Story
Are you an active person looking for an active dog to meet your lifestyle? Are you an active person that also enjoys lounging around after a good workout? Are you looking for a dog that can go 0 to 60 in seconds and loves to hit zoomies? Well look no further than 40 pound package of smoosh face, chaos and lover of all things people! Stella is a giant personality stuck in a tiny body and she is looking for an active family who will go on adventures with her. She's your typical bull in a china shop and may accidently over the tiny children, so unless they are made of tough stuff she would do best with older kids. She does well with dogs, but she has never been exposed to cats. If her chaotic energy and adorable smoosh face is exactly what you've been looking for, stop in a meet her today! If you're ready to adopt now and want to learn more about, meet, or adopt this pet, you can start the process in one of two ways: Come on in during open adoption hours Tuesday - Saturday 12:30-3:00! For in-shelter pets (not in foster care) coming in ASAP is the fastest way to adopt. **the below two methods are slower than visiting us** Call us (413-781-4000 x 1) or email us (springfield@dakinhumane.org) for more information about a pet. We are often on the line with another client, but we return voice mail and emails within 24 hours. All adult dog adoption fees include; -spay/neuter -rabies and kennel cough vaccinations - heartworm test -current parvo/distemper vaccines (may need additional boosters with your veterinarian) -microchip implanted & registered to adopter -treatment of fleas & ticks -veterinary exam and health certificate at Dakin -free vet exam within 30 days of adoption with participating veterinarians Most pets have also received other medical care while with us. Your veterinarian may recommend additional health care for your pet.

Story
Meet Grandpa Joe! This 12-years young elderbull came to us from local animal control after his owner could no longer care for him and we are swooning over his specialness. Joe is a gentle senior with the softest tail wag we’ve seen, and at over 80 lbs is a big boy. When we met this seasoned GrandPAW last month, he was in rough shape, even after beginning a great medical plan while in animal control. He had the worst ear and paw infections we’ve ever seen, extensive arthritis and muscle atrophy, and other medical concerns...all of which we are still treating. This mature pup is almost completely deaf and sleeps peacefully and soundly. He has had 2 Librela injections to help with arthritic pain. And while he didn’t immediately jump out of bed and dance like the real Grandpa Joe in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, the injections are helping, and these would need to be continued monthly. Even with this treatment, Joe can’t navigate stairs and needs assistance to navigate even a step or two to go outside.  Despite all that’s going on, Joe is still enjoying all that life has to offer! He loves soft toys, treats, eating snow, sniffing around the yard, and being part of the action. He wobbles from room-to-room and dog bed-to-bed to make sure he doesn’t miss out on a thing. He tolerates handling, taking medication, and getting his ear cleaned like a champ and is a resilient pup who still experiences so much joy. He LOVES to be close! His current foster is sleeping on a mattress on the floor with him and he is a cuddlebug in a human sized body! Grandpa Joe is in his golden years, and we strongly believe that senior pitizens are the best! He sleeps through the night (and much of the day) and has limited demands. Caring for him physically is really all that’s required, along with a warm and comfortable home to call his own for all of his days. Due to his age, and the aches and pains of being an aging adult, older or no kids would be best for this special and distinguished soul. Grandpa Joe’s top 3 priorities: 1. A family with kind hands and open hearts who will make this sweet and deserving senior man feel nothing but love for all of his days. 2. A family who understands that a seasoned soul like Grandpa might be a vintage edition but still has soooo much love to give. 3. A family who understands the physical demands of an 80-lb pup with mobility issues and has a set-up that will accommodate these needs. Carpet runners, pee pads, lots of dog beds, minimal or no stairs, etc.January 24, 2025, 8:55 am

Story
Polly is a sweet little bulldog mix who can`t wait to find a family of her own! Polly is a very social lady who loves to meet new people and really enjoyed the children in her previous home. She likes to go for walks and can be very playful, but Polly is able to settle and likes the comfort of her crate when she is by herself. Polly could potentially live with another well matched dog friend. She came to us with some itchy skin, so her new family will benefit from a good relationship with a vet to help keep her happy and healthy! If you think this dog could be a good match for your home and would like to learn more, stop by our Boston Adoption Center. We have open adoption hours Tuesday-Sunday from 12pm-3pm – no appointment needed to speak to a staff person regarding available dogs. Preparing your home for your new dog or puppy ahead of time can help ease the transition for your new pet and set you both up for success should there be a dog that’s a good match! To learn more about how to make the first few weeks with your new dog or puppy the most successful it can be, please visit www.mspca.org/petresources. For more information on our adoption process, please visit https://www.mspca.org/adoption-centers/how-to-adopt/ Please note, in an effort to keep the stress levels reduced for the dogs in our care, our dog kennel areas will not be open to walk through. Interested adopters will work with a matchmaker on staff to determine which dog(s) they’re interested in - and if we can identify a match, potential adopters will be able to meet those dogs outside of the kennel. Cat and small animal areas will remain open to walk through.

Story
Meet Ultra, a high-energy, playful boy with a heart full of love and a playful spirit to match! He may be big, but he still has the boundless energy and silly antics of a puppy. Ultra is looking for a family who can provide plenty of physical and mental stimulation to keep him engaged and help him work on his manners as he matures. He does have potential allergies and a mild heart murmur, so his adopters should be prepared to work with a vet to monitor and manage these conditions. Ultra could do well in a home with a stable, confident adult dog who can tolerate his rowdy play. Any children in the home should be comfortable with a big, jumpy dog and able to actively participate in his training. If you`re ready for an energetic, goofy boy who will keep you on your toes, Ultra could be the perfect addition to your family! If you’d like to learn more, stop by MSPCA at Northeast Animal Shelter. We have open adoption hours 11:30am-5pm daily - no appointment or application needed. Please note, in an effort to keep the stress levels reduced for the dogs in our care, our dog kennel areas will not be open to walk through. Interested adopters will work with a matchmaker on staff to determine which dog(s) they are interested in and if we can identify a match, potential adopters will be able to meet those dogs outside of the kennel. Story
jolene is such a playful goofball & is super easy to train! she's the best cuddler & loves to be with her humans. she loves to go on hikes, play fetch, & use tug toys. she is a super fun pup but also loves being mellow; a great pup i would keep if the situation was different. please note, jolene is a nervous girl & needs someone who is patient. she simply needs time to warm up & she will come out after everyone has settled in to say hello; returning herself to the crate if she is feeling nervous. she is well trained & walks nicely on leash. jolene needs to be an only pet or be homed w/ a larger male dog (she doesn't get on w/ my other small female senior pup anymore). she'd do best w/ children 12+. energy level: medium - needs regular exercise but loves to couch potato. weight: 40 lbs house & crate trained available for meet & greets; will bring all supplies if adopted see more on her instagram; @adoptablejolene
