Come meet adoptable dogs every Saturday and Sunday from 10 AM - 4 PM at our Adoption Center located at 11116 Fairfax Station Rd. Fairfax Station, VA 22039. We can also schedule time to meet a specific dog at the Adoption Center during the week by appointment - just fill out the application and we will follow up with you! For animals in foster homes, please submit an online application and a member of our Adoptions team will reply with next steps. If you are interested in adopting this dog, please fill out our dog adoption questionnaire and e-mail it to: barroso.selma@gmail.com Sudi is a super amazing dog from Iran , where she endured horrible cruelty that we cannot even begin to fathom. As a working farm dog, when she did not perform to her owner's satisfaction he cut off her front paws, dragged her behind a car and hit and kicked her. How she lived we do not know. But thankfully, an Iranian loving person rescued her and through a lot of hard work, Sudi left Iran for Canada and then made her way to us here at Homeward Trails. She recently was fitted for prosthetic feet and is doing remarkably well in them, getting a new lease on life that allows her to be more mobile. While we thought she may need hip surgery to replace her hip socket, we are currently waiting on that per her veterinarian orthopedist's suggestion to have a specialist determine if it is workable. For now, she remains on pain meds and steroids to address the issue, which may end up being her long-term solution. Sudi needs an adoptive family. She is great with all people but does not like other animals enough to live with them. It may be her low-level pain or fear but we have tried and we now know she wishes to be an only animal. This girl is a truly remarkable example of endurance and spirit. That she even trusts humans at all after what has been done to her is truly, truly inspiring. She will do best in a home with few stairs - or least a home where she can get inside/outside without many. She would love a yard where she can lounge in the sun. Whatever orthopedic issues come her way in the near future in terms of surgery will be covered by Homeward Trails. We are proud to partner with the following veterinarians who offer a free first exam for your animal, exclusively for HT adopters: Caring Hands Animal Hospital, Palisades Veterinary Clinic, Sunshine Animal Hospital and Clarendon Animal Care and all VCA Animal Hospitals. Additionally, any VCA hospital will cover illnesses up to $250 at no cost to any Homeward Trails adopter. We also provide free online workshop with a professional dog trainer at Fur-Get Me Not within the first 30 days of adopting - just for HT adopters in the Arlington/Alexandria/Falls Church/DC area. Start your new dog out on the right foot with this valuable, expert guidance FREE! You can save animals like this one by becoming a foster! Fosters are like way stations between high kill shelters and forever homes. We need fosters so that we can save dogs before they are euthanized at the shelters. Story
Scooby stole hearts everywhere when a video surfaced of him freshly abandoned on a hiking trail, voiceless from crying at every stranger who walked by. Dehydrated and desperate, he followed a good Samaritan, begging to be saved. Thankfully, they didn’t have the heart to leave him behind and brought him to safety. When we agreed to take Scooby in, we had no idea what a character we were getting! This intelligent and mischievous pup quickly made an impression. On his first day in a foster home, he was sent packing for being too smart for his own good! Scooby then went to boarding, where his knack for getting into trouble earned him a one-way ticket to boot camp. At boot camp, Scooby’s true potential began to shine. This boy thrives on learning and loves to please his humans! His tail wagged nonstop as he eagerly mastered commands with his trainer, and now he’s ready to show off his skills as a “good boy.” Now settled in Richmond, VA, Scooby is on the hunt for someone who appreciates a sharp, energetic dog that’s ready to work, play, and bond. At just a year old, Scooby’s personality is larger than life—you can’t help but feel there’s a little human soul inside his expressive body. If you’re ready for the challenge of keeping up with a dog as clever as Scooby-Doo, this incredible pup might just be your perfect match!

Story
Coco (now Roxy) is a sweet and playful one-year-old shepherd mix who loves to show affection with gentle head butts and can’t resist her squeaky toys. She’s a smart girl who’s already learning to stay on her bed and picks up new things quickly. Roxy enjoys running and playing, so she would do best in a home with a fenced yard and plenty of space to explore. She gets along well with other dogs and has a friendly, loving personality with people. If you’re looking for a loyal and intelligent companion who’s ready to learn and love, Roxy might be the perfect match!

Story
Meet Harley! 🐾 Harley’s journey began at the shelter, where he arrived frightened and unsure of the world around him, clinging closely to his sister, Coco. His eyes were wide with worry, and every new sound made him flinch. But with patience, love, and the comforting presence of Coco, Harley has come such a long way. 🌟 Today, Harley is a completely different boy! He’s blossomed into a sweet and gentle soul who craves affection and enjoys the simple joys of life—like belly rubs, cozy blankets, and sunbathing by the window. His timid days are behind him, and he’s grown into a confident and very nice boy who knows how to trust again. ❤️ Not only is Harley house-trained, but he’s also made peace with the resident cats, proving just how far he’s come. He’s respectful and calm, happy to coexist without any fuss. 🐱🤍 But what Harley wants more than anything is to stay with his sister, Coco. Their bond is unbreakable, built on shared experiences and the comfort they bring each other. Finding a home that welcomes them both would make Harley's dreams come true. 🏡💞 If you have room in your heart and home for two loving souls, Harley and Coco would fill your days with double the love and gratitude. 🥰

Story
Juke, a one year old, rib showing, 90lbs Anatolian Shepherd mix who is looking for a foster or an adopter that will help him add about 10-15 lbs to his too lean of a figure and give him a loving home to decompress after having been in the shelter for so long. Looking at his age, body structure, and his back paws, we will venture to say there’s a Pyrenees in the bloodline somewhere. What do we know about him? -Easy/loose leash walking boy does he love his walks! -Very playful -Gentle treat taking and loves treats -Low to medium energy but watch out for the zoomies -Dog tested with no negative reaction -Can become mouthy when super excited but responds to corrections. -A home with small children is not ideal as he will knock them down. Videos: https://youtu.be/Xew5GZTtTRM https://youtu.be/7FCB1BNQIKo REMINDER: A dog described as low to medium energy, whose body is beginning to adjust to better nutrition, can turn into a very energetic pup once his system heals. To foster you must be within 30 miles maximum from zipcode 20906, and be able to bring your foster dog to our vet in Burtonsville or Silver Spring. Application here: https://bit.ly/4d7XoKd Adoption radius 60 miles from zipcode 20906. We do not promote any of our dogs as house trained or allergy friendly.
