Story
Dog Name: Malin Breed: Pittie mix Sex: female Age: ~ 3 yo Weight: 40 lbs Medical Needs: Malin has mild hip dysplasia on one side and bilateral luxating patellas. She takes a Dasuquin supplement daily which has made her joint issues almost imperceptible. This costs $13/mo  Housebroken: yesCrate trained: yesGood in the car: LOVES to go for rides. Good on a leash: Meh. Not so much. She acts like she has ADHD when the leash comes out. I think she’s hoping the next stop is the car! Energy level: mediumNeed a fenced in yard: not required  Dog Friendly: Yes and no. She is able to be out and about in public around other dogs and be fine. In the home, she can coexist with the right match of a dog…lower energy and not in your face. She has been known to resource guard items and food. For this reason,  a dog free home is recommended.  Cat Friendly? No. Perhaps it was a W. Virginia mountain lion that attacked her, leading to her amputation. Now she seeks revenge on all felines. ‍‍‍ It’s the story we are going with! Kid Friendly: I recommend teens. She could interpret screaming and yelling from youngsters as someone being threatened and would want to intervene. She seems sensitive to that.  If you followed GRR for a while then you know Malin has been with the rescue for about 17 months now. She came with some pretty severe injuries to her face and front legs which necessitated the amputation of her front right leg. During these 17 months, she’s had exactly 2 meet and greets!! Only TWO One of which is when we learned of her desire to nomnom a kitty ‍. Sure, she’s not perfect and needs a specific kind of home but she is so deserving of that. She is such a loving and devoted companion. I guarantee that if someone broke into my house all my dogs would probably hide but Malin…she would protect me at all costs. She absolutely loves going anywhere in the car…perhaps you know an over the road trucker in need of companionship? She is also happy to just chill at home on the couch if that’s where you are. She’s really not asking for too much. I know there has to be someone out there who sees the beauty in her like I do!!  Fosters Location:Hurlock, MD Application can be found here: https://www.grrde.org/adoption-application (if you already have an approved application on file email GrassRootsDE@gmail.com and ask the app team to pull your app —  ##1363897##

She also sleeps in her crate over night in her fosters bedroom.  Good in the car: Yes. Etta loves to get out of the house and go for a car ride.  Good on a leash: Etta does well with a prong collar.    Energy level: Medium. Etta loves to play and run around. So she will need a daily outlet. While she does play hard she will also lounge around and sleep with you in bed or the couch. Need a fenced in yard: No, but of course she will need to be leashed and exercised regularly to burn off energy.  Dog Friendly: Yes. Etta lives with a resident dog and they get along well. She will do best with dogs her size or bigger because she does play rough. Etta is a bit cautious at first so she requires a slow introduction.  If yes, does your foster need another dog in its adoptive home:  No Cat friendly: Unknown  Kid Friendly: Yes If yes, what's the youngest age: 10 and up. Traits that make your foster special: Etta is a beautiful brindle American Pit Bull Terrier mix.  She is food motivated and loves to be with her people! Story
ABOUT MOO Moo is a 1 year old pittie mix that was found abandoned on our property. We tried to find her owner, but unfortunately no one came for her. Without any information, we knew exactly what to call her. Named because of her unmistakable spots and snorting noises, Moo is the goofiest girl around! All she needs is an active owner, willing to provide the endless belly-rubs she's been yearning for. Whether she's curled up in her kennel or zooming around our fenced fields, Moo always has her favorite toys right by her side! Her rough and tumble play-style keeps us all entertained. After she lets her energy out, she is quick to flop over at your feet for some love! Moo is very food and toy motivated to learn, making her the perfect student. She already knows basic commands and walks well with a harness. She is eager to please her friends and sure to win over your heart. Will you give this sweet girl a chance? **Moo is seeking a home as your only pet! If you are interested in adopting Moo, please submit an adoption questionnaire! Our adoption process is on a first-come, best-match basis and we are not able to hold animals. If you are interested in this specific dog but it ends up not being the best fit upon meeting, our adoption counselors will work with you to help find a match! All household members, including children, must come along for the meeting to make sure it's a good fit. If a match is made, we encourage same-day adoptions! Our adoption fees include the animals' spay/neuter, microchip, age-appropriate vaccinations and preventatives, fecal testing, heartworm testing, and a small bag of food to get you started.

Story
Dog Name: Franchie  Breed: Pit mix Sex: F Age: 11 years old  Weight: 60 lbs Medical Needs: Has some old lady lumps and arthritis but is otherwise in good condition and feeling great for her age. She won't be competing in agility contests though! She gets some anti-inflammatories for comfort, which should be continued. Housebroken: Yes! She goes to the door when she needs to go, or she comes to tell you about it! Crate trained: Yes, but not always happy about it. Prefers using the crate on her own terms. Once you shut the door she may protest for a little bit, but settles down. Good in the car: yes! She loves to get in the car and go, though she needs a boost.  She sits quietly and looks out the window. Good on a leash: ok on a leash. She never learned to be led, and tries to control the walk. The walks are still pleasant since she mostly just wants to sniff and stroll. Energy level: low-medium Need a fenced in yard: no, if supervised. Dog Friendly: Would be best as an only pet. She has come to accept the resident dog, an older calm fellow, and could likely do so again. She does not want to be challenged, to compete, or be pestered at her age. She has come a long way to relax around other dogs, but is likely to remain a work in progress, with firm corrections and rewards for calm and accepting behavior. Cat Friendly? Unknown, doubtful. Kid Friendly: untested; however, she demonstrates a love of gentle people. Respectful and careful older children are likely fine. Special traits that make your foster special or that we need to know about them?  Franchie had a hard life before rescue.  Now she is feeling better, and loving leisure and affection! If this is retirement life, she’s here for it! She desperately wants a little attention and would be so happy with the simplest life of kindness. She has come out of her shell in the foster home and is soaking up the pets and treats. She is learning expectations and tries to please, but can be a little set in her charming old lady ways. Despite her age, she loves a game of tug and will chase a bouncing ball... And she will definitely let you know it's time to play. She absolutely loves going for nature walks, the more nature, the better—though she gets a bit tired and ready to go home after much more than a mile. She just wants to be where you are! Story
Dog Name: Eight Breed: pittie mix Sex: male Age: 3 years Weight: 70 pounds Medical Needs: none Housebroken: mostly.  has had a few instances of marking when in new places Crate trained: Yes.  He is quiet in his crate and makes no messes.  He sometimes needs to be encouraged to enter his crate with a treat though. Good in the car: He loves car rides!  He does need to be restrained so he doesn't try to cuddle with the driver, though. Good on a leash:  We're working on it.  Once he's worked out some of his initial energy, he does really well.  We recommend a prong collar. Energy level: Medium Need a fenced in yard: No. He would be content to go on walks.  He doesn't like spending much time outside on his own. Dog Friendly: He may be a little dog selective.  He's wonderful with the dogs he's being fostered with (ranging in size from 6 to 80 pounds, puppy to 13 years in age), and hasn't had any issues at adoption events, but has met one or two dogs he didnt like. If yes, does your foster need another dog in its adoptive homes? No Cat Friendly?  No Kid Friendly: Yes If yes, what's the youngest child you'd recommend they be placed with? Eight doesn't know his strength or size, and when he's excited he forgets some of his commands (like don't jump), so kids under ten probably aren't the best fit Special traits that make your foster special or that we need to know about them?  Grass Roots pulled Eight from a high kill shelter in Oklahoma where he was schedule to be euthanized due to overcrowding. When they heard that Grass Roots would be pulling a few dogs for transport to DE, the kennel workers at the shelter immediately suggested him, as he was one of their favorites. We don't know his history, as he was found as a stray. While his home-butchered ears and tail show the evidence of previous mistreatment, none of that is evident in his personality. He's a sweet, gentle boy who loves people and all the dogs he's being fostered with. He loves to cuddle on the couch, play with toys and LOVES loves food. Eight is a big ol' handsome dope of a dog with a mind of his own.  At home he's laid back and spends most of his time dozing.  He loves car rides.  Every time we stop at Dunkin Donuts he knows he's getting a pup cup and makes everyone on the other side of the drive-thru window laugh with his excited seal-like barks.  He's very treat motivated, very smart and very stubborn... and his foster mom isn't smart enough to figure out how to train him without bribes.  He knows sit, off and come, but sometimes pretends he doesn't.  Sometimes he'll not want to leave a store until he's gotten a hello and a pat from every human in the building, other times he's having some "me-time" and will ignore everyone unless they come bearing treats.  Foster mom says he has been one of her easiest fosters due to how mellow he is at home.
