Story
Look at that smile on Tonka's face! Tonka is such a happy girl and smiles whenever she sees someone she knows. She isn't fond of initially meeting new people so slow introductions are required but she warms up quickly and once you're in her circle of friends, you'll receive that smile every time she sees you. Her whole face lights up and her bum wiggle starts. You can't help but smile back at her. Tonka is 12 years old and has spent a great deal of those years at Satchel's. While she can be excitable, she wants nothing more than attention from those she loves. Tonka knows basic commands and walks well on the leash once her initial excitement over the prospect of going for a walk diminishes. She's looking for a quiet retirement home. A home with not a lot of "strangers" coming and going. A home welcoming that smile and her kisses every day. A home with someone to share all her love - she has so much to give. Please submit the adoption application (no commitment) found on our website, www.satchelslastresort.org, and make an appointment to meet this girl. It may take a couple of visits before she'll be ready to go home with you but she's so worth the time. She will win your heart with her giant ears and exuberant personality.

Story
Look at this handsome boy! Watson is a big boy who just wants to be a dog. He would do best in a home with low traffic where he can get to know and trust the people coming through his territory. Watson is strong-minded and needs a dog-savvy person. He likes to sit on your lap and is very affectionate but he doesn't care to be smothered in any way or have people in his face. He likes to play with ropes and chewy toys and sits like a perfect gentleman in the car. This boy is looking for someone to bond with who understands him. Is that you? He'll be your loyal companion for life if you're the one for him. For an appointment to meet him, please submit the adoption application (no commitment) found on our website, www.satchelslastresort.org.

Story
Fierce as flames, with a marshmallowy center, Kora is a girly all her own. She is a five year old Pittie mix queen with Brindle colors, and white patches. She is very shy when meeting new people, and doesn't care to be crowded. She would much rather prefer one on one sessions, even after she has met you a few times. She absolutely adores playing fetch with tennis balls, and carries a giant smile the whole game. She also loves to walk around the yards, checking in with you to see if you are close by. She does enjoy treats, though if she is nervous, she tends to turn them down till she gets her bearings. She likes to be the only pup, and doesn't care to share her space with other animals. She is currently working with a Woof Pack leader on her basic obedience and social skills. She walks decently on a leash, but when she wants to turn back, she is quite stubborn. Kora needs quite a bit of patience, as she tries to figure out her surroundings. If you are interested in being the supportive, loving, patient home for this beautiful girl, please submit an application (no commitment) at Satchelslastresort.org.

Story
84 pounds with an even bigger heart!! Big Billy is a dapper, dappled three-legged gentleman who loves head scratches, belly rubs, butt pats and kisses. In other words, this handsome boy allows all the love from all types of people. He's a happy-go-lucky boy with constant tail wags and sweet, slobbery kisses (with your permission, of course). He's mastered the head nudge to politely ask for more affection and is happiest when he can be by your side. He enjoys resting his head on your lap for scratches between his brows and will snuggle right up with you in bed! His light green eyes and merle coat are stunning, too! Big Billy is crate-trained, housebroken, and walks well–with just a little pulling–on his leash. We're working on that! He's easy to redirect and listens like a champ. He comes when called and knows commands like sit, stay and wait. While we don't know Billy's history or how he ended up living on the streets, we can tell somebody taught this well-mannerd doggy to be a “good boy”! Big Billy has been in foster care with two adults--a male and female--and a 8-year-old child who he is particularly fond of and absolutely adores. He has a tail-wagging good time meeting strangers and won't hesitate to flop over for a belly rub from the get-go. Big Billy's enthusiasm for small dogs and cats is endearing, but his curiosity may come off as intimidating for cats & little dogs on the receiving end. His laid-back, easy-going personality has good potential for getting along well with other canine companions though he'd be just fine as the only dog in the home as he does love people!  Big Billy was found in February of 2024 as a stray with a broken leg and brought into the county shelter. Our best guess is he was hit by a car. Unfortunately, due to the severity of the fracture, and the length of time he had the broken bone before he found his way into foster care, amputation was his best option. He had the surgery on April 16th, 2024 and adjusted immediately to living life on 3-legs. He is still building up endurance on walks, but minus being quick to exhaust, he's a perfectly happy, healthy ham without any special needs or medical issues post-amputation.  Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.February 22, 2025, 10:45 pm

She’s dog-friendly, cat-approved, and people-obsessed—in the best way, of course! We haven’t tested her with kids yet, but we’re pretty sure she’d be their new favorite sibling.   Tuna is smart and eager to please (aka super easy to train), though she’s still brushing up on a few things. But honestly, all she wants is LOVE. All day. Every day. Forever.  If you’ve ever dreamed of having a little shadow following you around, gazing at you like you hung the moon , Tuna is ready to take on the job.   She’s currently at Animal Doctors of South Tampa, but what she really needs is a foster or a foster-to-adopt home where she can shine. Story
Allman is the definition of a Boxer, from his looks to his personality traits! This 8-year-old boy is always looking for opportunity to play, and loves making everything a game. He is a great ball player and may not always bring it back, but his enthusiasm keeps the game going. He enjoys carrying toys around wherever he goes, squeaky toys are super fun, but Kong toys are also wonderful. He also has a prankster side with shoes and likes to untie your laces when you are walking. He is loyal to his friends here at Satchel's but can be a bit picky. He takes a little time to get to know people and, although he is high energy, he prefers a calm first-time meeting. Allman has a Woof Pack leader here at Satchel's and they are working on his acceptance of new people. Once accepted, Allman is a loving, playful, intelligent boy who can't wait to be with you. He walks very well on a leash and loves going on adventures. He knows his basic commands and with treats, he can do them with a swiftness. Allman would be the perfect canine companion for someone who loves being active or has a love for and understanding of the Boxer breed. He would do well with a fenced in yard, or multiple walks to get some of the energy down. For an appointment to meet Allman, please submit the adoption application (no-commitment) found on our website, www.satchelslastresort.org, and an adoption counselor will be in touch.

Story
This happy girl lives up to her name, a sassy personality indeed. Sassafras is an adult beauty, with a brilliant smile that brightens anyone's day. She is the life of the party and loves to be the center of attention. She can not wait to go outside and either go in the yards and sniff everything possible, or go on a brisk walk, leading the way. Sassy is protective of her space and loyal to her friends but will welcome new people into her circle with a slow introduction. She doesn't seem to mind the company of some canines, but we have found her to be selective and she would prefer to have the people all to herself. She adores toys and goes for the stuffed squeaky toys every time. She will chase balls to the point of exhaustion but her favorite past time is water play. When given the opportunity, she loves splashing in a wading pool, chasing the spray of a hose and swimming in the bay. She is very treat motivated, which is helpful in her learning of basic obedience. Curling up in a comfy bed or cuddled up with a friend is the best way to end her day. If you're looking for that missing piece of love in your life, Sassafras could be the perfect dose to fill your heart. For an appointment to meet Sassafras, please submit the adoption application (no commitment) found on our website, www.satchelslastresort.org, and an adoption counselor will be in touch.

Story
Looking like a hairless wonder, is our boy Brodie. While his looks may not do him justice, this little guy has a heart of gold. Coming from a pretty poor background, it has taken some time to get this pup used to being just that, a dog again. He was terrified of water, avoiding anything other than his water bowl. His skin was in desperate need of healing, and medicated baths were a top priority. With the help of staff and volunteers, his skin is looking so much better, even if his hair has not come back. He was also not very social, and did not understand what we were doing in just an attempt to pet him. He is now showing affection with those he trusts, looking forward to those butt scratches and head pets that he feared in the beginning. He absolutely loves food, which is helpful in his training. He is muzzle trained, after working hard with a staff member, which has made certain things easier for both Brodie and those helping. He has been in playgroup and has made quite a few canine companions. We would love to continue watching Brodie progress and be a confident, caring, loving dog that we all know he is. If you are interested in helping us make this dream come true, and have a place in your heart for a truly special dog, please submit an adoption application (no commitment) at Satchelslastresort.org.
