Story
Dakota is a handsome name, kind of a "rugged" kind of name, right?? I am kind of a REFINED RUGGED kind of boy! For instance, I am a busy boy, I love playing and running with my doggy friends, however, I can lay at your feet very sweetly to beg for your attention. I am kind of like a "reverse" planter as well. I mean, you plant it and i will un-plant it for you :D I won't do it often, just when I want your attention and I am outside alone. So see?? you have great control over that urge! So I am a food and toy lover too, I eat out of a slow feeder bowl because wolfing down my food is not an option! I am learning all things toys and am actually learning how to bring the ball BACK after you throw it. I am a smart and very sweet boy. I do absolutely have a prey drive so no kitties for small furry mammals around me please. I am fully potty trained and great in a crate. Now i just need you to adopt me to complete my circle of life. Local adoption fee is $200 (in TX) Out of state adoption fee is $450 (includes transport to your area)

Story
Meet Lily!Lily is a stunning 3-year-old, 63-pound Akita mix with striking blue eyes and a heart full of love. Found as a stray, she was struggling to care for her own puppies and a few other newborns that had been left with her. Despite her tough start, Lily has shown nothing but sweetness and incredible maternal care. This gentle girl is wonderfully patient—she even allowed her temporary foster to give her a bath without any fuss! Lily knows how to walk on a leash and waits patiently for her walks to do her business, making her an easy companion.Lily is ready to leave her challenging past behind and find a forever home where she can be cherished for the amazing dog she is. Could Lily be the one for you?IMPORTANT: Please read all below, especially if you live outside of Texas, which is where our rescue is located.Apply to adopt on our website: https://www.charmingpetrescue.org/adoptAll of our animals are spayed/neutered, microchipped, and up to date on shots.ALL of our animals are located in Boerne, TX, but transport after adoption is available to other states for a $300 fee for dogs or an additional fee varying by location for cats. If you are seeing our pets posted in your state, that's because you live near a transport stop, they are not currently at that location. Petfinder lists our pets as 'Out of Town' pets at other locations, and Adopt-a-Pet lists our location as a Transport stop. Those are currently the only options they offer to make this clear, so we put this description we've put at the bottom to explain it. You can read more about transport here: www.charmingpetrescue.org/transportWe understand transport is not an option for everyone, but we offer it at the cost we pay the transport company for those who wish to adopt from us.January 9, 2025, 10:17 pm

Story
Cash is a 9-month-old husky bursting with energy, charm, and personality. True to his breed, he’s vocal and loves to chat about whatever is on his mind, so he’s better suited to a home where neighbors won’t mind his chatter. This playful guy absolutely adores people and is eager to be everyone’s new best friend. While he hasn’t had much experience with other dogs, his enthusiasm to meet and play is clear—though his exuberance might be a bit much for some pups (teenagers, right?). Cash hasn’t been around kids, so we don’t know how he’ll do with them. Because of his high energy and playful nature, we recommend a home with kids 12 and up. He isn’t house trained yet, but he’s a smart boy who will thrive with structure, training, and patience. Like most huskies, he has lots of energy to burn and will need an active home ready to keep him mentally and physically engaged. If you’re looking for a goofy, loving companion and are ready to dedicate time to his training, Cash might be the perfect match for you! If you're ready to adopt now and want to learn more about, meet, or adopt this pet, you can start the process in one of two ways: Come on in during open adoption hours Tuesday - Saturday 12:30-3:00! For in-shelter pets (not in foster care) coming in ASAP is the fastest way to adopt. **the below two methods are slower than visiting us** Call us (413-781-4000 x 1) or email us (springfield@dakinhumane.org) for more information about a pet. We are often on the line with another client, but we return voice mail and emails within 24 hours. All adult dog adoption fees include; -spay/neuter -rabies and kennel cough vaccinations - heartworm test -current parvo/distemper vaccines (may need additional boosters with your veterinarian) -microchip implanted & registered to adopter

Story
Balto is a social guy who loves to snuggle in for pats when he's in the mood! He loves to investigate his environment and would likely be a great candidate for scent work sports. He gets along with other dogs and likes to chase toys, though he doesn't quite know how to bring them back yet. OTHER PETS: Balto has gotten along with other dogs while here at TJO, and has been tolerant of being jumped on and even other dogs bumping into him during play. While he hasn't initiated play on his own yet, he would likely get along with another dog in the home. [Likely (Must Meet First)] OWNER EXPERIENCE: Huskies are notorious for finding ways out of things meant to contain them. Someone who has experience with huskies or high energy, independent thinkers, would be best suited to ensure Balto has awesome adventures for the remainder of his life. [Some Experience] KIDS: Balto is uncomfortable with some types of handling and can be jumpy with people, so he would likely fit best in a home with kids who are old enough to understand how to interact with him and won't be knocked over easily. [12+ (Must Meet First)] ACTIVITY LEVEL: Huskies are high energy dogs that need both physical exercise and mental stimulation daily. Balto is no exception, and will need healthy ways to channel his energy--including mental enrichment--to ensure that he does not create his own entertainment. Some activities Balto might enjoy are: multiple daily walks, hiking, puzzle boxes, treat puzzles, or even dog sports. Due to his investigative personality, we think he would be a great candidate for scent work specifically! [Good Walking Buddy] VETERINARY CARE: [Routine] LEVEL OF TRAINING NEEDED: Balto can be jumpy and often pulls at the end of the leash. Depending on his new family's preferences, he may need help learning how to walk loosely on leash and greet people from the ground. Positive reinforcement training will help Balto with not only learning his basic cues & skills, but also help him to bond with his new owner. Like most dogs he would likely be a good candidate for scent work, a satisfying outlet for dogs' need to sniff and learn about the world around them. [Minimal / Moderate] GROOMING: Regular brushing will help keep Baltoâ&#194&#128&#194&#153s coat clean and matt-free-- huskies blow their coats twice a year, and many owners choose to have a professional groomer help with the extra shedding.
