My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

*** Ozzie is at Petco Mira Mesa. ***

Brown/black tabby, short hair, neutered male, born approx. 1/24/21, #18867

Cats: solo or with slow intro
Dogs: does great
Children: savvy tweens+ welcome

BACKGROUND: One day, a nice young lady was walking in a park and out popped Ozzie to follow her home; when she opened her front door he waltzed right on in, too! While he was clearly working the angle of staying forever, other residents in the home were allergic to cats and it wasn’t feasible. She reached out to The Rescue House to ask if we could help Ozzie.

PERSONALITY: Is your New Year’s resolution to get up earlier and be more productive with your day? Ozzie can help you achieve that goal! This early bird greets each day rarin’ to go and ready to share it with his people… so up and at ‘em! Time for breakfast! Time for attention and kisses! Time for play and exercise! Time for cuddles! Ozzie may be a drill sergeant at times, impatient for you to follow his commands and desires, but there has never been a cuter one, nor one more dedicated to developing a deep loving bond with his people. He is a MAJOR lap cat, and as soon as you sit or lie down then Ozzie will sprawl out on top of you (add a heated blanket and some jazz music for him to meditate to – really! - and you won’t be moving anytime soon… the term Velcro Kitty could have been coined for him). Any friend of yours is a friend of Ozzie’s; this highly social extrovert has no concept of stranger danger and welcomes all visitors, including plumbers and other home maintenance guests. He is extremely intelligent as well as clever, quick to learn and able to figure out puzzles: he’ll watch and then copy your actions! Ozzie needs lots of enrichment and exercise to keep his brain busy and his energy expended (he excels at high jumps with a wand and loves a tall cat tree to climb); he wants to be entertained and he wants to be loved… and in Ozzie’s mind, a human is involved every step of the way.

COMPATIBILITY: Ozzie can live with other cats who don’t mind his over the top high energy so long as he gets a lengthy introduction period, though as a people-focused boy he isn’t dependent on having feline friends. He has been great with a large dog. Because Ozzie can sometimes get overstimulated, we recommend a home with cat-knowledgeable tweens and up. A savvy family with older kids who are dedicated to plenty of playtime would be right up Ozzie’s alley!
