Story
Meet Opie! A spirited five-and-a-half-year-old American Staffordshire Terrier mix from West Haven, CT, whose heart is as big as his 67-pound fawn brindle frame, complete with an adorable white patch on his chest. Opie is the kind of dog who knows how to balance adventure with affection—whether he’s conquering hiking trails, riding shotgun on car trips, or snuggling up on the couch with his favorite blanket. Opie is a brainy, athletic guy with a solid foundation of professional training under his belt. He’s house-trained, off-leash ready, and fluent in an impressive list of commands like sit, stay, down, come, place, and even "give hug"—yes, he’ll literally jump into your arms for a cuddle! He’s eager to learn, deeply loyal, and thrives with structure and companionship. While he does have a sensitive stomach, he’s otherwise in excellent health, fully vaccinated, neutered, and microchipped. Opie’s perfect day includes a game of tug-of-war, basking in the sunshine, or curling up for a nap with his beloved blanket. But he’s just as happy lounging at your feet while you work. He’s a flexible, go-with-the-flow kind of guy, but he really shines when he gets regular exercise and mental stimulation. Now, Opie’s story does come with a chapter that needs thoughtful understanding. He has a bite history rooted in fear and anxiety, particularly when his trusted person isn’t around. It’s been over a year since his last incident, and when he’s with someone confident and calm, Opie looks to them for reassurance and settles quickly. Because of this, Opie needs an experienced, dog-savvy caregiver who can offer both structure and comfort. Opie prefers to be the star of the show in a home without other pets or with a very neutral canine companion. He hasn’t been around children or cats, so a quiet, adult household would suit him best. A fenced yard or safe space for off-leash play would be ideal. Are you the confident, loving companion Opie needs to continue his journey? If you think you’re the perfect match for this affectionate, loyal adventurer, reach out to adopt@joyfulpets.com—we can’t wait to hear from you!

Story
***Carol's adoption fee is $150 thanks to a generous donation!*** Carol was found as a stray on the streets of Boston and no one came looking for her. She had clearly recently had babies.  Carol is fiercely loyal and is looking for someone who will be loyal to her in return. She has a big bark which makes her feel proud and protective of her people. However, once strangers enter the space, she is all wiggles.  Carol is your typical pittie. She runs cold on the winter and prefers to be on the couch under blankets. She doesn’t know what personal space is and loves to hug, give kisses and stand over your entire body while you are trying to work on your laptop. She is looking for a strong, stable love and she deserves nothing less. Carol is very agile, like a doe, and for this reason we are recommending kids ages 13+. She likes to jump when she is excited, but she is definitely smart enough to learn not to with consistent training. She is quiet in her kennel and potty trained. We'd also recommend a home with either submissive male dog(s) or as an only dog. ##2266055##

Story
Morty`s adoption fee has been graciously sponsored by a local family!Hi, Morty here! I`ve found myself back at the shelter for the third time due to my owner`s health issues. I`m reliably house trained and crate trained. I prefer having some nice blankets in my crate so I can make a nest. I was allowed on the furniture in my previous home as well. I lived with a female dog a long time ago and may be willing to do so again, but would do best in a home without any small animals. I`m very affectionate and love hanging out with the kennel staff. I`m looking for a retirement home to take me on some nice walks and then curl up on the couch. Could I be the dog for you?Dogs: Potentially mellow female dogCats: No! No small animals including dogs, rats, birds, guinea pigs, bunnies, etc. Kids: 10+Weight: 60
