My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Midnight Sun is a sweet pup looking for a home where he can gain confidence and feel secure. Though he may feel a bit stressed in new situations, he’s friendly and quickly seeks out comfort from his people. He loves cuddling, sitting in laps, and all-over pets.

Midnight Sun is a fun guy who likes squeaky toys and enjoys playtime. He takes treats gently, though he’s still learning his tricks. With patient guidance and plenty of love, Midnight Sun is sure to learn and grow into a confident and happy pup. Could you be the one to give this sweet boy a loving home?

Eligible for rescue, foster, and adoption. Meet Midnight Sun at ACCT Philly any day of the week from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., or email foster@acctphilly.org to express interest in fostering him.

Behavior notes:
01/26/2025 volunteer notes: Here's some pictures of Midnight (the black dog - the tan one is Ghost, who Midnight shares a kennel with). Midnight was a super high energy, loving pup! He loved playing with Ghost and running around. He definitely seemed to follow Ghost's lead - when we separated them for pictures, he stood at the gate staring after Ghost and didn't show interest in treats or toys anymore, even though he had previously.

He was jumpy and curious, overall big goofy puppy energy! He took treats excitedly but gently, no snatching. He let me pet him all over (when he would stand still!) and was a very sweet, silly boy.01/25/2025 volunteer notes:
Took Ghost and Midnight Sun out with a new volunteer. Both very wiggly and loose when we greeted them! We separated them by closing the divider and tossing treats, with one of us at each door. They separated easily and were both very easy to leash. Both so playful! They were pretty jumpy and in your face in a very excited and affectionate way- they don’t seem to have been trained with the best manners but are sooo sweet! They reacted to dogs through the fence, both barking and lunging to another dog walking by. They took treats gently and didn’t seem to know commands. Took pets all over and were both very loose! Neither of them seemed to guard toys or food around each other. Lived with a cat. Both super jumpy on their humans and love getting love! Both had to be carried into the kennel as they both pancaked going back in. It seems Ghost (tan one) is the more confident of the two. We separated them for some solo time with each volunteer and ghost was confident and cuddly, while midnight was a little more shut down and not interested in treats when his friend wasn’t around. Such sweet boys!

01/25/2025 staff notes: A new volunteer took Midnight Sun out for during volunteer orientation. No issues leashing or walking through the kennels. However, MS began getting overaroused when he saw another dog outside: a bubbly husky on a walk. For the first minute, he focused his attention (posturing forward, ears up) but was able to be guided into the play yard where he lounged and sniffed around for a bit. The husky approached for sniffs from the other side of the fence, and MS again focused his attention and started getting reactive (high tail, hackles up, low growls and grumbly barks). Once the dog was out of sight, MS deescalated. On returning to kennel, he put the brakes on a couple times before reaching his kennel, at which point he sternly refused to reenter and we needed to loop his belly to get him in.

01/25/2025 staff notes: Was told by a volunteer that Midnight Sun had a bad fence meet with another dog. She was walking him by a yard where someone had a dog out, and at first she said that they were both wagging and play bowing at each other, but Midnight Sun began to escalate to growling, lunging, and even gator rolling. It may have been frustration or barrier reactivity, but the volunteer was so freaked out by his behavior that she took him back to kennel right away. He also got into a scuffle this morning, so he may just be having a rough day. Will evaluate further with a dog meet in the coming days.

01/25/2025 staff notes: Ghost and Midnight Sun got into a scuffle in kennel this morning. Neither were injured and they were separated quickly. We were able to find them separate kennels and would recommend keeping them separated despite their bond.

01/24/2025 staff notes: While Midnight Sun and Ghost do appear to be bonded, they also appear to be littermates. If adopted out together they run the risk of developing littermate syndrome, so I would recommend separating them. Although, they may both do best in a home with other dogs.

01/24/2025 staff notes:
KENNEL PRESENTATION:
Midnight Sun and Ghost are being housed in a kennel together at this time. They were already separated for feeding, so the handler grabbed Midnight Sun first. He was sitting on his bed panting with soft eyes. He stood up and gave some mid to low wags when the handler reached in with the leash. He was easy to leash and came right out.

LEASH SKILLS:
Pulls minimally but pancaked at times. Just needed baby talk to encourage him.

HANDLING :
In the room, Midnight Sun was stressed but very friendly and sweet. He liked to be in the handler’s lap and allowed all over pets and handling right away. The owners said that Midnight and Ghost are bonded and do everything together, so he was likely stressed due to being separated from his brother. He remained friendly and sought out lots of comfort. He took treats gently but didn’t seem to know any tricks. Overall, Midnight Sun is a sweet puppy that just needs to learn some confidence on his own!
