Story
Penny gets along great with kids and other dogs. She warms up to people quickly and she is very smart. Penny loves going on walks seeing all the people. She also likes to play in the pool in our play yard. Penny`s personality is to always play. If you would like to meet Penny, call the LPCHS front desk or walk-in today to schedule an appointment! Penny`s review from one of our wonderful volunteers:`Penny was very enthusiastic to get out of the kennel. She greeted the other dogs with some barks and tail wags. She really wanted to play, but the other dogs didn`t feel comfortable enough to play with her until the halfway point of our walk. At that point, all of the dogs were more relaxed, so they easily played with one another. She listened to commands when her name was called. She was very excited to be out in nature, and she was tired enough by the end of our walk that she fell asleep in the back of my car on the ride back to the shelter. She pulled a bit, especially at first when she was full of energy, but overall, she was a very well-behaved pup.`

Story
Looking for the best adventure buddy ever?! Meet Stuffy! He loves joining his foster family on cross country ski trips, hikes, & long walks. He has got his basic commands down and would love to make his furrever home happy. Here`s a note from a dedicated volunteer that`s gotten to know him:I honestly can`t believe that this amazing dog is still at the shelter! He is so calm, sweet, obedient, and walks beautifully on a leash. He was the star dog on the bike path yesterday with people commenting on how good he was time and again. He would sit and stay and just look to me for guidance as other dogs would pass barking and pulling toward him. What a good boy! He also freely gives the sweetest love throughout with stopping for cuddles and kisses. He even comes up and rubs his head against my leg to show his appreciation. He`s a joy to play with as well and is fully engaged and responsive. I absolutely adore this dog and whoever has the privilege to end up with him is going to be SO lucky!!! Please someone come meet this endearing sweetheart and give him the home he deserves. You won`t regret it!!

Story
Doko is a staff favorite at LPCHS because he is so well behaved. Doko came to LPCHS as a rambunctious young pup. Staff, volunteers and his foster have worked consistently with Doko on basic obedience and manners. Doko knows most basic commands; sit, down, stay, and look. He is currently working on improved recall, `come`. Doko celebrated his first birthday by getting a pup cup and a romp in the park with his volunteer buddy. He had a real crash course exposure to city noises downtown and kept his cool through it all. He was not reactive to any of the new loud noises, the train, trash trucks, crying children. Doko loves to play. If you have ever seen Ted Lasso he is like Danny with futbol. `Ball is life!` Doko would run around and play ball all day if given the opportunity. Doko also loves snow. Not much is left in town but Doko would find a few piles roll around in it and eat snowballs. Doko appears to be a water dog too. He really enjoyed splashing through mud puddles and finding sticks to show off. Many things are new to Doko as he is still a young pup. He was nervous on the stairs but after several practices with treats and building on each step Doko eventually mastered the scary stairs. I was so proud of Doko, by the end of the week he was even showing off how he could ascend and descend open riser stairs, which are often scary to dogs as they can see below. Doko rides in the car well. He lays or sits calmly in the back and doesn`t distract the front riding passengers. I agree that Doko is a velcro dog. He chooses to lay right beside me rather than a soft dog bed. Doko would be happiest in an active home. Someone willing to play ball with him and keep building on his new training skills. Doko in return will be your loyal BFF,rewarding you with snuggles and endless smiles. I`m honestly sad the week is over. We`ve had so much fun on Spring Break together!Doko`s Buddy TarynFrom Doko`s foster:Doko is an energetic, fun, and loving pup. His soft fur is wonderful to pet and he loves the attention. He learns and follows routines quickly. He is food-motivated when learning anything. He needs to go out to poop and then pee first thing in the morning. He is full of energy first thing in the morning, as in 0 to 100. He wants to play and get attention from his human and furry friends. Doko is a speedy eater with just a regular food bowl so having alternative ways to slow him down is helpful. He`s smart and can quickly f

Story
`We had the students from Escalante Middle School in Ms. Fischer’s ELD class come and meet Elton. Then, they wrote a letter about our sweet boy and drew a wonderful picture of him.`Did you know that Elton is a good boy? Elton is a brown and white large dog at The La Plata County Humane Society. In my opinion, you should adopt this dog because:1) He listens, for example, when you give a command he does it.2) He is calm, for example, when there are a lot of people he stays calm.3) He is curious, for example, he walks around the room smelling things calmly.Thank you, Escalante Middle School, for coming to see me!
