Story
(DOB 07/22/2023) Meet this lovable companion! Winnie is such a sweet girl who absolutely loves giving hugs and kisses. She’s always ready for a car ride and enjoys going with you whenever she can. She is happy to sit in the back seat and doesn't need to ride "shotgun." She is a great travel companion for sure. She’s good with kids and other people, though sometimes her enthusiasm can be overwhelming. When she runs to greet someone, it can startle them, especially when she wants to jump up. This is something she’s working on, as she knows it’s not always well-received. Just know Winnie is doing it out of immense joy! Her excitment boils over to walks as well and she is working on her leash manners and getting better but will need to continued practice and good routine. Winnie is quite the little athlete! She has LOTS of happy, energy and loves all kinds of sports. Some of her favorites are chasing and retrieving balls, leaping high in the air to catch nerf frisbees and herding two huge herding balls. She can spin them up off of her nose, roll them off her back, and then snag the handle to take it back for another toss. She is also exceptional at juggling balloons and playing balloon volleyball if it is not too windy outside and sometimes even inside. Winnie is a master at being gentle and can make a balloon last a long time! Winnie also loves the water and jumping in to cool off. Winnie enjoys sitting on the couch next to her humans while they chill and watch movies together. She also loves to sleep on the bed when she wants, but she’s very respectful of personal space. In the mornings, she’ll snuggle up for some “puppy love” before starting the day. When she doesn’t sleep on the bed, she’s happy to rest on the couch. Despite trying three different dog beds, she just doesn’t seem to enjoy them. Some other silly, fun and unique things about sweet Winnie, a little quirk is her love for small trash cans—she’ll sneak into them if they’re within reach, so they always have to be covered or kept out of sight. She’s also a fantastic communicator! When she needs something, she’ll stare at you or smack her lips until you figure it out. And one of the best things about her: she’s a great guard dog. She barks when there’s something important to alert you to, but she doesn’t bark endlessly for no reason. That’s one of the things her humans love most about her! When it comes to other dogs, she can be what may be "jealous" of her special person, so she might do better with another dog if she’s not around her owner. Winnie may be best suited as an only dog or with a family that is familar with slow and proper introductions and monitored playtime. Winnie has gotten along with dogs, but if they run, she’ll definitely chase after them—because, let’s face it, most dogs love "the chase!" She’d do best with a dog who’s calm and confident to stand their ground. Winnie has some hops for sure and can amaze you with her ability to jump fences so if there is a fenced yard it should be 6ft or she should be on a leash. Winnie has the best ears and is always listening intently to anything you say! She is a great little partner if you work from home or are home a good amount of time. She also has the cutest pink "lips" that look like she is always ready to give you a kiss! No matter what’s happening, she wants to be right by your side. You'd be a winner if you adopted Winnie for sure! If you are ready to love Winnie as much as her foster has, and get so much joy and love in return, then fill out an application today!  As part of Winnie’s $300 adoption fee, she will be spayed, microchipped, up to date on age-appropriate vaccines, and current on her monthly flea/tick and heartworm preventatives. If you have questions about this sweet little girl, you can email  Dogteam@pawsforlifenc.org.  If you wish to adopt Winnie, you can fill in an online application for her under the Adopt a Pet Tab on our website:  www.pawsforlifenc.org. ##2307175##

Sweet, sassy and speckled...meet Arya a gorgeous gal on the look out for the perfect family! Arya is a cattle dog mix who is a young adult weighing about 30 lbs full grown. This girl is a picture of her breed mix. She is smart and super active and ready to learn, be on the go and find her best friends in life. Arya is so pretty she prefers to be the only doggo gal in the home and does well with male doggo friends. She loves to romp and play and would be a fabulous running partner if you were so inclined. Arya is all about you and your people...hopefully her people...and will put her best paw forward all of the time to make you so thankful she came your way. *Weekend Host feedback: "It was an absolute joy to host Arya this weekend! She is a spunky and incredibly happy girl. She’s also a dynamic girly who loves play and running around while also being a huge cuddle bug. She absolutely loves people and warmed up to my presence quickly. She was great in the crate at night and very calm in the car. She also knew to do all of her business outside with no accidents in the house".

Story
Ringo is a 5 year old Red Heeler fully house trained. Very sweet, active and craves attention and love. We adopted him when he was 1 1/2 years old but can no longer give him the care and attention he needs due to recent health issues. He gets along well with other dogs and frequently goes to doggy day care and has never had any issues. He gets very excited when he sees people and can seem aggressive but he has never bitten anyone. If you have never heard of this bread please research them before replying to this. They are very loveable and protective but they are high energy and require a lot of exercise.

Story
CarsonNeutered Male DogGood with dogsNo children/children over 14 onlyHousetrainedCrate-trainedWeight 45.0About Carson: Meet Carson, a.k.a. our little teddy bear, a pint-sized cattle dog mix who is full ofpersonality! This sweet boy embodies the typical cattle dog personality – always ready to be in the mixof things and always making sure his humans are keeping his days filled with his favorite things: chewtoys, outside zoomie times, walkies, and of course dinner! Carson is full of energy when its time to play, but also loves a good snuggle (on his terms of course) when its time for TV and bed. True to cattle dogform, he is full of opinions on where he and his humans should be and needs reminding to keep mouthyplay under control. For that reason, we recommend households with older/no children.Training and Habits:Potty Training: Carson has been doing great with his potty training! He had a few accidents in hisfirst weeks in foster (mostly marking), but those have become few and far between as he’sgotten used to the swing of things. And he’s been accident free since his neuter!Crate: Toss a treat in the crate, and Carson will go in happily. He does not like to be forced intothe crate, and will give you a growl/look back. He sleeps quietly in his crate at night, but willbark for a couple minutes if you put him in during the day and he hears you still moving about.Leash: Carson’s getting the hang of things on a leash. He has an old hip injury (see health below),so we’ve been keeping walks on the shorter side and letting him choose the pace. He’s beenworking on loose leash walking – so far a lot of pulling with excitement at the start, but heresponds well to you stopping when you hit the end of the leash. On a leash, he shows interestin other dogs, but passes them well and has been non-reactive.Playtime: Like most cattle dogs, Carson has spurts of high energy! He redirects to toys well whenhe gets mouthy. So far, he’s been excellent at chasing balls but we’re still working on theretrieving. He also loves playing gentle tugs with us or playing hard with our cattle dog mix.Cuddles and Comfort: Carson loves being near his family! He does whine a bit when we/our dog leaves, but will settle after a few minutes. He is a constant companion, and loves curling up in your lap whenyou sit on the ground. He also will come snuggle on the couch with a big ole leap from all four paws atonce! He does have opinions on surprise snuggles though, and will let you know if you invade his spacewith a growl.Exercise Needs: Since Carson has an old hip injury, we try to keep his higher impact activities self-directed. He gets his zoomies out in our backyard, and plays hard with our pup. We try to keep his walksto 1 mile or less a few times per week, although he may be able to build on this. We keep his mind busywith Kongs/lick mats and we’re working on teaching him to take treats gently since we think this smartguy would take pretty well to trick training!Ideal Home: Carson’s ideal home is somewhere where he can be with his people and safely get hiszoomies out! Since we worry that daily long walks may be hard on his hip, he’d probably do best in ahome where he has a fenced yard or daily access to an enclosed outdoor space. He gets along well withour spayed female dog, but we also think he’d be fine with his humans all to himself! Adults only or ahome with respectful, older children is best since he is mouthy with play and has opinions about hisbodily autonomy.Health: Carson is neutered, microchipped, dewormed and up-to-date on his shots. He is heartwormpositive and going through treatment. He also has a broken pelvis that healed on its own slightly out ofplace. This does cause him some pain that is well managed with a low-cost pain med regime. SecondChance is happy to provide your vet with his x-rays and discuss this treatment plan.***Please Note: All the available dogs listed on our website are getting spoiled in private foster homes. If someone has caught your eye and you wish to arrange a meet and greet, we do need you to fill out the adoption application. When your adoption application is received our screening team will verify the information given. Once your application has been confirmed and approved, we will be send it over to the foster parent for review to determine if your home is a good match for the dog. In the event one lucky dog receives multiple applications, please know we do not select based on a first come basis. We try our best to select the best-fit for our animals and families. ***
