Story
Age: 6 years old (approx) Weight: 50 pounds Adoption Fee: $175 (includes microchip, neuter surgery and vaccinations) Papa is a very friendly medium-sized dog who is sweet and people-oriented. He knows how to SIT, lay down, and SHAKE hands and will even do this with either paw! He is quite playful but also a well-behaved adult dog. He likes car rides and going for puppacinos and frozen yogurt! He loves all people and loves to make new friends! We have also discovered he seems to enjoy wearing hats and sweaters, and he's so photogenic that you cannot help but dress him up for pictures! He's our resident Dog Model who will wear just about anything and has fun too. Got Netflix? He'll binge-watch whatever you're watching with you (we can't guarantee he'll stay awake though!) We have also found that Papa also really likes race tracks! He has been to Virginia International Raceway THREE times and loves all the people and noise.  His ideal home would have no other dogs (cats who know dogs are OK) and no small children/toddlers (he jumps a little bit when he's excited and could knock a little child over without meaning harm). He likes to run around with balls so a fenced yard is required. **************************************************************************** Papa is available for adoption through Spirit Canine Rescue. To adopt Papa, please visit our website http://www.spiritcaninerescue.org/adopt.html for more information and to complete an application. A home visit will be required prior to adoption. We request that all adopters be within reasonable traveling distance to Burlington NC.   * Our only obligation is to the dogs in our program and we reserve the right to determine whether a particular dog and the adopter are the right fit. Remember, just because a dog "looks" like the one you want, that does not necessarily mean that the dog will "behave" like the one you want! Note: We do not adopt out of state!  We do not adopt dogs into homes with invisible /underground fencing! February 25, 2024, 12:13 am

Story
Meet Lady, a sweet and loving pup who’s ready to find her forever home! She’s a happy, playful, and affectionate companion who thrives on attention and affection. Lady is a quick learner and knows how to sit on command. She’s also highly motivated and listens well, quickly redirecting when asked. On walks, Lady is a dream – she’s great on a leash and will even stand still, waiting patiently for you to clip the leash on when she sees it in your hand. She’s also very eager to meet new people and loves to shower them with kisses and affection. Her playful nature means she’s always up for a good time, but she’s equally content curling up for a snuggle or a head rub. Whenever you sit down, you can count on Lady to be right there, sitting in front of you, ready to shower you with love. Lady loves car rides and hops in easily, settling in for the journey. She’s a social butterfly who enjoys being the center of attention, and her affectionate personality will make her a wonderful addition to any family. If you’re looking for a loyal, loving, and playful companion, Lady is the perfect match. She’s ready to fill your home with joy, cuddles, and plenty of love! As always, we strongly recommend bringing any resident dogs to the shelter for a meet and greet with potential new family members to be sure it's a good match. If bringing a dog for a meet and greet, please bring proof of up to date rabies, bordetella, and DHPP vaccines. To meet your future pet, come to Guilford County Animal Services between 12 and 4 any day except Tuesday!

Story
Starbies Pink Drink, affectionately known as "Starbies," is a sweet and charming 2.5-year-old dog with a personality that shines brighter the more you get to know her. While she might start off a bit shy and timid around new faces, once she warms up, Starbies is a loving and affectionate companion who thrives on close connections. Starbies is a low-energy dog, making her the perfect companion for someone who enjoys a slower-paced lifestyle. While she isn't always bursting with energy, Starbies enjoys walks at a relaxed pace and is an excellent walker. Her calm demeanor and easygoing nature make outings with her a pleasant experience. Despite her laid-back attitude, Starbies is still playful and enjoys occasional bursts of fun when the mood strikes her. Whether it’s a gentle game of fetch or chasing a toy, she knows how to enjoy herself and keep her humans entertained with her sweet, goofy antics. Starbies is house trained, and her good behavior around the house is a testament to how well she adapts to her environment. She is crate trained, and while she might experience some mild separation anxiety when left alone, she is a good-natured dog who simply craves the comfort and reassurance of her human companions. She’s happiest when she knows her people are close by, offering her the love and affection she seeks. As for her health, Starbies is heartworm negative, which is a great sign of her overall well-being. However, she does have some skin allergies, which are being actively treated, ensuring she remains as comfortable and happy as possible. She’s a trooper and takes her treatments in stride, never letting it dampen her gentle spirit. Once she becomes familiar with her surroundings and the people around her, Starbies is a social dog who enjoys the company of others. She is especially sociable once she feels safe and secure, and will happily greet visitors with a wagging tail and a warm heart. Starbies Pink Drink is a lovely, calm, and affectionate dog who would make a wonderful addition to a home looking for a low-maintenance companion who enjoys both her independence and the company of her favorite people. To meet Starbies or to learn more about her, please contact our foster coordinator at 336-937-1867 so that your information can be passed along to Starbies amazing foster!

Spayed or Neutered,
Story
Hey y’all! Queen here, reporting in after my Dog Day Out at Eno River State Park in Durham—and let me tell you, it was FUNBELIEVABLE!First things first, my car-riding skills? Unmatched. I’m in and out of the car at the crack of the door, and during the ride? Calm, cool, and collected. My DDO pal was clearly impressed. After a brunch fit for—well, you guessed it—a Queen, we hit the trails. I might have pulled a bit on the leash at first, but only because my pal was “slower than molasses in January.” Once we got moving, though, I was in my element.I conquered a suspension bridge not once, but TWICE—while some of my canine comrades wouldn’t even dare. No big deal for this adventurous gal.Oh, and speaking of challenges, the trails were swarming with tiny hoomans on a school field trip. But did I let that slow me down? Nope! I expertly weaved around them like a true trailblazer. Though, for reasons beyond me, I was called “Scooby-Doo” several times. I graciously let it slide. After seven miles of hiking glory, I capped off the day with another meal that was WAGNIFICENT.Now, I may have dazzled on the trails, but the only thing that could top today’s adventure? Finding my forever or foster home. You’d be hard-pressed to find a smarter, more affectionate lady than me.Ready to meet your new hiking buddy? Let’s make it happen!
