My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet NACHO! He's a 4yr old Playgroup Rockstar! Nacho was very shutdown when he first arrived to the shelter, but has really come out of his shell with the help of new shelter friends!

Nacho was found as a stray in a school yard on 12/21. He was brought to safety by police who described him as friendly and nice!

Want to meet Nacho? Come to ACCT any day from 10am-6pm. He's also eligible for Foster - email Foster@ACCTPhilly.org

Nacho's ideal home would be without children younger than 12 due to his notable fearfulness when he arrived to the shelter.

NOTES from Shelter Friends --

Per Staff 12/26:
Nacho was standing at the front of his kennel giving me fast mid level wags and wiggling. He was patient and let me slip my leash on without issue. Nacho did great for check in! He was a bit nervous but approached both NAs with low wags and allowed all handling. He was a fan of cheese and we were able to get all his vaccines in without issue while he licked cheese off the door.

Per Staff 12/22 - Behavior Evaluation:
Nacho slowly walked around the eval room with a low tail, lowered body, and soft eyes. He would come and sniff us but avoid eye contact and shy away from pets. I did give him a brief scratch which he allowed and then he walked away. He would follow us when we walked around the room and was interested in what we were doing. He sniffed some treats but didn't end up taking them. He gave some low wags when I spoke to him in a baby voice and I gave him some scratches which he allowed. He also allowed petting from a new handler that entered the room, and stuck closeby to them. He's a shy boy but likes to just be nearby and know what's going on!

More about this shelter

The Animal Care & Control Team of Philadelphia (ACCT Philly) is the region’s largest animal care and control service provider. ACCT Philly is an independent, 501c3 nonprofit organization, contracted by the City of Philadelphia to provide animal control services. Our animal control officers provide service over 142.6 square miles to the city’s more than 1.5 million residents and ACCT Philly’s facility in North Philadelphia handles more than 17,000 of the city’s animals, from dogs and cats, to small animals, reptiles, birds and wildlife, annually.

In addition to animal control and sheltering, ACCT Philly is open 365 days a year for pet adoptions. ACCT Philly also supports a foster care program where community members provide temporary homes for sheltered animals and one of the (if not THE) most extensive rescue partnership program in the country where approved rescue partners accept ACCT Philly animals into their adoption programs. Under contract ACCT Philly’s Animal Control Officers provide animal control services and code enforcement. Other exciting ACCT Philly programs include a food pantry for low-income pet owners, a vibrant volunteer program, trap-neuter-return for community cats, a unique Pen Pal program to assist dogs at risk … and so much more!
