This helps Malinois and Dutch Shepherd Rescue, Inc. with pet care costs.
Trooper, a sweet and resilient 2 ½-year-old Belgian Malinois, has faced remarkable physical and emotional hurdles with bravery. When he first arrived at MAD in August 2023, he was in tough shape, suffering from three broken limbs—both hips and a shattered wrist—and open wounds. His journey to recovery has been complicated by severe kennel and separation anxiety, but Trooper has made amazing progress.
Following multiple surgeries, including Femoral Head Ostectomy (FHO) on both hips and a partial arthrodesis on his front left wrist, Trooper is adapting well. While high-energy sports aren’t in his future, he enjoys walks, outings, and playtime with his foster siblings—both human and canine. He loves a bit of tug-of-war and playing ball until he’s tired, showing his playful spirit.
Trooper has been working on building strength in his back legs and improving his public social skills. Though he can be protective and a bit jealous, he is learning to adjust to new friends with slow introductions. He’s very smart and knows several commands, including sit, place, come, leave it, back up, and wait. He’s even learned not to rush through an open door and has figured out how to open the door to let himself out!
Trooper would thrive with someone committed to continuing his rehabilitation to build his strength and confidence. Could you be the forever home Trooper is looking for? With your support, he’ll have the best chance at a healthy, happy life filled with love and companionship.
