Butchy, our 3 yr old, 120-pound American Bulldog, is for Rescue Placement only. While at the shelter Butchy has been able to make many human buddies. He loves to romp in the play yard with his tennis balls, splash in our doggy-pool (warmer weather), investigate on our creek trail and enjoy all the different scents of our flower garden. He earns plenty of treats from all the tricks he's learned. He also has found friends among his dog-walking buddies. Butchy was adopted as a puppy from a breeder, and lived with his family but there was an incident in the home where the family felt it was best to surrender him to the shelter. Butchy arrived to the shelter as a nervous 8-month-old puppy. He needed time to decompress so we could begin working with him. Butchy has shown the shelter staff and trainers he is eager to learn new things. He excelled in "how to trade", among other tricks. Butchy's ONLY option is to leave the shelter with an experienced rescue group that understands resource guarding & extra large breeds. Butchy will need a Board and Train facility so he can receive the much-needed continued behavior modification he deserves. Meet Bullseye! Our 2 year old American Bulldog. This big, 85 pound boy came to us overnight via our local police. Bullseye seems to be very housebroken, and knows his basic cues.. So, someone must have had him, right? Unfortunately, no one ever came to reclaim him. Bullseye absolutely LOVES toys (seriously, obsessed with playing fetch!) And he is dang good at it! Being Bullseye is a big boy, he can have tendencies to pull on lead but staff has been working with him and he is already doing a bit better. She was rescued from a shelter after she was found on the streets of Puerto Rico during Hurricane Maria in 2017. She fit right in with her adopted family, and they have loved her ever since. Unfortunately, a new family member is allergic. Her family is heartbroken, desperately trying to find Maggy a happy home where she will be loved as she deserves. Maggy gets along great with the resident cat, even giving him kisses every morning 🥰 ! She loves going to dog parks, the beach or for a good road trip! Maggy is very gentle with & loves children of all ages. Above all, Maggy loves food, sleep and RUNNING! (She's also very good on leash for a nice leisurely walk!) Diesel Foster/Foster to Adopt Home Needed – Long Island, NY Hi everyone! This is Diesel. He arrived at the shelter just after Christmas 2022 & he’s been there ever since 💔 He is a male, 7 year young Bully and he’s cute as a button 😍 Before coming to the shelter Diesel did not have the greatest life. Sadly, he was abused & living a life outside. When he first got to the shelter he was understandably terrified, but he did eventually make friends with some of the people there and now he loves them! It does take him a little bit to warm up to people but once he does, he is the biggest meatball mush ever!! Diesel loves to run around and play, and will do anything for treats 😊 He knows a lot of commands; some say he is the smartest boy. He is dog friendly but Diesel prefers dogs his own size or a little bit bigger……and he is quite the lover of the female dogs 💙 He needs a home where someone is experienced in having a dog that protectives his home. Diesel has a little stranger danger, so someone who knows that or is willing to learn would be ideal. He prefers a home with no small children; 15 years old & up please. He is neutered and UTD on all. While Diesel will be missed by his shelter friends, it’s high time he has a home of his own. He is such a good boy and just needs a chance. Sassy and Primo Foster/Home Needed – Long Island, NY Meet Sassy and Primo. Sadly, they and their dad lost their home, and they had no place to go. Pioneers for Animal Welfare Society, Inc stepped in at the last minute as they were headed to the local municipal shelter. They are currently in boarding but cannot remain there much longer. Sassy is a 10yr old female bulldog/pug mix, weighing about 35lbs. She has the cutest little strut when she walks….which she loves to do! Sassy is good with other dogs and has lived with children. She is spayed and UTD on all. Primo is a 6yr old male pittie mix, weighing about 90lbs. He loves a good walk and is very playful. Primo is good with most dogs, cats are an unknown. He has also lived with children. He is neutered and UTD on all. They have settled in and are so sweet and happy, but they desperately need a home. They are not bonded so can be adopted separately, but it would be great to keep them together if possible. PLEASE….consider taking these two sweet pups in, together or separately.
