Greetings from Sammy! This handsome boy has two modes: snuggle mode and walkie mode. Sammy spends most of his time at at the Center lying on the bench in his room people-watching, wondering which lucky human will pick him to call their own! With staff he waits patiently to be included in someone's walk, and when someone finally comes in, he greets them with happy tippy taps and face kisses. He's such a cuddle bug and loves butt scratches the most. Second to that, he loves going for relaxing walks to spend time with his friends. Sammy with his short and stout stature, show-stopping eyes, and sweet quiet demeanor has become a favorite office dog of a couple of our managers here at LHS. Here's what one of them said about him: "Sammy is the perfect companion dog. He loves to nap and hang out but still has a sparkle in his eye for playing gently with his toys! When I leave my office and come back, he's so excited to see me and wiggles, but never makes a peep when I'm gone because he loves his comfortable spaces. Sammy is the epitome of a chill dog and anyone would be lucky to take him home!" Stop by to meet Sammy today or email adoption@lynchburghumane.org!

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Hale has been with foster caregiver for over a year now. He has always lived outdoors, and is satisfied with having a fenced area all to himself, although he does tolerate visits from other canines. He is lovingly called “Old Man” and even though he can be crotchety, he has had a rough time and we forgive him. (Hale recently lost his human, and was one of eight working dogs left behind. The others have found homes with adopters or rescues, but Hale has a tough time adapting.)   The teens in this family have spent time working to befriend him, and have seem him happy and wiggly as well as the “don’t touch my backside” side of him. We would love for him to find a home with a farm, where he can work if he wants to, and hang out if he wants to. He does not need to be in a home as he has always been outside. He did visit another home for about two weeks, and we hoped it might work as a Forever situation, but unfortunately, old man focused on the rabbits who lived in the house, and all he could think about was pursuit. He was doing well with his house training in the time he was there, so we feel like if an outdoor home is not necessarily ideal, he could live in a house if he wanted to as long as he had access to the outdoors.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.August 19, 2024, 12:11 pm

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Sammy is a tiny female cattle dog, spayed, and super with other dogs! She doesn’t care if they are bigger than she is, if they are male or female, or what color or breed they are. She just likes being around other dogs. She has also proven that she can live with cats in a cat-friendly environment. Sammy’s foster mom has seen great progress since taking her in a couple months ago. Sammy loves hanging out with the other cattle dog in the home, “Old Man” Hale, a standard size cattle dog who has been in our care for a year now.          Sammy is a six year old “mini” sized Australian cattle dog whose uneventful life was filled with producing puppies, litter after litter, in an outdoor kennel area.  Sammy will need a physically fenced area, (no invisible fences for her!)  and she will benefit from another nice dog, on the smaller side rather than large. She has finally accepted both female dogs and male dogs, huge progress for her! And she wants a dog that is not going to be in her face or jumping all over her. That’s not too much to ask, is it? Sammy has been spayed, and has recovered nicely. We don’t know that she has any working dog instinct, since she was a puppy producer for her life. She did meet the shelter cat and was interested with no attempt to chase or eat him, which we think is promising! Sammy weighs about 30 pounds, is heartworm negative, and his current with vaccines. She is trying hard to be house trained! Because she was an outdoor dog before coming to the shelter, pottying outdoors is only natural. She has overcome being handshy and we worked hard to give her plenty of time to become comfortable with her new people.  To adopt, start with an application from our website: friendsofcampbellcounty.org. Sammy was brought to the shelter with two other friends from her family home. She lived with other dogs, and is a little stressed being at the shelter in a kennel run, since she was an outdoor dog at her first home. If you have patience and are willing to spend time with this little girl, teaching her to walk on a leash and get used to a collar, it might work really well for you! She is not going to be a dog that you can take home and have a best-friend companion immediately, because she has not been well socialized with new people or new situations in a house. We look forward to getting to know her better.     PLEASE NOTE: This pet has been posted by Friends of Campbell County Animal Control, Rustburg, VA. For questions about the pet, please email us at FOACinfo@gmail.com. All adoptions begin with an application, found under the "Animals" tab on our website, friendsofcampbellcounty.org. *Unaltered babies under the age of six months can be adopted only to residents of Campbell County, the City of Lynchburg, and counties touching Campbell County. *Unaltered adult pets six months or older will need to be sterilized before they can be adopted outside our local area of Campbell County, the City of Lynchburg, or counties touching Campbell. *We do not promote dog adoptions to homes where an invisible fence is the fencing of choice. *We do not permit cats or kittens to be declawed following adoption.  Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.August 19, 2024, 12:11 pm

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Four month old cattle dog mix, Dakota! Check him out! Not only is he adorable and cute, he’s also quite a hit with his Foster Mom who has been working to train him along with her other dogs. He has a tripod dog since he came to us within injury that had healed badly from his past. You just never know what dogs go through before they come to a shelter! He’s not yet neutered, but that can be done after adoption if you’re interested in taking him home. He is not at the shelter, and once an application has been received and  approved, we would be happy to set up a meet and greet for him. 3 months old, appears to be an ACD/pittie mix, energetic and with no bite inhibition. He was picked up as a stray on Sunburst Road on April 23, and spent a couple days with our friends at the Bedford County animal shelter before being transferred to Campbell for care. Because Dakota doesn’t care who he grabs with those sharp little baby teeth, we determined it would  be best for him to be fostered during his hold time, and while we wait for his owner to come forward. Do you know where he belongs? If so, please call the shelter at 434-821-4416. We are currently not worried about placing him, because we really want him to become well adjusted and appropriately behaved before we send him anywhere. PLEASE NOTE: This pet has been posted by Friends of Campbell County Animal Control, Rustburg, VA. For questions about the pet, please email us at FOACinfo@gmail.com. Story
This girl is 26 pounds of energy and love. She had to be captured by the local animal control officer and was prettified. She was lunging and growling and very upset. But something in her eye just pleaded for me to help her. So I picked her up from the shelter and brought her home where George (our cat) helped me show her that humans and other animals are good. George helped her calm down and let her guard down and after about an hour she was giving me lots of kisses. She is hilarious and is definitely a lover. She may need a couple of minutes to feel safe, but once she does, she is glued to you. She is extremely smart, loves to go for rides, walks and hikes or any adventure (we went kayaking) She prefers not to be left alone as she does have some separation anxiety. This little girl is ready for her happily ever after. Please visit funnyfarmpets.org to read all about our TN based rescue and how the adoption process works. Her adoption fee is $325 and if transport is necessary that is an additional $200 We are hoping to find her someone local to TN. She is a special girl who will need a special mom or dad to navigate through her fears. I may end up writing a book about her as she has given me lots of great stories.
