Story
Look at that smile on Tonka's face! Tonka is such a happy girl and smiles whenever she sees someone she knows. She isn't fond of initially meeting new people so slow introductions are required but she warms up quickly and once you're in her circle of friends, you'll receive that smile every time she sees you. Her whole face lights up and her bum wiggle starts. You can't help but smile back at her. Tonka is 12 years old and has spent a great deal of those years at Satchel's. While she can be excitable, she wants nothing more than attention from those she loves. Tonka knows basic commands and walks well on the leash once her initial excitement over the prospect of going for a walk diminishes. She's looking for a quiet retirement home. A home with not a lot of "strangers" coming and going. A home welcoming that smile and her kisses every day. A home with someone to share all her love - she has so much to give. Please submit the adoption application (no commitment) found on our website, www.satchelslastresort.org, and make an appointment to meet this girl. It may take a couple of visits before she'll be ready to go home with you but she's so worth the time. She will win your heart with her giant ears and exuberant personality.

Story
Look at this handsome boy! Watson is a big boy who just wants to be a dog. He would do best in a home with low traffic where he can get to know and trust the people coming through his territory. Watson is strong-minded and needs a dog-savvy person. He likes to sit on your lap and is very affectionate but he doesn't care to be smothered in any way or have people in his face. He likes to play with ropes and chewy toys and sits like a perfect gentleman in the car. This boy is looking for someone to bond with who understands him. Is that you? He'll be your loyal companion for life if you're the one for him. For an appointment to meet him, please submit the adoption application (no commitment) found on our website, www.satchelslastresort.org.

Story
Fierce as flames, with a marshmallowy center, Kora is a girly all her own. She is a five year old Pittie mix queen with Brindle colors, and white patches. She is very shy when meeting new people, and doesn't care to be crowded. She would much rather prefer one on one sessions, even after she has met you a few times. She absolutely adores playing fetch with tennis balls, and carries a giant smile the whole game. She also loves to walk around the yards, checking in with you to see if you are close by. She does enjoy treats, though if she is nervous, she tends to turn them down till she gets her bearings. She likes to be the only pup, and doesn't care to share her space with other animals. She is currently working with a Woof Pack leader on her basic obedience and social skills. She walks decently on a leash, but when she wants to turn back, she is quite stubborn. Kora needs quite a bit of patience, as she tries to figure out her surroundings. If you are interested in being the supportive, loving, patient home for this beautiful girl, please submit an application (no commitment) at Satchelslastresort.org.

Story
64 pounds of pure love!! Big Billy is a dapper, dappled three-legged gentleman who loves head scratches, belly rubs, butt pats and kisses. In other words, this handsome boy allows all the love from all types of people. He's a happy-go-lucky boy with constant tail wags and sweet, slobbery kisses. He's mastered the head nudge to politely ask for more affection and is happiest when he can be by your side. He enjoys resting his head on your lap for scratches between his brows and will snuggle up in bed with you if you let him! His light green eyes and merle pattern are stunning, too! Big Billy is crate-trained, housebroken, and walks well–with just a little pulling–on his leash. He's easy to redirect and listens like a champ. He comes when called and knows commands like sit, stay and wait. While we don't know where Big Billy once lived, we can tell he came from a home where someone took the time to teach him to be a “good boy”! Big Billy has been in foster care with two adults--a male and female--and a seven-year-old child who he is particularly fond of and absolutely adores. He has a tail-wagging good time meeting strangers and won't hesitate to flop over for a belly rub from the get-go. Big Billy's enthusiasm for small dogs and cats is endearing, but his curiosity may come off as intimidating for cats & little dogs on the receiving end. His laid-back, easy-going personality has good potential for getting along well with other canine companions though he'd be just fine as the only dog in the home as he does love people!  Big Billy was found in February as a stray with a broken leg and brought into the county shelter. We presume the injury is from being hit by a car. Unfortunately, due to the severity of the fracture, and the length of time he had the broken bone before he found his way into foster care, amputation was his best option. He had the surgery on April 16th and adjusted immediately to 3-legs. He has since been cleared for adoption without any need for follow-ups or medication and he is now ready to find the "furever" family he deserves! Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.November 2, 2024, 6:49 pm

Story
I acquired my dog from the Manatee County Animal Welfare. He is 6 years old. He is very affectionate and loves to snuggle. He is amazing with adults and children. My son is 6 years old and he has been very gentle with him. He has never shown aggression towards humans. He is not good with other dogs or cats and will chase rabbits. We are looking for a new home because of his recent behavioral issues. He has separation anxiety which causes him to go to the bathroom in the house frequently due to him being nervous. He has chewed blinds and baseboards. He is not house or crate broken. He has chewed and damaged his crate and will freak out if he is left inside of it. He needs an owner that can be home with him throughout the day that has a fenced in yard where he can run. He is pretty good on a leash but he has run away a couple of times. He doesn't respond to him name very well. But if you can be home with him and give him a nice yard he is an amazing dog.
