This handsome boy with the big brown eyes is Orión. He is a one year old 34 pound Alaskan husky that arrived at the Mesquite Animal Shelter on 7/23. He is already neutered. The noisy shelter is a scary place for him. He doesn't understand what he's doing in a place without his family and all the confusing noises. He stays at the back of his kennel. He's too scared to walk, so had to be carried into the room in which I did his eval. We hung out for a while in a quiet environment. He lets you pet him but doesn't completely relax. He needs a good brushing and people to spend more time with him so he can build trust. I just wanted to get him out to the public and rescues now. We will continue working with him. Expect a follow-up evaluation when he starts to blossom.

This very attractive youngster is Chip, surrendered to the Mesquite Animal Shelter on 8/1. He is an emaciated 33 pounds and is about 6 months of age. After consulting the Dog Scanner app, it appears that Chip may be a Portuguese Podengo with a few other breeds in the mix. He has the most beautiful eyes, one blue and one golden. Owner said that he gave this puppy he found as a stray a home, but decided to surrender him to the shelter at this time. Chip knows the sit command, love treats and will take them politely. He has a moderate energy level and is a well-behaved and obedient boy. Chip walks quite nicely on a leash. He spent a great deal of the time in the room in which I did his evaluation investigating and sniffing out various smells and exploring every nook and cranny. And oh those adorable ears! Undoubtedly one day he will grow into them! He is a friendly little fellow, and I found myself drawn to him. He was a-OK with me showing him loving attention and petting him. He seems a bit on the serious side, but certainly in a home environment in which he receives plenty of TLC, he will blossom. He absolutely needs to live inside with his people and given all the things every puppy needs-daily playtime, exercise, enrichment, a comfy doggie bed and some training
