Story
In September 2022, my partner and I adopted a three-month-old puppy from the SPCA in Charlottesville, Virginia. Initially shy and anxious, Albus was listed as a Labrador, but a DNA test revealed he was a mix: 53% Australian Cattle dog, 19% Australian Shepherd, 17% Rottweiler, and 10% American Bulldog. Albus (now almost 2.5 years old) is a sweet, fun, and challenging dog. He is challenging due to his reactivity around strangers, which has improved greatly over the last year. We love Albus, and wish we did not have to rehome him - but we need to relocate for career purposes, and would also like to start a family. Having a baby, and managing a challenging dog is more than we feel we can handle. Albus would be a perfect companion in a home where he has space to run and play fetch, with no young children, and an experienced dog owner who can continue to train him. Because he can be reactive to strangers, a home that does not have lots of new people coming by would be more ideal.

Story
We adopted Lola as an 8-week old puppy - who was already spayed - in September 2021. She is active, energetic, playful, alert, remarkably agile and athletic, and nervous. She is housetrained but has below-average bladder tolerance, so we cannot leave the house for more than 6 hours at a time, which is problematic for our away-from-home commitments. With her energy level, I believe she needs a job as a farm dog, agility dog, or service dog, or to live with someone who is very physically active and will take her along. Additionally, she has had a very delicate stomach from birth which results in nearly weekly vomiting episodes. She is on a prescription food and we even tried hydrolyzed protein, neither of which worked. All of her vet tests come back normal, so I think it's just a delicate stomach. If she could graze feed, that might fix the problem. With our other dog, though, that's not an option.

Story
He is 3 years old and was adopted from Cville SPCA at 2 years old. They did not give us any info except he had anxiety and he had anxiety pills. He’s lived with us for a year now. Habanero needs wide open spaces to run or someone who will walk miles and play fetch for energy release. He loves tennis balls and playing fetch. Hates strangers and very protective of his home. He has lived with small kids (18mo & 3yo) and chickens. He will get into things and chew if he’s bored or hasn’t had his outside time but he’s only 3. He needs someone who understands his breed, has patience and time. He is not a cuddly, lazy dog. He is extremely smart and has great potential. I’ve been diagnosed with an autoimmune disease and my energy can’t keep up.

Story
WHEW! This guy is wide open! Bear was an "owner surrender" because his previous owners couldn't handle his energy levels. It's true, this guy needs a JOB TO DO! Pulling sleds? Maybe! Farm chores, carrying groceries, perimeter checks, sports - he'd be happiest doing SOMETHING to get that energy out! Not to mention running around, playing fetch, hiking, cross country jogging....did we mention RUNNING? That's what this boy needs - ROOM to RUN! He's a sweetheart, though, so don't think otherwise! He loves cuddling and belly rubs! Bear is a big boy with lots of love to give - he needs an active home immediately! Bear lived with kids before, but because he's so high energy, we recommend a home with kids he can't run over. We have no idea how he'd deal with kitties, but our instinct is to recommend no cats. >Neutered 1/21/25< updated 1/21/25

Story
Stella is a sweet and gentle 5-year-old Australian Cattle Dog mix with a heart as big as her soft, soulful eyes. Though she can be shy at first, once she gets to know you, Stella will shower you with love, cuddles, and plenty of sweet kisses! Stella came to us from a difficult dog-hoarding situation where she lived with over 15 other dogs. This high-stress environment left her needing time to feel safe and comfortable in new surroundings. But once she warms up, her affectionate and loyal nature truly shines. One of Stella’s favorite activities is running and playing in our Bark Park with her kennel mate, Thumper, and her buddy, Oswald. She seems to do well with other dogs but appreciates a patient introduction to let her trust and confidence grow. Stella is already spayed, fully vaccinated, microchipped, and on monthly flea, tick, and heartworm prevention, so she’s ready to go to her forever home! It’s important to note that Stella has luxating patellas (loose kneecaps) in both her back legs, a condition that may require surgery as she gets older. Stella does have an anti-inflammatory that she takes when her knees "act up." This condition may also cause arthritis to set in earlier in life. Despite this, she remains active, happy, and full of life! If you’re looking for a loyal companion who will reward your patience with endless love and devotion, Stella could be the perfect match. Come meet her today—your new best friend is waiting!
