yorkie mixed with maybe Pom or Papillon? He has an unusual thick double coat and not the non-shedding Yorkie hair, but he’s extra soft. He’s a happy little one who likes his walks, has a good appetite and is in pretty good shape for an old man. He’s ok with some small dogs and even a bit of a flirt with the ladies even though he’s been long neutered. A cute little companion for a senior-lover who doesn’t want a blobby slow old man who just naps all the time and still has that terrier energy to keep him young a few more years. Story
Meet Lilo. She’s terrified of life. This little senior Yorkie was one of 3 living outside in an inner city after a life of being used for breeding. She’s warm and safe now, but she was the most terrified and shut down of the 3 and doesn’t seem to understand she’s safe just yet. She likely wasn’t handled much if at all and human hands cause her to panic and cower, and sometimes snap if people move too quickly with her. She loves other dogs and follows and hides behind them for comfort. She’s been spayed and had a dental, and medically was in the best shape of the bunch, probably 8-10 years old and under 8lbs. Lilo will need a calm patient adult home with at least one other little doggie friend to follow and learn from, and someone who will accept and give her time and space to learn how to bond to humans, likely for the first time. Email njwoof@cs.com to meet Lilo in Northern NJ Since COVID-19, we are no longer holding our Sunday adoption events until further notice, but we are scheduling meet and greet appointments with a specific dog or dogs at our meeting spots in Northern NJ. Story
This handsome little fellow is Roman! He is a 8 month old male Yorkie Chihuahua mix. He is expected to be under 25lbs when he is full grown. He is super friendly and is very social. He loves to snuggle and wants to be with you at all times. He still has lots of puppy energy and loves to romp and play. He is such a little lover and he never turns down a good belly rub. He would make the perfect lap dog! Although he is great with children, due to his small size we are not comfortable placing him in a home with children under the age of 7. He would make a great addition to just about any family! He is currently located down South at our sister shelters and available for pre-adoption. We do transports to NJ once a month. He can't wait to find his forever home!
