Take the Pet Home
A sweet girl with love to share!
Meet Denali! Denali is in a foster home in Spokane, WA and can be transported to your area (see below in the “Adopting from Path of Hope Rescue” section). Why wait to meet your perfect companion? Our adult dogs are ready to bring love and joy into your life, and there is no better time than now. Give an adult dog a home, and you choose the minimum donation amount!
Born in 2016, sweet natured and goofy Denali gets along well with dogs and people (adults and children); she went on a weekend trip with her fosters and did really well being in a new place and around new people. Denali will happily join you for an explore or trot up to you for pets and ear rubs, and if you are occupied, she is also comfortable being on her own and can amuse herself. Denali, true to her nature inspired name, delights in spending time outdoors and enjoys sniffing and exploring. She acts like she is part bloodhound and part detective; she quickly finds the scent if a new animal has visited the yard. After losing one third of her body weight since returning to us, Denali joins in romps with the other dogs in her foster home and enjoys running and playing chase games with them. She bounds around the yard, stopping to encourage the resident dogs to join in her antics. Denali is always up for a ride in the car or a brisk walk with her people. Losing weight has made a huge difference in her quality of life.
How did she lose over a third of her body weight? Here’s Denali’s weight loss advice. Always wait to be petted before you eat; dance around when your meal is being prepared (burns calories and revs up your metabolism); pretend broccoli is really a cheat food; and have someone else portion out your meals!
Sometimes rescue can be a lot like climbing a mountain; you need to take a lot of switchbacks before you get to where you want to be. Lovely Denali is an example of this. After we rescued her and her pups from a shelter in Texas, the puppies quickly found new homes, and sweet, endearing Denali was adopted by an older couple. When a death and severe medical issues left her adopter unable to care for Denali, he returned her to us. She was seriously overweight and suffering from bladder stones, which were successfully removed in July. Her foster has been working diligently on her diet (hence the loss of 30 pounds!)
Denali’s ideal home? Denali is looking for someone to love and to love her in return, who will support her on her weight loss journey (her ideal weight is around 45 pounds, so another 10-15 pounds down). She will need to remain on prescription food for the rest of her life to prevent more bladder stones, and she may be prone to urinary tract infections, so an adopter will need to be watchful for these. Denali would love a walking partner and snuggle buddy and loving companion. Are you ready to reach new heights with Denali?
“Fur-st Impressions” are very important! Schedule a meet and greet with Denali before applying to see if she is the perfect fit for your family by emailing us at Fur-stImpressions@pathofhoperescue.com. A completed Adoption Application will be required after the meet and greet to move forward with Denali’s adoption.
