Story
Meet Style and Grace! These ladies are 4 year old mini Australian shepherd mixes who were saved from a commercial breeding facility in Lancaster County. They were given up because they were no longer profitable as breeder mamas. The puppy mill used and abused them until they couldn't anymore and then reached out to us to take them off their hands. It's a story as old as time when it comes to puppy mills, but we will always be there to help our beloved mill mamas. Style and Grace had very difficult lives before coming to us, but they will never spend another winter trying to keep themselves or their puppies warm, never wonder when their next meal will be coming, never have another day where their feet aren't touching grass, and never be wanted for anything more than the love they can give. They will be cherished part of a family, and not a tool to make a greedy person lots of money. They will never have another bad day and we are honored to provide them this comfort in life. They both have started to giving us their trust as well as all their love and gentleness, in true mill mama fashion, and we are confident they will make wonderful family members! They will require a family who understands her past, and is patient with them as they transition to living life in a home and around kind people. Our mill mamas are always extremely special, and we promise you there is no love out there that compares to theirs! This should go without saying, but we require all our animals to be trained using positive reinforcement methods ONLY. Please apply to be considered at our website www.angelsretreat.org!

MERCURY Breed: Australian Shepherd Gender: Male Approximate DOB: 3/11/2019 Size: Medium Weight (Potential): 40 (40) Color: White and blue merle Health: IBS, General anxiety and separation anxiety, crystals in bladder, on prescription food for GI issues and daily medications to manage anxiety. Shedding: Moderate Grooming Needs: Moderate Spayed/Neutered: Yes Good with Dogs: Yes Good with Cats: Unknown Good with Children: No Appropriate for city living: No A secure, physical fence is required. Adopters must live within 30 miles of King of Prussia, PA. Mercury is as sweet as he is handsome and at a young age he had to overcome quite a bit. He was born in a Pennsylvania puppy mill and rescued at 17 weeks of age. He was frightened and had no idea how to live in a home. Over time with a lot of veterinary care, we have found a diet that agrees with his GI system and have worked with our trainer and veterinary behaviorist to manage and treat his severe anxiety. He is a work in progress but has improved with the help of medication. H will likely need medication and prescription food for the rest of his life and will need someone to monitor the crystals in his bladder so he does not develop a blockage which can usually only be fixed with surgery if things get too severe. Mercury loves to play with toys and monitor the yard for "intruders" like birds and squirrels. He needs a very secure, solid 6-foot fence to contain him (he is a climber, jumper and digger) as he needs a yard to burn off his energy but gets a bit overwhelmed on leash walks (this is a work in progress, too). He will flash a huge smile when he greets you and will pretend that he is a tiny lap dog as soon as you sit down. He likes to watch TV but also is really good at catching a ball. Mercury needs a very loving and patient adopter who has an adult-only home and is willing to manage his medical and behavioral issues all while helping him build his confidence. He isn't a dog for the faint of heart, but he will make yours skip a beat as soon as he gives you a hug. *All dogs will go through a transition period after finding a new home and may need a “refresher course” in house-breaking. Story
ABOUT LENNOX Lars and Lennox are 3.5 month old shepherd mixes, weighing about 30 lbs. These sweet, beautiful pups are from a litter of 8 that we saved last month. Their litter quickly went to foster, thankfully avoiding the state-wide Canine Influenza outbreak many shelters are facing. They were examined by our vet this week and have been cleared for adoption from their foster home! In their foster home, they have met adult dogs, children, and shown curiosity with cats. Here is what their foster has to say about them: "Lennox is white with adorable spots and Lars is a blonde beauty! Their sweet, affectionate, and loving personalities are sure to melt hearts. They adore going for walks, playing with each other, and exploring in the backyard. They love meeting people and have done wonderfully with children. Both are very well-mannered when meeting other dogs, trying to play whenever they get the chance! Lennox is learning to walk on a leash and is very good at sitting on command. Lars does a great job coming when called, joyfully sprinting over to you. Their interests include chasing balls or sticks, playing with hard chew toys, and napping. Lennox enjoys being pet and belly rubs. While Lars is a big time snuggler, climbing into your lap. Above all, Lennox and Lars love life!" Lars & Lennox are not a bonded pair and can be adopted separately by-appointment! If you are interested in adopting this dog, please submit an adoption questionnaire! Our adoption process is on a first-come, best-match basis and we are not able to hold animals. If you are interested in this specific dog but it ends up not being the best fit upon meeting, our adoption counselors will work with you to help find a match! All household members, including children and other dogs, must come along for the meeting to make sure it's a good fit. If a match is made, we encourage same-day adoptions! Our adoption fees include the animals' spay/neuter, microchip, age-appropriate vaccinations and preventatives, fecal testing, heartworm testing, and a small bag of food to get you started.
