Story
Meet Woodrow We love Woodrow. This handsome boy is a gentle giant. He was surrendered to us after his original owner walked away, leaving him locked in an apartment. The apartment worker who found him tried keeping him, but the manager wouldn’t let him. As a result, “Woody” has been safe with us for nearly five years, but living at our shelter is no way to live. Woody is so loved by our staff and volunteers, but our greatest wish is to see him land softly with a person or family of his own. Woody is now 7.5 years old. He’s a gem that deserves so much more in life. Woody loves people. He lives for attention. When he sees his favorite people, his whole body wiggles and he can hardly contain his excitement. In addition to people, Woody lives for water – sprinklers, pools, lakes, hoses, buckets – you name it if it has water Woody loves it! Our favorite summertime fun is to watch Woody jump in the baby pools and splash around. Woody is still an active pup, but he’s calming down and maturing. Woodrow is housetrained. He walks well on a leash and loves going for walks. He also loves car rides. Woodrow is exceptionally smart and learns quickly. He is well behaved in his kennel and out. Woodrow is just a big sweetheart towards people. Woodrow doesn’t seem to like dogs or cats and will do best as an only pet. Having gone without love, food, toys and other resources early on, Woody is known to guard his resources when other dogs are nearby. Woody gets occasional sleepovers with a favorite volunteer. He loves these times away and transitions easily into the home environment. Woody may be a bigger boy, but he lives small and he’s quiet. He needs a fenced yard to play and sun himself. He will make for a fantastic companion for a less active person or family. He’d be a great travel buddy and constant companion. He relishes quiet time, soft blankets a kind hand and snuggle time. He’s well-mannered, friendly, affectionate, calm, quiet, and dignified. Even after five years, he’s still a big, silly and goofy hippo, but lately we’ve seen signs of depression in our once happy hippo. A little less sparkle, a little less excitement and a little less interest in things. Woody needs someone to show him that his life matters and who understands dog behavior and can build up Woody’s confidence again. We pray that his furever person comes for him and gives him his happy back. If interested in giving Woody a soft landing, please submit a dog application online at www.charlessmithgallhumanesociety.org Please call our shelter at 706-865-4135 or email us at smithgallhumanesociety@windstream.net to let us know to be on the lookout. All adopters must complete an approval process which involves a reference check with current/recent vet and a brief home visit if located in the immediate area. We do permit out of state adoptions. Adopters MUST come to the shelter to transport their new family member home. We do not ship nor do we transport them to their new homes. Adoption policies and application procedures are detailed at the shelter website: http://charlessmithgallhumanesociety.org/ under tab All Adoptable Animals. Charles Smithgall Humane Society (CSHS) is a No kill shelter. Animals in our care remain safe with us until adopted. Resident animals are either owner relinquished rescued from area Animal Controls or high kill shelters. The facility usually is operating at capacity with a list of animals waiting for space to open.

Story
Meet Ginger This gorgeous girl is a gem. Ginger seems like she once had a loving home, but not anymore. Finding herself homeless, we’re thankful we can be there for Ginger and give her a safe place to land as we look for her forever home. Ginger is a two year old pibble mix. She weighs just 45 lbs. and is nothing but sweetness. She is outgoing, friendly and easy-going. She loves people, greeting everyone with tail wags and body wiggles. She is so happy when she can be with people. Ginger is active, but not overwhelming, just a happy young dog. Ginger was at the vet for a check-up recently (she got a clean bill of health) and happily greeted all the other dogs and kitties in the waiting room. She definitely seems dog and cat friendly. She was great with the vet and the techs. Ginger walks beautifully and easily on a leash and loves to go for car rides and rides like a champ. Ginger knows many commands and is very smart. This girl is an angel. The person or family who adopts her will be so lucky. She is amazing with a capital A. If looking for a terrific young pup to welcome to your heart and home, Ginger is definitely a keeper. She will transition easily into a loving home. If interested in Ginger, please submit an application online at: www.charlessmithgallhumanesociety.org. Please email our shelter (smithgallhumanesociety@windstream.net) or call our shelter at 706-865-4135 and leave a message to make sure we received your application. Story
Teechee is named after the Cateechee Golf Course where she was found as a stray. The staff of the golf course made sure she was fed and tried to find her owners. When no one came forward, we knew we had to get her to safety. Teechee loves other dogs and will climb a fence to get to a playmate in the next yard. She is gentle and shows love to anyone who is kind to her. Teechee is known as our "nanny" dog as she absolutely loves children! While she is quite strong, she walks well on leash and is very eager to please! One of our caring volunteers took Teechee to training classes at our local PetSmart. She is now an obedience school graduate! If you are looking for a loyal, loving companion, Teechee is your girl. ##1865896##
