Shelter FAQs

We are a town municipal shelter serving all hamlets throughout the Town of Islip. We have over 100 animals for adoption at any given time. You do not need to be an Islip resident to adopt from us.

Additional adoption info

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, our adoption procedures have changed.

Our new procedures are as follows:

First view our animals on our facebook page under photos, on Petfinder.com or Adopt-A-Pet.com. If you are interested in any of our animals, email us at animalshelter@islipny.gov and we will send you an application to complete. When you email the application back to us, please list the dog/dogs name and tag number.

Once the application is complete and we have all the proper paperwork, we will contact you to make an appointment to come see the animal. Appointments will be spread out so we don't have two families here at once. All introductions and meet-and-greets will be done outside.

We thank everyone for your patience, understanding, and support through this difficult time. Everyone stay safe and healthy!
....
In order to adopt an animal from us you must first meet the animal in person. Once that goes well, you will be required to fill out the application including personal information, current pet information, and vet information. We require you to do a "meet and greet" if you have other dogs, to ensure all dogs get along. Once approved, you can come pick up your pet!
Adoption Fees:
Cats - $100
Dogs - $131
Fees include the cost of spay or neuter surgery, micro-chip and vaccines.
