Butler is a big-hearted boy with an upside-down heart on his nose, perfectly matching his loving personality. This affectionate pup loves being around people and craves attention and cuddles. He’s very strong but listens well on walks, making him a joy to handle.
Butler knows “sit” and is treat-motivated, which will help make training a breeze. While he can be a little jumpy, it’s only because he’s eager for love and connection. After an active outing, he’s happy to snuggle up and show his softer side, complete with adorable snores.
Playful and sweet, Butler also enjoys squeaky toys and playtime. If you’re looking for a loving companion, Butler could be the pup for you!
Eligible for rescue, foster, and adoption. Meet Butler at ACCT Philly any day of the week from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., or email foster@acctphilly.org to express interest in fostering him.
Behavior notes:
Per weekend foster 1/26: He is a DELIGHT! We are very invested in making sure he finds a furever home.
Here’s what I learned:
1. He is PERFECT for someone who works at home and wants that extra bit of doggo love in their life.
2. He has bursts of playful energy, but on your time.
3. He loves the ladies!
4. He is snuggle bug, who doesn’t bark, and simply wants to be with you.
5. He deserves a loving home where he can nurture you as much as you do him!
He does pull on the leash, but not aggressively. He does react to other dogs, so that’s a consideration. He loves people. All of them. He is a snuggle bug immediately.
Per Volunteer 1/19/25: Butler greeted me with a loose body! He was barking at me as I took my leash out, but his tail was wagging and he remained loose, Just excited. He does pull moderately on leash so would recommend a harness. Such a cuddly boy! He came right to me for pets in the play yard and didn’t leave my side. He sat right in front of me and was very content being in my arms and getting pets. Such a well behaved boy!
01/14/2025 staff notes: Butler came out for activity time today. In the room, Butler was super wiggly and jumpy with everyone in the room. He was jumping all over the place and played with the handler, not showing interest in toys. He began getting very aroused the more people played with him and started getting mouthy. He does calm down and stop for a treat and when you tell him to sit.
01/13/2025 staff notes: Butler came out for activity time today. In kennel Butler had dilated eyes and was standing at the front. Once leashed he came right out and pulled heavily. In the room, Butler was his wild and jumpy self. He allowed all handling as usually and worked on some tricks. We went for walk and a run and he used up all his energy darting around the yard. He does calm down and laid down next to me.
01/12/2025 Per Day Trip: Took Butler out for a few hours on Sunday and he is an absolute dream! The second we walked outside his whole demeanor changed with tail wagging and excitement for the day. Though very strong, he listens well on walks so he’s easy to handle. He did get very excited when he spotted other dogs and you can tell he just wants to play. Post walk he showed me he knows the sit command and verrry treat motivated! He can be a little jumpy but I soon learned it’s because he just wants to be held and loved. On the drive back to ACCT his large head fell asleep right on my hand with very cute snores. He has a small upside down heart on his nose which suits him very well being the lover dog he is!

BEHAVIOR EVALUATION:
KNOWN HISTORY:
Owned, real name is Buster
KENNEL PRESENTATION:
Butler was on the backside of kennel for cleaning. He was sitting at the door and when the handler approached he had very wide and hard eyes and appeared nervous. He did not perk up when speaking to him in a baby voice. He sniffed the leash but remained in place with wide eyes. When the handler tried to leash him he darted away from it and tried to push out of kennel. It took a few attempts to leash him due to him dodging it and trying to push out but once leashed he exited without issue.
LEASH SKILLS:
Pulls strongly
HANDLING :
In the room Butler was very anxious but tried to seek out comfort from both handlers in the room. He was whining and panting and just wanted to be near us. He allowed all over handling and would give low wags when petting him or interacting with him at all. He would begin to jump at the handler anxiously when we stopped paying attention to him and can jump very high, but was easy to handle still. He took treats gently and showed knowledge of sit.
PLAY:
Engages in play, some mouthing and jumping
TOYS:
Interest in squeaky toys
