Story
Olivia is a special and sweet girl. She adores her human, has a mind of her own, and does not hesitate to let you know when she thinks she is not getting the attention she expects :) Her favorite thing seems to be to curl up under the blanket with her human and take long naps. She lives with 5 other dogs and is getting along great with them. She isn't scared to tell her big 50lb sister who is boss! She is very curious and wants to know what is going on at all times. She wants to be where you are to make sure she can keep an eye on you. Olivia has a few special needs, and is looking for a special family that will given her the extra care she requires. She can't use her back legs due to what might be a spinal injury. She does have sensation in both back legs though, so we started with some mobility exercises for a few months. We have also fitted her with a set of fancy pink wheels and she took to them immediately. They give her freedom, and she has quickly mastered how to navigate corners. She gets to wear them in the house several hours a day, until she decides she needs her precious naps. Now she zips around the house and the yard like a pro! She hasn't been doing exercises for some time now, however she has gained a bit more strength in her back legs and is able to stand up and take a few wobbly steps at a time. She also went for a short walk outside where she met several neighborhood kids and pups. More walks to come once the weather improves. Olivia is also a little incontinent, and that has been very easy to manage with washable diapers and a little help. Olivia has an amazingly inspiring zest for life and doesn't let this slow her down one bit. She is looking for her special family that will be willing to give her the little extra care she needs with loads of love that she absolutely demands :)Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.August 9, 2024, 9:46 am

Good with dogs, Good with cats,
Story
Brandi found herself on the streets in Little Elm in 2021, at the height of COVID, at about 10 months old.  She was lucky to survive the harsh streets and, fortunately, she was picked up by animal control and taken to the safety of the shelter.  Her luck improved when she was blessed to end up with us, Animal Rescue of Texas, and land in a great foster family. Brandi is highly intelligent and a quick learner. She mastered the doggie door in one day and uses it like an old pro following the resident crew for important engagements outside. She has learned some basic commands (sit, stay, in the crate, come and knows the release command) and absolutely loves large dogs so she may have lived with them in her prior life. She also gets along with medium and small dogs at the foster home, and does not mind cats or birds. Brandi is EXTREMELY high energy and is constantly engaged in something. She loves to run outside, play with whatever she can find and goes into zoom and zip mode at certain times of the day. She loves to play with the lab mix, sometimes, to extremes that the foster mom has to intervene.  Her best friend is a resident cocker spaniel whom she helped when she first came.  She has been a great help for the cocker spaniel and they are besties.  She plays with toys and retrieves them from the toy box daily and strews them around the room. She does have a bad habit of nipping at the legs of the large dogs and is learning to understand it is not a good idea, but it is a challenge when she gets excited. Brandi has a very loud bark for her size and sounds like a large dog. She protects her home and will bark a lot if not told to stop. She may not be a good fit for an apartment because of her barking and energy level. She would also do best with another dog in the house as she loves the company and loves playing with them.  She loves to go under the covers at night and sleep with her human so, if you are up for an affectionate warm dog at night, she is your girl.     Because Brandi is highly intelligent, that means she can figure out many complex problems, like how to get out of the yard or door. She has learned to stay until released at the door, but she constantly looks to see  how she can breach the 8 ft privacy fence and iron fencing with toddler bars at her foster home, which isn't  an easy feat. Because of her desire and curiosity, Brandi would do best in a home with a privacy fence of at least 6ft with no breach areas at the base (preferably concrete barrier as she is a digger) and no openings of any kind that look tempting. She is spayed, UTD on her vaccines, HW-, crate trained, house broken, and a lovable pup who just wants lots of love.
