Story
Our family adopted Harriet from the Nebraska Humane Society in Omaha in September of 2023. We were excited to bring her home and she fit in so well with our family. Unfortunately we are moving and she cannot come with us, this breaks our hearts. Harriet’s age was unknown when we adopted her, the NHS guessed around 5 years, so she would be almost 6 years old now. She has had some training through Meraki Dog Training and knows commands “sit”, “down” (we use down in place of lay) and “place” well. She knows the command “leave it”, but really needs some reinforcement when using it. She uses a slow feeding bowl, as she likes to inhale her food. She will sit and wait for her food, until given the “ok” command to eat. She is great with kids, although can mouth had hands if kids are too rambunctious. We use a prong collar for training and walking, which she does well with. She is kennel trained and does well sleeping through the night in one. I could go on, but we can discuss more later.

Story
How awesome would it be to come home to the happiest dog waiting at the door for you with his cutest dog smile?! Wheezy Bear has shown great improvement in his health since his rescue foster placement and he loves getting outdoors to work out his improved lungs and loosened joints. Although 8 years old he can race with the best of them on his really good days and loves greeting all humans. That greeting includes licks aka loves! He has taken to being house trained quickly and now does his business outside proudly while learning habits from the other dogs to go to the door and peek out while waiting and looking at you! “Come on my human, let me out!” And while he came to us malnourished, he has gained back his healthy weight and loves his food dish. His new friend pups in his foster home know to give him space when he has food in his dish. They eat separately and he respects their space as well. And although he would eat theirs too, he is kept on a regular feeding schedule as he will eat himself sick. Treats tie him over between eatings and peanut butter treats call his name over others! He does get protective of his humans when they have food as well so we set him up to be successful with his feedings at the same time. Outside of loving his food and his new friends, he loves playing with his basketball and chewing on his bones and noisy toys. On occasion, he and one of his fur friends engage in a great game of tug and war with the dog rope toy. Undoubtably is a lover and wants to be sure you feel loved too from giving the best head hug to cuddling right next to you on the couch. He will steal your heart with the best handshake, so be ready for your love to start from first site of his big pup smile! This boy had a terrible life prior to being rescue. He was banished to the outdoors in the frigid winter, and scathing heat in the summer. His entire lonely existence was inside a pen (see photo of his previous life). He developed bronchitis that had been plaguing him for probably months, exacerbated by the harsh bitter temps. A kind soul finally convinced his owners to surrender him because his cough had gotten so severe. Previous records say his name is "Beast" and is 8 yrs old, but the vet thinks he is older. We gave him a new name which is now "Wheezy Bear". He is gentle, calm, and one of the saddest dogs we'd ever met when he arrived. He had simply given up hope that he would ever be loved or treated with dignity. We shared his story to our foster group and asked if there was anyone would could take mercy on this poor boy. An amazing family stepped right up and offered to give him refuge. He is LOVING life as an indoor dog and has even learned how fun toys can be! He is soaking up all the love in his foster home and is absolutely thriving! He is now ready for the next chapter of his life where he will be the spoiled prince of his very own castle with a family to call his own. Wheezy Bear is a male Pitbull Terrier who was born approximately 2-4-16. He is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, given flea/tick preventative, dewormed, tested negative for heartworm disease and started on heartworm prevention. He has chronic coughing due to neglect and going for years with repeated bouts of bronchitis while with his former owner. The cough is managed and treated with medication to keep it at bay as much as possible. Wheezy Bear also has arthritis and has stiffness in his gait, likely due to the neglect he suffered prior to being rescued. Joint supplements are helpful for him and should be continued. Adoption fee is $200 to help offset the many expenses we have for vetting costs. We rely strictly on adoption fees and donations to continue to save the lives of orphaned & abandoned pets; 100% goes towards their care. Story
Ace is a former shelter dog that would love to find his way out of boarding as the kennel environment is starting to wear on him after several months. He is 6-7 years old and weighs approximately 62 pounds. Our best guess on his breed is an American pit bull terrier mix of some kind.   Ace loves to go on walks and only pulls when he spots a squirrel. He does not enjoy water, but will sit like a good boy during bath time. We suggest that Ace be an only dog and think he would do best with older children.   In general, Ace loves cuddling and is usually relaxed. But watch out because Ace likes to keep you on your toes when he has a case of the zoomies. He also loves to chew on toys, but they need to be tough and durable.   Suggested adoption donation: $300.00   Foster/Adoption form available at nebraskanokill.org     August 16, 2024, 12:16 pm

Story
Cain is an American pit bull terrier mix and a former shelter dog that has been in boarding for several months. He is neutered and weighs 55 pounds. This 6-year-old, goofy boy needs some training to be the best dog he can be, but our organization is willing to pay for his training if we can find the right foster or adoptive home.   Cain loves to cuddle up in his blankets and wouldn’t mind relaxing to a movie with you. He is great at going outside because he loves to sunbathe. Cain also likes to chase toys, especially when it’s his idea. Do you have a fenced yard where he could enjoy time outdoors and play fetch? He also walks fairly well on leash.   Cain has lived with other dogs, but doesn’t always get along the greatest, so we'd prefer to find a home where he could be the only dog. He loves people, but we also think he would live his best life in a home with adults and perhaps older children.   Suggested adoption donation: $300.00 Foster/adoption forms available at: nebraskanokill.org  August 16, 2024, 12:16 pm

Story
My name is Murphy and I am a gorgeous brindle boy.  Per my DNA test I'm 37% American pitbull terrier, 12% Australian cattle dog and 7% Labrador retriever. I am a good boy, sadly I've been at the shelter for a long time :( and here is what you need to know:  I need a home with a great leader who can continue my current routines, I'm kennel trained and muzzle trained if you live in an area where i need to wear a muzzle to go for walk. I know sit, down, wait, I love walks and hikes, car rides, belly rubs under the sun, eating ice, doing zoomies on the snow, and I love people!  I have a high prey drive so no small dogs or cats for me. I like children but I think it's best that I live with older ones as I might be a little too strong for them. If you think I can come to your house and show you what a good boy I am, please reach out and let's meet!   Thank you!!!  Love, Murphy.  Thanks to our amazing Angel Sponsors, our long term pups now come with reduced adoption fees, alleviating financial road blocks for some, and making it even easier to open your heart and home to a furry friend. The adoption fee is $100 plus tax and covers age appropriate vaccines, a microchip, and a spay/neuter and a home training session.  Applications are typically worked in time stamp order based on date/time of submission.  If you have other dogs in your home, they must all meet the potential adoptee.  It may save you a trip to bring them with you when you visit, if you are certain you want to adopt a new family member. *****We are currently operating by appointment only during the social distancing stage of quarantine.   If you want to meet this pet, or are interested in adopting, please submit an inquiry or email to tchspapillion@gmail.com. Someone from the rescue will contact you and/or your family and determine, on a broad level, whether you might be a fit for the animal.  If so, they will provide instructions for completing the application. Your application will be reviewed and you will be contacted to set up a time to meet at the shelter or the foster home.   The introduction between you and the pet will be supervised by one of the dog counselors or the foster.   If all goes well, you can adopt during the same visit. Please be sure to follow us on Facebook to learn more about Town and Country Humane Society and our mission. ##960891##

Story
Elsa is approximately 2-3 years old and about 50 pounds. She is deaf but that doesn’t stop her from playing with other dogs and learning commands through sign language. She is very treat motivated and loves to be around people so training comes easy for her. Her food motivation has made her a little protective during feeding time and will need to eat and enjoy bones separate from other animals. She has really enjoyed playing with her foster brothers and has learned a lot from them so having a fur sibling would be good for her, but not required. She likes to chase cats so a home with no feline friends would be best for her. Elsa is very social and has been known to jump a fence to say hi to her neighbors so she will need to be supervised when outside. This sweet girl loves unconditionally and with all of her heart; if you can provide a safe, deaf-friendly home for her please fill out an application today! The suggested adoption fee for Elsa is $315. Bullies-N-Beyond ResQ Inc. is a 501(c)3, non-profit corporation that is 100% volunteer operated. Adoption donation fees are the primary source of funding for the cost of veterinary care for our animals. All dogs adopted through BNBR will have been administered their age appropriate vaccines which may include DHPP, Rabies, Lepto and Bordetella. All dogs will also be adopted out as already altered if of age, for those not of age, a voucher will be provided. The adoptions for all of our animals will take place in the Omaha, NE area and must be done by the adoptive family in person. We do not ship or deliver. BNBR does not adopt on a first serve basis. All available dogs are adopted based on their needs to provide the best fit home. ##1802192##

Story
Moose is a Pit Bull Terrier puppy, born June, 2023. He is a ball of energy and loves to play and wrestle with his foster sibling. This not-so-little guy is incredibly sweet and is eager to please his humans. Moose is also very food and treat-motivated as well as he is potty trained, kennel trained, and walks well on a leash. As he grows (currently around 60 pounds) he will need to continue to work on not jumping on people and resisting the counter-surfing urge! Overall, Moose is a playful, cuddly pup who can't wait to find his forever home! Story
Ace is a young Pit Bull Terrier, born 02/07/2023. This goofy charmer likes to sit back and thoughtfully watch everyone else play, and then decide if he wants to join in.  He loves to play in the yard, take nice, long naps, snuggle and have enrichment time with toys and snuffle mats!  When out for a walk, Ace loves exploring; therefore, he will need a 6-foot fence to prevent him going off on his own.  Due to his enthusiastic playing, we recommend there be no young children in his new home.  When bored, Ace has a tendency to get into trouble so he is now kenneled when unsupervised.  Ace is working on his confidence and hopes his new family will continue to help him grow.  If Ace sounds like the right dog for you, check out the information below.  The suggested adoption fee for Ace is $365.
