Story
Myla was adopted but had to be brought back due to a new landlord's rule on no dogs. She is a sweet girl who does love a large yard to roam and explore. She does play with other dogs and does well with cats. She has not been around small children but did okay with older kids. She was house trained with a dog door but does like to hang outside. She is just a great gal to have around for yard protection and outside fun. She is located in Tennessee but can be transported to you through Rescue Riders.

Story
Here is a sweet boy who is doing well in a foster home. He is house trained with a doggy door but will need to be taught a different routine if there is no door. He does well with cats and other dogs. He does like to jump so small kids will need to be careful. He must be kept busy as he does like to chew and have things to do. He does appreciate sleeping on a human bed but is fine on a dog bed also. He does well on a leash and on car rides. He is just a big sweet boy who is needing a family who can keep him occupied (farm, walks, outdoor activities, etc....) He just wants his forever family and we know there's one out there. He is located in Tennessee but can be transported to you through Rescue Riders.

Story
Come meet adoptable dogs every Saturday and Sunday from 10 AM - 4 PM at our Adoption Center located at 11116 Fairfax Station Rd. Fairfax Station, VA 22039. We can also schedule time to meet a specific dog at the Adoption Center during the week by appointment - just fill out the application and we will follow up with you! For animals in foster homes, please submit an online application and a member of our Adoptions team will reply with next steps. If you are interested in adopting this dog, please fill out our dog adoption questionnaire and e-mail it to: barroso.selma@gmail.com Sudi is a super amazing dog from Iran , where she endured horrible cruelty that we cannot even begin to fathom. As a working farm dog, when she did not perform to her owner's satisfaction he cut off her front paws, dragged her behind a car and hit and kicked her. How she lived we do not know. But thankfully, an Iranian loving person rescued her and through a lot of hard work, Sudi left Iran for Canada and then made her way to us here at Homeward Trails. She recently was fitted for prosthetic feet and is doing remarkably well in them, getting a new lease on life that allows her to be more mobile. While we thought she may need hip surgery to replace her hip socket, we are currently waiting on that per her veterinarian orthopedist's suggestion to have a specialist determine if it is workable. For now, she remains on pain meds and steroids to address the issue, which may end up being her long-term solution. Sudi needs an adoptive family. She is great with all people but does not like other animals enough to live with them. It may be her low-level pain or fear but we have tried and we now know she wishes to be an only animal. This girl is a truly remarkable example of endurance and spirit. That she even trusts humans at all after what has been done to her is truly, truly inspiring. She will do best in a home with few stairs - or least a home where she can get inside/outside without many. She would love a yard where she can lounge in the sun. Whatever orthopedic issues come her way in the near future in terms of surgery will be covered by Homeward Trails. We are proud to partner with the following veterinarians who offer a free first exam for your animal, exclusively for HT adopters: Caring Hands Animal Hospital, Palisades Veterinary Clinic, Sunshine Animal Hospital and Clarendon Animal Care and all VCA Animal Hospitals. Additionally, any VCA hospital will cover illnesses up to $250 at no cost to any Homeward Trails adopter. We also provide free online workshop with a professional dog trainer at Fur-Get Me Not within the first 30 days of adopting - just for HT adopters in the Arlington/Alexandria/Falls Church/DC area. Start your new dog out on the right foot with this valuable, expert guidance FREE! You can save animals like this one by becoming a foster! Story
Dior is Christmas baby and will be 2 years old December 20th. He does need to be the only animal in the home as he wants all the love and attention for himself. He has a lot of energy and will do best in an active family to help him release that energy. He recently went on a hike with our Volunteer Coordinator and she said he did great in the car and LOVED smelling all the smells and being engaged with the outdoors. He loves all people and we have been told he has lived with kids. He is a bigger pup and gets the zoomies and can get a bit nippy sometimes. He walks ok on leash but could use some training. Training would be a great way to keep him engaged and to teach him some basic manners. He also very treat motivated which will help with the training. He is a known escape artist and has scaled a 5 foot fence before so he should never be left unattended outside even if there is a fence. He is super sweet and smart and will make a great family dog with a family that is willing to put in a little extra work and patience with him. He is neutered, microchipped, and up to date on vaccines. Interested in adopting? Story
Cupcake was returned due to no fault of hers or the adopters. She is around 3 years old and the sweetest pup! She doesn't realize her size and just wants to be a lap dog! She has lived with kids and is great with them, but with her not realizing her size she may accidentally knock the littles over. We would like the kiddos to come to the meet and greet to make sure everyone is comfortable. She walks great on leash and enjoys being outside sniffing all the things and getting pets from her human along the way. She is said to be good with dogs and has previously lived with one. We will require a dog test with your current pups. We are unsure of her with cats, super slow introductions and patience is the best way to give them time to get used to each other. She rides great in the car. She is spayed, microchipped, up to date on vaccines, and has had her stomach stapled. Interested in adopting?
