Story
Name: Gandalf
Nicknames: Gandy. Meatloaf. Netball. Meat-za. Lil Caesar. Sir Julius Caesar. Mr. Meats.
Reminds us of: He may be called Gandalf, but he's giving Gollum mixed with dinosaur mixed with baked potato.
Breed: Bulldog mix/Bully mix.
Age: ~ 2 years
Weight: ~ 50 lbs.
Before OMD: Found himself in the city shelter with his two other Bully mix housemates (who were parvo positive and rescued by another group) - his skin and eyes were in rough shape. The shelter then reached out to us for help and we were able to get him straight to our vet, where he thankfully tested negative for parvo, but did need treatment for his skin and ear infections and then entropian surgery.
Energy Level: Generally, it's basement level low. He could not be less athletic or slow.
Life motto: Do less.
Affection Level: Attic level high. He is proudly cuddly and affectionate. He wants to be near his people at all times, preferably on top of them. His chin also must have a pillow, and he prefers that pillow to be your lap.
What we love most: When it’s time to go outside for the last time before bed, he will roll on his back to try to solicit belly rubs instead of getting up. If you squat and open your arms he will RUN from wherever he is directly to you. The way he runs makes every witness to his "run" laugh - his front arms swing side to side. The way his tongue sticks out when he sleeps - if you boop it, he tucks it in.
What he loves most: Sleeping in front of the fireplace. Snuggling. Soliciting all the pets. Gnawing on Benebones. Destroying toys. Finding the sunspots to lie in. Seeing his humans wake up and realizing it's the morning, so that means it's a whole new day to get pet.
What he dislikes: The cold. The vacuum (and other loud machines). Slowly coming around to the hairdryer...
Kids: Yes! He was eager to befriend the toddler he met. Sturdy, dog-saavy kiddos would be best as he does knock little ones over.
Dogs: It's complicated. He did well with dogs in his initial foster home, but has had some squabbles with the male dog in his current foster due to jealousy/sharing attention. We think he could do well with a female dog who is not as obsessed with human attention as he is. Ultimately, loves his people and attention so much, he is not happy about sharing it with another dog.
Cats: Sure!
Housetrained: Mostly, but remember he hates the cold and rain, and has been known to sneak some poops when no one is looking
Crate trained: Does best gated in a small area. If a crate is needed, he does best with plastic style.
Medical Note: Gandalf is an allergy dog and needs to be on a higher quality food and is currently taking apoquel daily.
Gandalf is neutered, vaccinated, heartworm negative, and microchipped. He is available for adoption to residents of CT and surrounding states. If you are interested in adopting, please complete an application from our website.
