Story
Meet Akira, she is a 1-1/2 year old spayed female Akita (around 90 lb) looking for a new home. She is a wonderful dog that gets along well with both male boxer dogs in my home. She has good manors and is a very quick learner. Walks very well with both of my other dogs, side by side. Excitable during play but does very well sharing toys with other dogs. No resource or food guarding of any kind. Have not seen her interact with children but would not suggest her in a home with small children under 12. Does well with grooming, nail trimming/brushing. She loves car rides and going places like parks or to the pet store. Unfortunately i'm going thru a divorce and will not be able to have three dogs in new living arrangement. Ideally she would do best in a home without children under 12 and spoiled on her own or with a dog(s) of same age and energy level. I do walk/run her 5-10 miles a day currently so she should be with an owner who is also very active and has previously owned an Akita.

Story
Meet Tormund! THRIVING IN FOSTER! LOVES PEOPLE, PUPS & THE SNOW!! BIG TEDDY BEAR! This delightfully unique Akita/boxer boy is three years old and is 80 pounds of goofy goodness! He is enjoying some time away from the kennel with an amazing foster family! From the moment you meet him, Tormund will have you smiling ear to ear! He is having the best time hanging with his foster fur brother and would love another canine companion in his new home (though it's not a requirement). When he's not wrestling with his brother, you can find him with his favorite jolly ball in a game of fetch! Tormund is also a fan of squeaky toys and his foster parents are able to take toys/food away with no issue. Not only is Tormund one handsome dude, he's very smart and had learned several commands including sit, come, stay, and shake. Tormund is a very affectionate fellow and is always seeking out all the love he can get. He is a fan of laying his head gently in your lap for some well-deserved pets. Let's not forget those belly rubs! He's also house-trained and is eager to please. As you can see by his pictures, this dude lives to play outside! Tormund will need a very active family that will commit to daily exercise/walks. He takes every opportunity he can to romp in the snow (check out the video!) and is an absolute joy to hang with! If you're a lover of winter sports, you've found your furry companion! Tormund does have a prey drive so a nice, fenced-in yard is essential to keep him safe while giving him a chance to explore. This also means a home free of cats or small animals is best for him. Tormund rides well in the car and is ready to accompany you on all of your adventures! He has shown lots of improvement on leash and will need a capable handler who will continue his progress. Working from home? Tormund is the best coworker! After his daily walk, he relaxes by lounging on the couch. At the end of a fun-filled day, he sleeps quietly on the floor in the bedroom. Though he is capable of being crated, he is admittedly not a fan and his new family will need to work with him to find the best method for when they leave the house. Based on our evaluation, we feel Tormund will do well in an active home with adults or families with kids ages eight and up. He may have the potential to live with other animals as he has done well with his fur foster brother. We are happy to do a meet and greet with your family fur baby. If you he could be the pup you've been searching for, please visit greatlakesdogrescue.com and submit an application for our terrific Tormund today!

Now, she’s ready for her next big journey—finding a loving home where she can finally settle down and learn what it’s like to be part of a family. With her friendly nature, she gets along great with both dogs and cats and is as sweet as they come! After spending so long out in the world, Louella is looking for a home with a 6-foot privacy fence or someone who will keep her on a leash until she’s feeling secure. She’s an explorer at heart but is now ready to trade her solo travels for cozy nights and walks with her humans. She needs a patient, loving family to help her transition into indoor life and ensure she never has to run away again. Louella’s journey has been filled with twists and turns, but now, with your help, she’s ready for the greatest adventure of all—finding her forever home! Will you be the one to give this sweet explorer a place to call her own? Adoption is $275, which includes spay/neuter at our vet, vaccines, dewormer, microchip, and clean bill of health. Story
Meet Mike Wazowski aka Mike! Don’t worry — these little Monsters are more about cuddles than scares! Meet the Monsters, Inc. litter, a group of playful, lovable, and totally adorable husky mix puppies named after your favorite characters from the beloved movie. These little loveable “scare” experts are ready to bring joy, laughter, and plenty of puppy kisses into your life. But be warned—once you meet them, your heart will be monstrously full! Mikey is the ultimate cuddle monster with a playful, athletic side! This affectionate, snuggly pup loves nothing more than being part of the pack, whether that means wrestling with his dog friends, chewing on his favorite bone, or sneaking in for extra pets and kisses from his humans. With moderate energy, he enjoys a good mix of playtime and snuggles, making him the perfect companion for an active yet loving home. If you’re looking for a pup who will keep you entertained, keep you moving, and always be there for cuddles, Mikey is your guy! He’s food-motivated and making great progress with potty training, plus he’s already a crate pro, settling in and sleeping through the night like a champ. Mikey gets along well with other dogs. He has not met cats or children, but we think that he would do well with older children who are experienced with dogs, and could co-exist with a cat given proper introduction. Mike needs a home where he can continue to build confidence with patient guidance and plenty of love. Adoption is $325, which includes spay/neuter at our vet when age appropriate, vaccines to date of adoption, dewormer, microchip, and clean bill of health. Celia is the perfect mix of calm, cuddly, and independent — a pup who enjoys both playtime and quiet moments on her own. Whether she’s wrestling with her dog friends, chewing on her favorite bone, or exploring the great outdoors, especially in the snow, Celia knows how to have a good time! She’s a quick learner who is already making great progress with potty training, especially since she’s highly food motivated. At night, she’s a crate champion, settling in and sleeping through until morning. Celia is friendly with other dogs and enjoys having playmates but is also perfectly happy doing her own thing. She has not met cats or children, but we think that she would do well with children who are experienced with dogs, and could co-exist with a cat given proper introduction.
