Story
Meet Duke, the heart-stealing, senior Chihuahua mix who's had quite the journey to find his forever sofa—er, home! This little guy is 16 years young and 18 lbs of pure love, with all of the spirit of a much younger pup (minus the puppy hassles.) Once he’s made himself at home, Duke’s house manners are impeccable — in fact, he’s a bit of a homebody and would prefer to chill on the couch with you than go out. He does enjoy a daily walk, and is a total PRO on a leash.     When it comes to socializing, Duke is a real charmer with a solid gold record with dogs, cats and humans. Oh, and while he's got no interest in guarding resources, he does have a bit of an obsession with his food bowl—and your proximity to it. He’s highly food motivated and extra responsive to vocal commands if there’s a treat involved.   Our boy isn’t much of a barker, but he’ll let you know if someone’s tiptoeing around the yard. And while he might not hear as well as he used to, that just means he's not bothered by loud noises—what a champ! Just a heads up: avoid touching his feet; he's not a fan.   Energy-wise, Duke's all about the easy life. A stroll in the yard or a short walk will do, and then it’s straight back to snuggling up.    The ideal home for Duke? He needs an adult human who's more into relaxing than running and who appreciates the finer, quieter moments in life. While a companion dog isn’t necessary, having someone around most of the time is essential for him. Preferably no - or minimal - stairs.   Ready to let this lovable gentleman into your heart and home? Story
Allow me to introduce myself: I am Waylon, a ten-pound Chihuahua with a distinctive personality. Having taken it upon myself to pen this profile, I believe there is no one better suited to capture my essence than I. As a mature Chihuahua, I have established certain preferences and routines. I am particular about my surroundings and activities. Though I am almost fully housetrained, exposure to the elements is not to my liking; I prefer the comfort of indoor environments. My inclination for using pavement rather than grass for my outdoor needs stems from my early years, where grassy terrains were not a part of my routine. My leash manners are impeccable, showcasing my disciplined nature. In keeping with the spirited nature of my breed, I possess certain assertive traits. I occasionally nip to assert my position, though it is never with the intention of causing harm. This behavior serves as a reminder of my presence and status. While I can be tolerant of being picked up by those I trust, this tolerance has its limits. Prolonged handling can elicit a strong reaction. Despite this, I often seek the comfort of being lifted again after some time, demonstrating my complex nature. I am a vigilant guardian, alert to the presence of strangers and potential threats such as mail carriers and passing neighbors. My protective instincts make me an excellent watchdog. In interactions with larger dogs, I may display a confident demeanor. However, these interactions never escalate as my small stature is evident, and my assertiveness is more performative than confrontational. Food is a significant motivator for me. I am quick and agile when it comes to securing treats, often outpacing my foster mom's distribution efforts. My enthusiasm for food is a testament to my spirited nature. Despite my independent streak, I am affectionate with my chosen person. I prefer to rest at the foot of the bed or nearby on the couch rather than demanding constant lap time. My presence is a quiet and comforting companionship. I have specific needs and preferences for my forever home: Frequent Visitors: Not suitable. Large Family: Not suitable. Small Children: Not suitable. Inexperienced Adopter: Not suitable. I seek an adopter with ample patience and an appreciation for the distinct personality of Chihuahua mixes. If you meet these criteria, I could be the steadfast companion you’ve been searching for. Story
Henry, once a shy and reserved pup, is blossoming into a delightful companion, showing all the signs of becoming a top-notch snuggler! At just one to two years old and weighing in at 26 pounds, this sweet former stray has quickly adapted to life with his foster family. He enjoys resting his head on his foster mom's lap, turning over for belly rubs, and even prancing around with newfound confidence. Henry is discovering the joys of playtime and absolutely LOVES going for long walks. After proper introductions, he walks gently on a leash and gets along well with other dogs. He’s also quite content in the company of his doggy foster sister, and he’s particularly fond of Kongs and stuffed toys. Motivated by food, toys, and love, Henry is currently mastering his “come” and “stay” commands, and he’s already crate-trained and almost fully house-trained. Now that he’s settled into his loving foster home, Henry occasionally gets the zoomies, reminding everyone that there’s still a playful puppy inside his sweet little body! With so much love to give and so much to learn, Henry will thrive in a loving home—perhaps with older children and/or another dog his size—where his training can be completed, and he can enjoy his second chance at a happy, fur-ever life.
