Check out our sister brand, Kinship, for vet chat, a nutrition calculator, basic obedience training, and (much) more. So you're never flying solo in this pet parenting thing.
"Dogs offer one of the most stable and enduring friendships on earth." This reminds us of our dear Essie!
Why we love her: Essie was shy when she first came to us, and she truly inspires us by how she has blossomed, gained confidence, and enjoys the good doggy life she so very much deserves!
Precious Essie is two years old and weighs 40 pounds. She is so gentle and graceful and we love spending time with her. If you want to adopt a medium sized companion, Essie could be the one!
Essie spent some time in the home of one of our volunteers and was a cherished guest. She especially enjoyed the company of the other dogs in the household. Essie's foster Mom says she is a real sweetheart!
Essie enjoys walks and is such a well mannered companion. She also likes to run and play in the fenced yard at the shelter. Once she is done, she will sprawl on the ground or sit by your side and spend quality time with you. Essie has a serenity of spirit that makes her a joy to be around and a heart full of love she is ready to share with you!
Essie has so much fun in play groups with her fellow shelter companions and is an absolute star! She is so good with everyone and makes sure they are enjoying their time together. If you have another dog, we do require a meet and greet to ensure compatibility.
Essie is very bright and obedient and should master any commands you want to teach her.
Essie is always ready for quality cuddle time and has so much to give the family lucky enough to take her home! She is such a special dog!
We are so grateful to Carla Miles for her beautiful photos of our dogs and cats!

Cheatham County Animal Control is committed to finding good homes for the animals that come into the shelter system. We work with rescues and adopters. We are a no kill shelter but we rely on people coming in to adopt!
All of our cats/dogs receive vaccinations that are appropriate for the age and health when they are at animal control. We also spay and neuter all of our animals. The adopter is responsible for all vaccinations and medical care after adoption.
